Came to Cochrane this weekend for a hockey tournament. Hopped online to search for the best Vietnamese in town. The place was hopping busy and I think they were short staffed but they still did a decent job in checking in on everyone and food came about 30 minutes after we arrived. Unfortunately they forgot to get my to go order ready (Banh Mi) but I still got to try vermicelli lemongrass beef with spring rolls and they special Thanh Thy stir fry. Now we loooooove Vietnamese food. Everything here was fresh and plentiful but it didn't leave any of really wanting to come back. The food was good but it's like it was missing that something extra to make it delicious. Maybe it's what we ordered and it's more of a pho speciality place? Anyhow, healthy fresh and gets the job done for fueling a hockey player. read more

Just happened to be in Cochrane and I wanted to go to my favorite PHO restaurant, Thanh Thy. The restaurant is always clean, bright and simple decor. The service is always very good - friendly, quick and always willing to answer any questions. The service is one of the things that impresses me the most. The shrimp salad rolls are smaller than I remember but still good. I ordered the Thanh Thy Special Pho. It was delicious. Canmore could use one of these restaurants. Cochrane has changed so much since I was here last. Now they have 3 Pho restaurants so I must try the other two. Ext time I am in Cochrane. Overall, very good. read more

The worst customer service! My husband went into order for our kids today and asked nicely if they could separate one meal into two containers. Happy to pay for the cost of the container. It wasn't busy. They said no, then rudely told him if he wanted kids meals to order off of the kids menu. The kids vermicelli bowl is almost the same price as an adult bowl but way smaller. He could have walked out but the kids had their heart set on Vietnamese food. This isn't the first time we've had terrible service here but decided to give them another shot because we like to support local. Never again read more

Food is good - I go for the Pho soup and it is very authentic. The restaurant is well located and has ample room. However, I have had to stop going because it suffers from the same ailment as many Vitenamese restaurants I have been to - after 45 minutes in the dining room, your clothes smell oily like the kitchen. Ordered food for take out. Messaged the restaurant after finding a long black strand of hair in my soup all tangled up in the bean sprouts when I was halfway done. Advised them that if their cooks were not wearing hairnets, that it would be a good idea to do so as it is obviously falling in the food. No reply and no acknowledgement that they will be stricter with their food preparation. I was not looking for any compensation or refund whatsoever, just an apology that this unfortunate situation happened. On a public holiday at 4pm we took a seat in this restaurant. We chose a two person menu for $30 which comes with an appetizer, a soup to share and two main dishes to chose from. The serving size is good and our selection was delicious. The only regret we had was our choice of beverages: we each had a fresh fruit shake - mango and strawberry. Both of them were very sweet and tasted artificial. Overall a great experience and a place to recommend to friends. read more

Why can't I find great Vietnamese food like Thanh Thy in the Crowfoot area? This is an authentic Vietnamese restaurant, located on the corner of 5 Avenue and 1 Street. There is ample parking at the back of the Pioneer Plaza or on-street parking if you can find any. The restaurant was semi-full when we arrived a little after 12 noon on a holiday Monday. They have booths for a max. of 4 people and tables in the middle of the room. They charge for tea here, though, so be aware of that. We ordered an appy: no. 19 Sugar Cane in Grilled Shrimp Sausage - there is stick of sugar cane in the middle of this wonderful shrimp sausage. Fish sauce dipping sauce was provided. Be careful that you eat around the sugar cane that is embedded in the middle. Really good and piping hot!! For our meals, we ordered: No. 33 Special Thanh Thy Rice Vermicelli - huge bowl full of vermicelli, ground peanuts, shredded carrots, lettuce and cucumber with satay beef, satay chicken and grilled shrimp. The fish sauce was pretty good. I found it needed more spice so I added more chili sauce into the bun. Good for when you're starving! No. 45 Rare Done Beef and Brisket Noodle Soup - Good beef broth, lots of beef and brisket. Comes with fresh bean sprouts, mint leaves and a tiny fresh red hot pepper. Beware of this lil' pepper 'cos it packs a punch! Just break it into 2 and put it in your soup to spice it up. Good size portion. No. 61 - Curry Chicken on Steamed Rice - Very good curry chicken with lots of chunky onions, green and red peppers. The curry was quite tasty and smells delicious. It is a farily big portion as well. No. 64 - Thanh Thy Fried Rice - comes with Shrimp, Chicken, Fried Egg and Vegetables - Really, really tasty fried rice and I've eaten a lot of fried rice, trust me! This one is so good that with each mouthful, you want to eat more! Very nicely seasoned fried rice. Service was not too bad. They got really, really busy after we arrived. But the 2 guy waiters were on the ball and kept the orders flowing. Will come back if I'm ever in Cochrane again. read more

I had a lemongrass beef vermicelli bowl and the beef was just OK. Not too tender, a bit dry, and mixed with only a few onions. We stumbled onto this restaurant after finding out our usual pho haunt was closed on Sundays. First of all - I liked the fact the restaurant is super clean - from tables to the menus. Nothing grosser than a dirty menu. I ordered bun with spicy chicken and spring rolls. My bf ordered the same but with grilled pork. I thought the pork was the best of the two meats. Good quality chicken/pork, assortment of the usual carrots, sprouts and ground peanuts. The fish sauce was a bit sweet - you only need half the amount you are given. What we both loved about Thanh Thy were the noodles. Normally a bit clumpy and sticky (even at my favourite pho haunts) each noodle was bouncy and separate from each other. I asked the server if they do anything differently (I was thinking they used a higher quality noodle), but nope - he said it was how the noodles were prepared in the cooking process. read more

This Vietnamese place is not bad. My fiance is an avid pho lover, hence the visit. But he ended up not getting pho - he got the vermicelli bowl weekday special that came with a spring roll and a drink. I got the rare beef pho. They put a nice portion of meat, which is a nice plus since some restaurants are stingy with meats. I would have to say that I enjoyed my dish more than his. We enjoyed our meals, but we've definitely had better before. read more

I went with a colleague for dinner, the restaurant was half full, we waited while servers bustled around making no eye contact and finally we were led to a booth. The table had food and some sauce on it, a server did a poor job wiping the table, as it was sticking to our forearms. We cleaned it ourselves and then finally were able to order. The food was dropped off and I had a spicy noodle dish which was terrible, dry, the prawns and chicken in it were dry and overcooked, the rolls were poor quality. We asked for the server and their attitude was poor, so we let without further discussion. There are good choices all around this restaurant. It was easy to move on. read more

Asian cuisine is a personal favourite of mine. Having traveled to & sampled local foods in Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam, I feel at least somewhat qualified in being able to say: Yep, the food here is pretty damn authentic. For our meal, we had & shared the fried squid, a rice vermicelli bowl with spring rolls, pork & shrimp, and pineapple beef with rice. Everything that was fried didn't taste greasy, and all of the vegetables they used tasted fresh. The spring rolls were legitimately fantastic, and they cook their meats extremely well. I didn't have to add seasoning to anything (though I used all of the fish sauce for the vermicelli, it was astounding). The environment was very nice, as well. The staff was very friendly, and all of the other patrons seemed to be enjoying themselves. The place was clean, and seemed very well maintained. Rather than ramble on, I'll leave this review here - Thanh Thy is great, and I 100% recommend checking it out! I will definitely be returning. read more

Just had the #30 at Thanh Thy in Cochrane. And let me tell you it was absolutely delicious. Very clean restaurant and very friendly staff. The food took about all of 5-10 minutes to come out of the kitchen and it was delicious. Would definitely eat here again and will be recommending to friends. read more

Ordered a couple of vermicelli dishes for take out last week. The spring rolls were ok, but packed in with the rest of the food so they were soggy. The rest of the food was very bland and and the meat was just not cooked properly for the style of cuisine (tasted like they just steamed it maybe?). Almost every Vietnamese place in Calgary that I have been to has been much better. If you want to see the cuisine done right, head to Pho Huong Viet in the Crowfoot/Ranchlands area of NW Calgary. read more

After my day trip to Ghost Lake, we were hungry and found a small restaurant open on sundays (most of the place were closed in cochrane). The food was good, we had springrolls , curry beef and lemon grass chicken stir fry. It was so tasty, and the protion was huge. we didnt even finished and had to pack it all up. The service was great for how busy the place was, however the only concern was the parking cause the parking lot was full so we had to park down the road a bit. Overall i give the restaurant a 9/10 stars. Tasty dishes, amazing service and relaxing environment. read more

We were visiting Cochrane and decided to check out this restaurant. Service was friendly and helpful. Very clean and very good food. We ordered shrimp salad rolls with mint wrapped in. This is a special request. Very good. #54 - a chicken curry soup. Lots of flavour and good chunks of chicken. Very thin noodles. I personally prefer thicker ones which I will ask for in future. #33B - the Ultimate Bun which has some of everything. This was very good and not too much vermacelli.
