Loud. Crowded. We had a party of five and they seated us at a four top with a little table tacked on the end where the fifth member of our group could hear nothing. Giving this place three stars for being just an average restaurant. Our dinner appointment was for 6:15pm and we showed up 5 minutes early. We sat at the bar for a drink. After 10 minutes with no service we asked the hostess to seat us. It took us almost 20 minutes for us to get our first drink. Our waitress was nice and paid us good attention once dinner started. 4 stars overall: 5 stars for the bar and 3 for the restaurant. They make very good Old Fashioneds here, maybe the best ever. We had them with Wollersheim Rye instead of with the state liquor, brandy, and they were great! They have a special way of letting them sit, so that maybe they're more watered down or the flavors are more infused or something beyond my wannabe knowledge... whatever it is, it works. Bartenders are very friendly and prompt. The food was a mixed bag: the flaming cheese appetizer is delicious and a nice spectacle. The Asian style pasta was a miss, though: pasta in a sweet and spicy sauce (Firecracker), reminiscent of corn syrup, if corn syrup were spicy. There weren't too many vegetarian options, but that wasn't too surprising for a supper club, however. Make sure that you have a reservation, otherwise you might be turned away at their discretion. The couple in front of us who didn't have one were sent away, even we noticed at the bar that there were open tables while we were waiting for them to set up for our reservation (which they delayed or maybe forgot about, grumble). I would return to the bar, but I'd have second thoughts about dining there again. read more

Loved this place. I was on business trip and was looking for a good food in the area that 5-8 min away from the hotel. Decided to come here and OMG - it is a gem in the middle of nowhere. Nice holiday decorations, warm atmosphere. I had French onion soup and ribs with au gratin potatoes. Ribs were soft and delicious. Potatoes - interesting shape of cutting and a lot of the cream, but ok. I decided to try cheese curds - a little bit too greasy for me, you could taste the oil refried too many times, but probably with beer would be ok. Oh, I got the scallops - they were ok, but not crispy on the outside. Overall, I would recommend this place. They had a nice bar as well. read more

If you are looking to work at this establishment, please save yourself the time and apply anywhere else. This establishment is built off of coworkers who talk behind your back, do not want to see you succeed, and are very greedy with tables. The disbursement of tables is so unfair, the head waitress would be making 200+ dollars while newer employees were barely taking home 60 dollars some nights. The "boss" in this establishment has no backbone, will not stand up for new employees that are being treated with such disrespect to the point of tears! Also, standing up for yourself in those situations will get you nowhere but being labeled "bringing drama into the workplace". It blows my mind how they have employees because of the horrible treatment of staff. As a waitress in this work environment, it is nothing but tension. Each night you don't know whether the atmosphere will be inviting or make you dread your next shift even more. Good work is not applauded or appreciated, mistakes are the only thing any coworker or manager see. It is the most twisted, mean, and pathetic work environment I've ever experienced. read more

Really wanted to like this place. Meals came. Mine was not what I ordered. The server argued that it was. I hate Alfredo, why would I order it. I ate it. The "large shrimp" were quite small. My husbands "medium rare" steak was shoe leather. Asked for a new one. The hostess did agree it was overdone, I'll give her that. The crab stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon were the fake imitation crab. Finally when we asked for the bill we got someone else's bill. Collectively, too many mistakes to consider a second chance. Went to the "5" with a group of friends for a holiday dinner. Some had been there before with varying results. Anyway, here goes: the good: excellent service, we had two servers taking care of us, both efficient and friendly. Salads, bread and soups were very good. All made in house we were told. Cocktails, wine and other drinks were very good and reasonably priced. Ok, the not so good: baked potatoes were not fully cooked, but they were replaced quickly, I had a steak and shrimp combo, the steak was cooked perfectly and properly seasoned. But was tougher than it should have been. My shrimp were overlooked and dry and anything but "jumbo. Everyone that had shrimp had that same comment. My wife and I moved to the area recently from Portland, Oregon after visiting our cabin here each summer for the past 30 years. We're originally from Chicago, so we've had the opportunity to eat at some of the best restaurants there are. We've eaten at The 5 O'clock Club numerous times over the years and can say we've never had a bad meal; if fact, I would say the quality of the service and food is outstanding and some of the best we've had. Where Kry R.'s comments came from is beyond explanation, and criticizing the building where the restaurant is located is just ridiculous. I suggest Krys visit Florence, Italy or Brussels, Belgium where it's common for five-star restaurants to be housed in a similar manner or worse, according to her elitist standards. I am usually pretty critical of restaurant food as my wife and I make so many good meals at home that are better. But when we do want to eat out, the 5 o'clock club is our place to go. I like the sailor of the sea decor, the great service, but the food is the best in Northwestern Wisconsin. I like everything but am not usually able to withstand not ordering the stuffed shrimp roast with an alfredo pasta side, bake potato. The sauce on the stuffed roasts make it so tantalizing. Don't try to eat it all, it's too rich. But it will still be great the next day. read more

We have been here several times. Only twice have we had good food. Unfortunately, last night was again one of the bad nights, and sadly it will now be the last night. Summary of our food: I had the steak and lobster $44. The lobster was so salty, it was inedible. Even my husband (who is very forgiving of all food:), could not eat it. I sent it back. Fifteen minutes later (we had completed our dinner by then), I received a new lobster....again, salty to the point of inedible. I did not eat it and was given a $20 credit on my bill. As far as my steak, it was dry, tough and overdone. It was also supposed to be about 6 -7 ounches, except it was only 3 ounces at best. My husband ordered the 'triple something' entree. It consisted of dry, tasteless chicken tenders, a small half rack of ribs that were pretty good, and boiled, tasteless (here they forgot the salt) shrimp. The shrimp were billed as "Jumbo & Broiled." Not so much. Much of the lettuce in my salad was turning brown. My au gratin potatoes were very bland and dry. The french onion soup did not taste homemade and was watery. However, my husband loved his clam chowder. It was our 35th wedding anniversary, and they said we were going to get a free dessert. I'm sure it was supposed to be a mousse, but rather it tasted and looked like whipping cream with chocolate powder. In an effort to re-do our anniversary evening, we went to Porterhouse Seafood & Steak in Little Canada, MN the next evening. I had steak and lobster again. This time the steak was a tender, juicy filet mignon at a full 7 ounces, and my lobster was twice the size as what I received at 5 O'clock. Not to mention all of the sides were absolutely fresh and delicious. My meal there was $45.00. So for a dollar more I got twice the quantity and 100 times the quality. Both were order medium-rare and both came out medium-well. The steak was not as delicious or as tender as the previous year. The lamb had very little meat on the bones. A total disappointment. STEER CLEAR! Let me start by saying this joint is a Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares episode just WAITING to happen... My fiancé and I went to this restaurant for my father in laws birthday. We had a reservation for 630. Let me start by the exterior of this "restaurant." This looks like it's being run out of someone's large home. The sign for the restaurant was also falling apart. All in all it looked extremely unkept. Upon entering, the establishment smelled like a wet, humid, musty basement. The girl at the front seemed clueless when we checked in for our reservation. I don't even think we had an actual reservation, they were simply hoping they had a table for 4 open. We were walked to our table. The decor throughout this place is hideous. Anyways, we were seated at a table that featured chairs that had to be at least 20 years old or more. Waters were already placed. The ice completely melted and a puddle of water surrounding each of the 4 water glasses. The menus placed in front of us were worn and old. Napkins were placed at each seat, folded up in a cheesy, tacky, 1990s style fashion. The menu had us even more confused. From "Chinatown" to "little Italy," however, the sign outside of the restaurant said "big kahuna lounge" and "Caribbean" complete with palm trees and seagulls.. oh and if you order one of the menu items from the Little Italy section, your choice of side is FRENCH onion soup, NEW ENGLAND clam chowder or a house salad. LOL. If you've been to any little Italy, you are certainly never going to be offered French or New England soups as a side dish LOL. At this point, about 15 minutes had passed and our waiter FINALLY made an appearance (this place was packed and I'm honestly MYSTIFIED as to how this place attracts ANYONE... however ya gotta consider the locale...) he told us he was sorry for the wait, that he had a table that was a "birthday party with desserts." Uhhh... he explained that the special, which was a local caught walleye, might not be two servings, but a single serving. What?! "The fish might be 4 oz or 6oz depending on the size of the fish." We ordered some new waters, a beer, and an appetizer to test the waters. We ordered the "firecracker chicken stingers" from the "enhancers" menu. After 20 minutes another woman brought our drinks and the beer my fiancé ordered, complete with a dirty glass to pour the beer in. Pass. Then followed these "chicken STINGERS." No joke, these were poorly grilled (what actually looked like chicken tenders that were thrown on the grill for the grill marks, tossed in the freezer and then boiled.) tenders that were tossed in a weird BBQ sauce. A pile of boiled chicken topped with a sugary awful commercial sauce. That was it... we literally left a $20 on the table and left. THE WORST SERVICE, ATMOSPHERE AND FOOD EVER! Avoid.
