a menu on a table

Giving this place three stars for being just an average restaurant. Our dinner appointment was for 6:15pm and we showed up 5 minutes early. We sat at the bar for a drink. After 10 minutes with no service we asked the hostess to seat us. It took us almost 20 minutes for us to get our first drink. Our waitress was nice and paid us good attention once dinner started. Portion size of food was large and tasted really good! I would come back again.

The level of service received from the dirty bearded youngster in contrast to the pricing in a rural area was lackluster. I do have to mention our bartender Dani was fantastic and extra quick serving drinks while we waited for our table. Great vibes, hire better, experienced servers.

4 stars overall: 5 stars for the bar and 3 for the restaurant. They make very good Old Fashioneds here, maybe the best ever. We had them with Wollersheim Rye instead of with the state liquor, brandy, and they were great! They have a special way of letting them sit, so that maybe they're more watered down or the flavors are more infused or something beyond my wannabe knowledge... whatever it is, it works. Bartenders are very friendly and prompt. The food was a mixed bag: the flaming cheese appetizer is delicious and a nice spectacle. The Asian style pasta was a miss, though: pasta in a sweet and spicy sauce (Firecracker), reminiscent of corn syrup, if corn syrup were spicy. There weren't too many vegetarian options, but that wasn't too surprising for a supper club, however. Make sure that you have a reservation, otherwise you might be turned away at their discretion. The couple in front of us who didn't have one were sent away, even we noticed at the bar that there were open tables while we were waiting for them to set up for our reservation (which they delayed or maybe forgot about, grumble). I would return to the bar, but I'd have second thoughts about dining there again.

We love this place. Good food with large portions and good prices. The bar is great. Delicious mai tai's and fun atmosphere. Upper patio with a lake view, great for having a drink before your table is ready.

However, I LOVED their ravioli and cavatelli as a kid. Their sauce is absolutely perfect--I wish I could recreate it. When I go now, I take my cooked GF pasta, and they serve it up with their sauce and a side of sausage--which is to die for. This place is a little hidden gem. If you're in the area, make sure to stop in. You won't be disappointed. I am going to nominate it for Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I would love to see this small town standby on the Food Network!

The Italian culture shines through as you can order just about any type of pasta here but the staple items tend to be ravioli and cavatille. The sausage is 100% made in house but many believe it comes from Louie's Meats, which is not true. Normally, I'd get a meatball with my pasta but not here. Sausage all the time! Many of the meals are served with a side salad and a basket of breadsticks for the entire table. Recently under new ownership, there has been a slight uptick in menu options and Bona Casa now carries pesto sauce (which previously never existed) along with a facelift of decor. The staff here works extremely hard for their customers. If you're in the area, swing by! They still have their frozen options, take outs and classic pizzelles.

The sandwich was good, but there was no garnish. The sandwich was pressed with lots of meat. You'd think they could add a bit of lettuce or something to not make it look so sparse. The Pot Roast Burger (dang that sounds tasty), Baonator BLT (oh, man, I love lots of bacon on a BLT!), Louies Italian Roast Beef (yum, served on a garlic butter hoagie bun) or one of their amazing Paninis? How to choose? We decided on the Italian roast beef, and it was great. I'm going to admit I have a problem with lunch places, especially when I come after the noon rush because so many times the French fries are sad, barely warm wilted fries and the hot sandwich isn't much better. Let me tell you right now that Louies makes sure the hot sandwiches are steaming hot and the fries are crispy and right out of the fries. I was in lunch heaven! Just know all the restaurant meat comes from their own butcher shop right down the street, Louie's Finer Meats, another must stop when in town. Both places will bring joy to your taste buds!

We did t really feel like we were all the welcome and the service was a little on the slow side. But the food way then made up for it. Appetizers: Bruschetta - excellent. Spinach Artichoke Dip - the best I can remember having anywhere. Garlic bread - very good and cheesey but could have used some more garlic. Caprici salad- wasn't on the menu and the were out of fresh basil but still very good. Pizza Fries - it was a small pizza with sauce on the side. All plates were huge and way to much before the enters. There were 7 of us and we had 5 different pastas and a cheese pizza. No one even came close to finishing their order and we took him 6 boxes and a whole small pie. The food was all very good. Much better then I was expecting really. It's that book and cover thing. Things to get: -Focaccia- I always love the focaccia and think it plus the red sauce are worth ordering. -Burnt carrots- The burnt carrots were an unexpected surprise that I would definitely recommend. Fun flavors -Pretty much any pasta: casarecce, paccheri, spaghetti Nero. All so unique and delicious in their own ways. Up to you: -Brussels sprouts-still good, just preferred the carrots -Desserts: I preferred the ice cream to the cake. The cake was a bit too dense for my liking but others in my party liked it.

When we arrived we were seated quickly at a nice table in a themed Italian space. We had the Calamari, an the Escargot. And finished with a piece of their homemade Tiramisu. All were very tasty: Calamari was a crispy, well flavored rings (darn I like the little squid) with a good sauce. The Escargot were plump and the garlic butter they came with was delicious, used the bread (very nice Baguette) to sop it up an hold an Escargot! The waiter and bus staff were great at getting our requests and being prompt with everything. The food was great & good. All of the food was served fresh and hot as it should be. They have a great house Chianti that is reasonably priced by the bottle. The filet special was out of this world awesome. Cooked perfectly medium rare, the cut was top shelf and flavor was incredible. The whole dish was excellent with the mushroom red wine reduction on top providing that blast of flavors that complemented a filet. I may get this every time if they continue to have it on the menu. The fettuccine alfredo was good. The pasta was home-made and cooked perfectly. The sauce was a bit bland and was missing something. Maybe some more parmesan, maybe just salt, not sure but while it was good, it lacked the big creamy flavor that alfredo should have. Chicken was very good, grilled and tender. So this one was "Good" The seafood special was another "Good" one. The shirimp was done perfectly but the rest of the seafood was maybe just a touch overcooked. The sauce was a cream sauce but like the alfredo it lacked just a bit of flavor that would have made it a superb meal. Many guests will love that we have a very good Italian place again in North Hudson as it's part of the heritage of the community. We will go back for sure!! CM
