Happen to notice this place as we were walking down the street. It has beads in the front doorway like it's a mid-19th century opium den. Noticed there was banh mi on the menu so in we went. The inside was cheery and comfortable. Our two banh mi sandwiches, tofu and pork, were very tasty but the veggies weren't pickled, and, to me, it's not a banh mi without pickled veggies. But I was impressed with the delicious random Vietnamese sandwiches we had. The fresh salad veggie rolls were leviathan in size and savoriness. The accompanying peanut sauce was perfect. The server was super friendly. As was the order taker, though she was more business like friendly, like she wasn't prepared to suffer fools easily. I'd go back anytime for those sandwiches. First impression: guy at the counter was nice and answered all our questions... but since we ordered at the counter and he said he would bring out our food, I tipped. Midway through our meal, I noticed he didn't bring us any water or offer us any water. If you need a break from Western food on Banff Ave, would recommend this as a quick , casual meal. I got the rare beef pho (Pho Tai), and the soup and beef texture was good-thinly sliced. But I feel the noodles were too thick. I wished I'd gotten the vege spring rolls vs the pork ones (didn't have enough veges). Overalll a great casual stop. Decided to bring the New Year in with Pho at my favorite place in Banff - Peak Cafe. The food is always delicious and generous. I had my traditional Rare Beef Pho and Shrimp Salad Rolls. This restaurant is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in the Bow Valley. Always clean and reasonably priced given the fact it is located in Banff. Always get table service and although the walls are plainly decorated it has a very nice layout and feel. Much like Vietnamese restaurants in Vietnam. A definite must if you like Vietnamese. Tried some pho and banh mi. The pho was average-it was nice to have some Asian food. The soup was hot and wasn't overly salty. The banh mi was okay- definitely not the best put together banh mi. Peak cafe is good if you are feeling a bit of Vietnamese food however it isn't authentic. It caters to the tourist hence the name and this can also be seen as the menu offers pancakes. Vietnamese with a twist of western. Their subs (Banh Mis) are good and offer the same toppings as an authentic one. The Vietnamese coffee is good but isn't as strong as an authentic one. Not the greatest but also not the worst. Ordered the pho with beef, meatball and tripe. The broth is on the lighter side and the portion is normal. It was a good bowl for being located in a tourist hotspot. Your greens are already included in the bowl. Our basil leaves were old and we had to pull them out. We were starving after a long day of sightseeing and came across Peak Cafe, which offers very reasonably late hours for the town. We came in a few minutes before closing and they were gracious enough to seat us and feed us! Thank you for the excellent service. The food was great, but this is probably what lost the star for us. We ordered smoothies, bobas, banh mi sandwiches, some chicken dishes, and the summer rolls. I think you can skip the summer rolls entirely and expect the boba to be chewier than other places. However the banh mi sandwiches and the chicken dishes were the star of the show! Definitely redeemed the whole experience. We were in Banff for the weekend with our German car club and happened on the Peak Café. In the mood for Vietnamese, we decided to try this place as opposed to the Vietnamese restaurant just a few blocks north up the street which was more central to the larger crowds wandering about Banff Avenue as the other restaurant had less than positive reviews. At the time that we went (late afternoon), the restaurant was empty, and some staff were just dismantling the outdoor tables with the cooler air settling in. My wife and I opted for the Lemongrass Chicken Rice Vermicelli Bowl and were offered the choice of 2 sauces, peanut sauce and fish sauce. We decided on one of each. The bowls arrived at our table and looked fresh, with reasonable portions of vegetables and chicken pieces, as well as 2 pork spring rolls. As we had previously asked about the spiciness of the Lemongrass chicken, the Satay, and the Curry, the hostess also brought a container of chili oil with the peanut and fish sauce without us having to ask. Other sauces available at the table were the standard hoisin and Sriracha. We had just enough of the sauces to share and I suspect we would have been provided with more if requested. The spring rolls were crisp and tasty and the pieces of chicken were good, though we both thought they could have benefitted from a stronger lemongrass flavour, and the peanuts in the description could have been more plentiful. Still good however and this satisfied our craving for Vietnamese cuisine at a reasonable price. Had we been in town a few days longer, we would have tried the pho and maybe a few other items on the fairly extensive menu. This place was not on Yelp when I was browsing. Ended up at this place when we were taking a stroll along Banff ave. We were actually looking for viet coffee to take home for a hike the next morning. We stopped by for a late lunch after hiking along the Bow River trails. There are plenty of seatings but the tables are rather small. We order beef noodles with soy egg and beef noodles and ball, as well as beef pho. The beef noodles with egg came out without the soy egg, and the meat balls in the beef noodles and ball was not hot and not flavorful. Some part of the noodles were stuck together and not fully loose. The pho was average. The soup of the noodles are not hot enough. Overall not a good dinning experience. It's pricy for the poor quality. If you are looking for a nice bowl of noodles this is not the place and there are other alternatives of Asian foods on Banff Ave. read more

I really hate writing bad reviews but we picked this place as our last meal of the trip because it had good reviews. We ordered no.19 ($16) pho with beef + ball + tripe and no.41 ($16) grilled pork rice vermicelli bowl. I can't believe how disappointed I am with their food. I've never walked out of a place without finishing food (until today) but I really couldn't eat anymore of it. The vermicelli was overly soft, same with the pho noodles. The pork was over cooked, dry and too salty. The beef in the pho was grainy and the texture was just off. The pho soup tasted more like chicken soup with MSG. The basil was already browning, they served us hoisin sauce instead of fish sauce for the pork vermicelli which made it too salty and the spring rolls were technically just Chinese style spring rolls. We asked for two small bowls that never came. I can manage the lack of service but the food was actually much worse. Sigh. read more
