I will start by saying that we are frequent Salt Lake City bed and breakfast visitors. We like to get away and relax for an overnight. We like interesting and historic homes. The Hansen House exceeded our expectations on every metric. The location is in the old downtown area of Sandy, east of State Street. It is situated on a large, mature property with lots of huge trees, and a nice yard. When one enters the house itself, one is immediately made to feel at home. The house is filled with gorgeous antiques, lots of small artifacts. In other words there is detail. We stayed in the Victorian room, since we enjoy the feeling of being in a previous era. The bed was very, very comfortable, the hot tub amazing. We cannot praise Fran's establishment enough. It is our favorite B&B in Utah. We look forward to our next visit. read more

This bnb has raving reviews which is why I was even more upset with our experience because we booked from the 4 & 5 star reviews. This is far from a 5 star bnb. It's absolutely a -1 star for cleanliness. The owner was very kind and welcoming to us but definitely wanted to talk a lot... like knocked on our door 4 times to chat even though she knew we were exhausted. We booked the blue room which looked incredible online -- it was far from it. It was extremely dirty. There was dust on everything, the bathroom towels were hard... like crusty and hard. Now let's talk about the bed. Fran said she'd had the bed for 50 years and good lord it looked it. The converter had questionable stains all over it when you pulled it back.. the sheets had grass and who knows what else on them... Some sketchy white crusty stains. We were actually going to sleep on top of the bed until we realized we paid $215 for this room and needed to just request a refund and leave. Fran seemed horrified when we told her about how dirty her bnb was (we said it in a very kind way. She truly is a sweet lady). We showed her the stains but she ignored those comments and just said she hung the flannel sheets out to dry and that's how grass got on them... She did offer us a different room but we were kinda over the constant badgering and not even being able to eat in our room we paid $215 for so we left. She did give us a full refund, which we were happy about. Come to find out she actually charged us twice and we had to contact our CC company to get them both reversed. Unfortunately, I think the owners are overwhelmed and don't quite know how to clean properly. Definitely don't fall for the pretty photos and interesting history and book a room. Just show up and ask for a tour or something. I'm sure she'd give one. read more

I just want people to know what they're getting into here. The B&B is actually across the other side of the property for several of the rooms, including the Paul Bunyan room we stayed in. It is a bit of a walk, but not too far. It is now run by an elderly woman, lovely lady really. However, in my opinion, she needs more help to run it. I've seen B&B's like this before where one of the owners pass away and the surviving spouse attempts to keep it afloat for whatever reason, perhaps they need the money. In this case it seems she needs the social interaction. The Bunyan room was dark, and in June still had heavy flannel sheets on it. I can't say they were dirty, but I can't say they'd been changed recently either. Although the temperatur ws not that hot, we ran the window air conditioner all night because of the sheets. The house where we stay had an entry where you do down into it a bit and you find yourself in an area with a couch, table, and small kitchen. It was handy with a sink, small fridge, and coffee maker. Breakfast was elegant at the main house dining table with Victorian china. She was very kind and talkative, which I like. We were able to schedule the time at our convenience, and tell her what we wanted which was simply bacon and eggs. They were good. The room rate was reasonable, and I hope she uses her room income to get help with cleaning the place and grounds. Many of these B&B's have carpet in the rooms that I'd rather not have any contact with. read more

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and had such a wonderful time! The house is gorgeous and well-kept. Our room was beautiful and the bed very comfortable. The jetted tub was wonderful and had more than enough room for both of us! Breakfast in the morning was delicious and hand-made. The owner sat with us and told us all about the history of the house, which made our experience that much better. We loved that it was located in a cute little neighborhood and really appreciated all the care that had been put into the place. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone for a romantic getaway or even just a night away! read more

We enjoyed the breakfast (including a brief history lesson) and the large tub, however, those were the highlights of our one night stay. We stayed in the middle of winter (December 2016), and the steps leading to the entrance were quite icy, our room (Wine and Gold) was not clean (including having old loofas in the tub area and a stained pair of sweatpants in the bathroom), the fleece sheets on the bed were not comfortable, and the room and house seemed a bit cluttered. We were excited to stay here after reading so many great reviews but we were sadly disappointed. read more

Lovely! We had a fantastic stay at this bed-and-breakfast. Comfortable bed , beautiful jetted tub and the entire house is decorated and full of history. The woman running the whole house herself, Francis, is incredibly hospitable and very kind. Breakfast was delicious and the state was comfortable. This bed-and-breakfast house is 135 years old. It was amazing that she spent the time to tell us about the history and invite her into this beautiful home that she used to share with her husband. Very cozy and beautiful antique decorated rooms. We stayed in the wine and gold room and we're very happy. We did get to peek into an open door room that was not occupied which was the blue room. Big beautiful bed and gorgeous jetted tub. For as long as this house has been alive it has been very well cared for and you can tell how special it is to the owner. If you were looking for a cozy and quaint little place to stay this is the place!Would definitely recommend! read more

My boyfriend and I spent 2 nights in the Blue Lagoon Room and it was beautiful. Traveling from Los Angeles we were so impressed and in awe with how beautiful the house was. We loved everything. All the rooms have such stunning decor. We were greeted upon arrival and shown to our room. The bed was a dream and very comfortable. The tub was fantastic. Mrs. Hansen was the best. She suggested good vintage and antique places for us. And she also shared the history of the house which is very interesting. But the best part of everything was the breakfast. It was so extremely delicious. I wish I could of fit more in. Everything from the coffe to the hot chocolate and the food was beyond delicious. Over all a unforgettable stay. It really made our trip. We walked the property and it was such a cute set up. Mrs. Hansen was wonderful and did her best to make us feel at home. Hope to be back soon. read more

We have stayed at the Hansen House for two of our anniversaries. The house itself is thoughtfully decorated, and very clean. The garden is beautiful. Each of the rooms has its own large jacuzzi tub and is very cozy and comfortable. The prices are also the best you'll find in the valley. Such a great value. Mrs. Hansen asks what time you want breakfast prepared and is quite a cook. (Delicious thing to look forward to in the morning, tasty and different every time!) She is professional, accommodating, and very kind. She has a quick story of the history of the house prepared for guests which is interesting. If you like bed and breakfasts with a romantic feel, it doesn't get better! read more

The Hansen House is a hidden gem. My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and we absolutely loved it. Fran is the sweetest lady and an excellent cook. She talked with us at breakfast and told us about the history of the house. She made sure we were always comfortable. We stayed in the Blue Lagoon room, which is themed like a Titanic stateroom. The jetted tub and big round bed were amazing. The room was quiet and we didn't hear any other guests. We had a great time.10/10 Would visit again. read more

To be honest, I have hesitated leaving a public review of The Hansen House for fear that a rave review would drive THOUSANDS of people to make reservations...resulting in it being more difficult for us to make future reservations. This place is incredible. I'm a little baffled by some of the other reviews that were less than satisfactory. I have never had a more perfect and enchanting experience at a bed and breakfast. The home is so beautiful. The energy inside is so positive and rich with history. We have stayed in the Wine and Gold Room as well as the Blue Lagoon. My personal favorite is the Wine and Gold, but BOTH rooms are absolutely exquisite. My husband and I enjoyed hours of quality time visiting in her beautiful gardens. Fran, the owner of The Hansen House is not only a delight to be around, she is the ULTIMATE hostess. Her breakfasts are...WOW. There aren't words. I have never eaten so well. Overall, every time we have ever visited The Hansen House, we have left relaxed, well-fed and so very happy. I simply can't imagine staying anywhere else now that we've discovered this place. read more

We spent several nights upstairs in the main house. We were delighted upon our arrival to find the home in a quiet setting yet convenient to highways. We were impressed with its almost museum-like interior, full of beautiful antiques in a gorgeous Victorian home, although the interior had dark and heavy woodwork and furnishings. The owner/innkeeper, though very nice, seemed disorganized to the point of seeming confused at times. Our room was dark due to being poorly lit. The carpet was dingy and dirty. The only clean things in the room appeared to be fresh sheets and towels. The room was never serviced. The bed went unmade, no clean towels, even toilet paper was not restocked. We were nervous to leave valuables in the room since there was no door lock to the room and the house was always unlocked. Generally the breakfast food was quite good, although some items were sporadic. The first morning the only beverage was water which I commented about. I purchased my own citrus juice, which I kept in a cooler since there were no refrigerator provisions. Subsequent mornings there was juice available. Coffee was not permitted upon rising in the morning, rather only at breakfast. The last morning of our stay the fuse to the kitchen had blown during breakfast preparation. This seemed typical for a home that no longer appeared to be well maintained. It's sad that a B&B with such great potential did not live up to it. We've stayed at hundreds of B&Bs across the country. A Utah B&B that truly succeeds and is quite similar to the Hanson House is the Purple Sage Inn located in Kanab, Utah. A historic home by awesome innkeepers who really understand every aspect of the hospitality business - regrettably something not found in the Hansen House. And unfortunately, when in the area again, we will not return to the Hansen House. We did not find that the mediocre service, lack of cleanliness and maintenance made up for the extraordinarily beautiful B&B in a quiet and convenient location. read more
