Friday night - very busy parking lot
    Dave L.

If you go out to eat in this area, there aren't a ton of good choices. Put this place on your list as somewhere worthy of a try! We took our party there on a recent Friday evening. The parking lot was packed, as was the bar and waiting area. Fortunately, we had called ahead and were immediately seated. On the way to our table, I noticed the generous salad bar. I was excited to give it a whirl. Our waitress was efficient, just not overly friendly or engaging. She dutifully took our drink orders and came back a short time later with our old fashioned drinks and a Tom Collins. The old fashioned were muddled, if that is a make-or-break for you. Everyone liked their drink. The menu was a solid supper club menu; a little something for everyone. Our party had two cod dinners, a walleye dinner and a ribs/chicken dinner. We then took a stroll to the salad bar. In addition to two soup (clam chowder, cheese) the actual salad portion offered a wide array of choices. It was very good. While dining, I also noticed it being frequently refreshed. Our meals came with good timing for the completion of our salads. Each of the fish dishes was well proportioned and was appropriately hot. Our ribs/chicken diner love their ribs. They waited an additional 25 minutes for their 1/4 chicken and said it wasn't worth the wait. Aside from the dining room being somewhat noisy, it was your standard northern Wisconsin supper club dining area. Overall, the service could have improved with a smile and a check on the need for a second round of drinks. I eventually requested a redo of water and did get a full pitcher in return. The price was reasonable, the food was good. Would I return in the future? Definitely.

We had a great meal here after a long hike. Retro decor that borders on downscale but the food was excellently prepared from quality ingredients. The old-fashioned soup and salad bar was right out of 1995 (in a good way) in the selection of and appearance of the food. You will not regret getting the fish! The soup was also excellent. As seen in the photo, portions are generous. Service was warm but not distracting. Tables were widely spaced letting us get cozy and have private conversations. We started early, and watched it get quite busy by 5:45.

We made reservations and came in an hour early for drinks at the bar and have the supper clubs experience. We arrived and the hostess Kaylee greeted us and directed us to the bar and told us she would come grab us for the reservation. Kaylee was super sweet and friendly. We walked into the bar which looks like a fun spot to socialize. Unfortunately every seat was filled. Some with teens which was a disappointment. The bar staff didn't seem to see us nor did servers passing by so we went back to Kaylee and asked if we could grab a table in the bar area to order drinks until our reservation. She was great and found a spot for us. The restaurant and patio were empty but the bar was full. After a few minutes, no one had taken our order so my husband went to the bar and ordered cocktails. From that point the bartender attended to us. Our dirty martini and old fashioned were very good. When it was time for our reservation, we elected to sit outside since it was such a nice evening. The patio has plenty of seating and a beautiful view of the lake. The building could use a little refresh but it is still a nice patio to sit and enjoy a meal. Our server was Maria who couldn't have been more lovely. She was friendly, attentive and always walked with a smile. I ordered the filet, medium, with a baked potato. The filet was cooked perfect medium but lacked seasoning. The potato was fine. My husband ordered the special which was a chicken Alfredo dish. He said it was delicious. For desert we ordered the donuts. Served warm with a whipped cream. They were also very good. Overall it was a nice experience except for the start to the night in the bar. The hostess Kaylee and server Maria were excellent which helped turn the evening around.

But, upon making it to my 80th birthday, and getting back to the cabin, we decided on a rewarding trip to a Wisconsin Supper Club was in order. Again, Kincaid's did not disappoint ! Service was pleasant, considerate and attentive without being cloying. We all ordered Prime Rib and it was absolutely excellent: done to order; trimmed to minimize fat and gristle; tender, very tasty and consistent across all individual plates. The sides were all done well and offered with a variety of selections. The salad bar was fresh, clean and more than ample for any appetite. Soups were outstanding. I've worked and traveled for too many decades and my experience with Prime Rib as my 'go to' meal has left me with a very critical palate. Kincaid's begins with a good cut of beef, trims it well, and roasts it correctly resulting in Kincaid's being my preferred choice for a Prime Rib. Pricing is always a consideration and value for what you spend is really quite fair and reasonable at Kincaid's. I will be returning soon and sincerely recommend a visit to Kincaid's in Rice Lake.

Our waitress (who ended up being the owner) sat us and we told her we'd like some water. After waiting another twenty minutes the rest of our party arrived and sat down. After waiting about ten minute we all went to the bar to see if we could coast get water. I saw our waitress and asked the bartender to direct her to our table. She came shortly after and took our order. We all ordered and another person in our party asked for water. My boyfriend then asked for extra tarter and lemon which never came with his food, my friend never got her water. We wouldn't have gotten drinks if we would t have gone to the bar ourselves to get them. Our food arrives and my prime was completely rare I sent it back and when it returned it looked microwaved and was 1000% well done. Zero pink in it all all. While my friends ate their food I ate my salad bar and auggies waiting for our waitress (who is the owner!!!!) but she was nowhere to be found. She finally came back and my firmed asked for her bill and I told her to please take my prime off of the bill because I hadn't taken a single bite of my microwaved overdone food. She said okay and walked away. After waiting another ten minutes my friends went yo the bar to look for a to go box for his food at the bar instead of waiting even longer for her. When she finally came back she refused to take the prime off, I offered to pay for the salad bar and potatoes I ate. She still refused and told us she was the owner and we didn't know what we were talking about and that we should just stay home insisted of coming back. GLADLY. If I could give zero stars I would.

If…read moreyou've read my other reviews, you might note that I have a verifiable "thing" about old-school establishments and The Butcher Shop for me ticks all the old school boxes: glass cases displaying all on offer; butchering table a bit behind glass cases where meats are cut by these Rembrandts of protein; and succulent meats. Proper butchers greet you upon entering this Wisconsin shrine to meat and prepare to magnificent perfection the exact cut of meat you order. On this my first trip and after recovering my senses having been wowed by this little shop hidden in the woods, my particular friend and brother Bunky and I ordered porterhouse steaks (1 1/2" thick), 1"-thick boneless ribeye for the kids and for another day 1 1/2" center loin, boneless pork chops, and strips of double smoked bacon for the rotkohl to be served with pork chops. All meats will of course be grilled, steaks for 7 minutes on each side to yield charred, medium rare steaks. Oh, let me not forget to mention the smoked salmon that is so tasty and served as our biscuit for making the journey between lake cabin and The Butcher Shop. My particular friend and brother, Bunky enjoys a nearby lakeside cabin and will return as will I when next in Wisconsin. Oh, I will return, I will return and urge all who read this note to beat a direct path to the butcher shop whenever you find yourself in Wisconsin!

I cannot emphasize enough how pleased I have been with the quality of these meats. These are beautiful cuts: the organ meat was completely cleaned of all tissues and valves, the elk was bereft of the sheaths and fat that might make it taste too gamey, the ostrich burger patties plumped to the perfect size, etc. Every dish I made with the meat was fantastic, and I give full credit to North Star for that. As it was a present, I wasn't too involved in the logistics of shipping and ordering, but for my part, the meat arrived still frozen and in great condition. They even transcribed my friend's heartfelt birthday wishes onto a handwritten card! They definitely seem like a small business that cares about the details and about their customers. I'm not sure about the price compared to other providers of game meats, but if you're looking for quality, North Star Bison won't disappoint.
