Hi 99 Comedy Club, I took my son to the show for his 28th birthday. We absolutely loved the host! He was brilliant and naturally funny. The first comedian I would give 5 very relatable and current jokes and worked the room well. The Second comedian had a dry sense of humour but we got it and appreciated it. Very funny one liners. 4 The Third comedian was very funny but I feel didnt get to show her best due to the constant interruptions especially from the lady in front she was annoying and spoiled it. 3 from what we saw. Customer service was 4, Drinks a 5, telephone we didn't use and email contact 5. We blanked out the interruptions and felt it for the 2nd and 3rd comedians due to the interruptions. The event was advertised as being in covent garden, in reality it was in a really grim venue within university halls, somewhere near holburn (but not covent garden). I had a really poor experience especially considering how expensive the tickets were, and when i emailed customer service they have so far ignored me. read more

The customer services, management and security of this place is awful. despite called 99 club, they are not in 99 club, that's another location 5-10 minute walk away I arrived after booking days in advance, no spare seats, so had to stand at the back, where I could not see Had one beer which was warm as staff did not put in fridge My friend got lost and upset, as she didn't know london very well and went to the 99 club, which they are not located at, I went to find my friend, so I could bring her to the right location. Security wouldn't let me leave, I told them the situation and was told if I left, I could not come back in, I had to leave to find my friend - Please remember I was at the back standing and no comedians were on stage at the time I had to leave, i sent an email complaining straight away, so they could see I had left during performance times Over a week later, they have refused to refund me or even offer like for like tickets My advise is to avoid this place and go to other comedy clubs!!! read more

Sometimes people tell me I should go into stand up comedy as a career. Okay, so they don't, but maybe they should. I went to sit down and watch stand up at the 99 Club for my work Christmas party. We booked a meal+comedy with the 99 Club which was basing itself for the evening at Storm nightclub in Leicester Square. Let's be scientific (perhaps) and analyze the experience by parts. MEAL: Marks & Spencer's food to go. This food is generally reliable like an old steam engine. Somehow, however, 95% of the food managed to dry out like the Sahara desert. The mini bagels had moisture-devoid cream cheese and smoked salmon and was hard around the edges. The rice on the sushi was parched. The cheeses and meats and accompanying bread was okay. There was a plentiful amount, but little in the way of healthy vegetables (although vegetarian options existed). ATMOSPHERE: The club looks like a cheap bordello. Man, I love cheap bordellos... or not. COMEDY: If you're a meat-headed man, you'll love this comedy. If you're a woman or sane gentleman, you probably won't find the comedy funny. The first guy, well, I think I would have laughed if he'd started dancing the robot. He didn't. I didn't laugh. Number 2 was the best. I actually chuckled and even chortled sometimes. Well, I chortled the best I could without a big tummy. The third act was a woman. "Good, I thought," less macho humor. I was wrong. She might have been hiding testosterone behind her womanly form. booked at the comedy club for my 25th birthday, came to London paid for a hotel and when arriving at the comedy club the extremely rude man at reception told us that there was no comedy event there. we checked the address and asked surrounding buildings to point us to the comedy club and every time came back to the same building the man at reception continued to tell us we was at the wrong address and after walking but there for the 3rd time he gave us directions to another building but directions were absolutely useless. When contacting the company and them replying a couple days later they said they moved to a different venue last minute (not letting me know) Ending up absolutely ruining my 25th birthday and lost the money as they didn't refund me or even apologise Do not trust scam company read more

The 99 club is a comedy chain operating in different areas of central London. I've had the chance to discover the 99 club Islington and I fell in Love with concept. Four very funny and original comedians have performed the night I went. Even if I am french and that some of the comedians (1 actually!) had a really big accent, I manage to understand most of it and really had a good laugh with my mates. This was a small room very confortable and very welcoming. The staff is very nice and the show is very well organized. I particularly have appreciated the performance of Matt Green who is the resident MC of the 99 club Islington. He was funny and so good at making as if everyone is the audience were actually taking part of the Comedy. I really liked it! OK, this is doubly bad. My review is based on only one visit ... and I was taken as a treat, so feeling extra guilty for not giving the experience top marks. So what went wrong?! First off, not sure if the 99 Club usually have their own venue on Leiceister Square. On the occasion of my visit the night was held at a nightclub called Ruby Blue. One of these places that give the appearance of being smart but somehow feel wrong when entered before midnight. The comedy stage was squashed into a narrow area in the downstairs bar. The toilets were out of order (not classy!) which led of a discovery tour of the upper floors which were overflowing with office Christmas parties ... The only "proper" Christmas party I ever attended was way back in the 80's and this outing seemed like a step back in time - the compere and first act were entirely based on sexist, fattist, agist and racist stereotypes, without even a hint of irony. The first act was a replacement for a well known comedian. The other two were as advertised but didn't seem in the right mood. It never really got laugh out loud funny. We were lucky to have been given a table away from the main audience and its drunken middle aged men in Christmas jumpers. Everyone was part of a larger group which probably goes some way to explaining the unusual dynamic. Perhaps office Christmas parties should be banned from booking comedy clubs - the comedians hate it and it spoils the fun for regular punters. read more

The best comedy club in London in my opinion! My boyfriend and I try to go here at least once every couple of months and the line up never disappoints. As to be expected, there is always the odd dud but as the night goes on the laughs come thick and fast. If you buy tickets online from lastminute.com they are £8 instead of £16 and it's definitely worth booking in advance as it usually gets very busy. read more

I've been to other better comedy clubs. Pros: 1. Selection of comedians was a variety of types of humour 2. Its reasonably priced and you sometimes get really great comedians practicing new material. 3. you can see. Cons. 1. it has a selection of comedians with a variety of humour (we saw witty followed by dull and insulting, followed by witty observational, followed by crude but well timed) I think this is due to the nature of the audience being tourists so needing to have material that is also not aimed at 'londoners' but aimed at just people in general. 2. The seats - they were super uncomfortable - like the chairs you put out for school assemblies, 3. The bar - took ages to be served in the intervals. Meh - Its good, make sure you know the line up before hand, I wouldn't go on a whim, I was disappointed that one of the female comics had been changed for the crude comic. read more

Went here for my brother's leaving party, to be honest it was pretty bad. Plenty of seating, but you cannot see all of the stage so sometimes count not see the comedian. Wanted to move one chair to a clear space so that I could sit with the rest of the group but was told I couldn't as I would be able to see less of the stage. I ended up having to share a chair (rather than sit on my own as there were no seats together left - despite arriving early). 1/3 comedians were good, the MC was pretty funny too luckily. He was able to bounce good jokes off the audience. One of the comedians had done the same set as someone else had just finished which was a bit awkward. One comedian wouldn't stop saying how much he loved his wife (with no punchline). The last comedian was also pretty crude about Walter Scott - a man whom got shot 8 times by a police officer under racial circumstances, this only happened a few weeks ago. Pretty soon to be making jokes when the guy hadn't even been buried yet. It put a sour end to the evening. To be honest, though there were some good jokes, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. read more

Well, I went to the one in Islington. It's actually held in a bar just round the corner from Angel tube station. It's a bit odd as the first row is RIGHT next to where the comic stands. However, it does make for a pretty intimate gig. There was the compare plus 3 comics. One, basically fell on his arse, but the other 2 made up for it with some proper belly laughing stuff. It turns into a 'disco' after, but most of the crowd dissappeared pretty quickly as the bar took on a slightly chavvy feel. Seriously funny - still possibly the best comedy club in the world. I first came waaaaay back in the eighties when it was the original comedy store. The room itself is still the same from then (though the red leather sofas they have now are a nice change) so I guess the definitive comedy room where alternative comedy was born. But what matters is not the room, it's the acts, so just what does the 99 Club have on offer? I checked out their website before taking the plunge and the lineups looked pretty damn good. That leads me to my main niggle about the night. When I got there the girl on the door apologetically explained that Mark Maier (one of my favourites) had had to be replaced last minute. Ordinarily that kind of thing would be enough to knock off a star or two, but luckily his replacement was pretty damn good. It was very good bill and a very good mix of acts. The night started strong with Andrew, someone the host described as your typical 99 Club act very original with a weird song about painting a bus. Next came our replacement act, Paul Tonkinson a dazzlingly funny cheeky Yorkshireman who I though had to be the best of the night, but was matched by the last act exceptionally funny and another change in style - a laid back black female comic. I'd certainly recommend it. For a lad's night out, this place is a little too sedate, the Comedy Store itself still reigns supreme. But for straight up quality comedy it's a great night out. read more

Their showing the night was in a hotel conference room. Was a bit hard to find from the street, as we turned a few wrong turns, finally the sign popping up, but you'd have to be searching for the particular sign- not that of the hotel- to not just walk-by it on the streets. Being American I had no idea what to expect. Down a short staircase, orderly, quick line to get in, through doors that opened to an immediate tiny bar area; and to the right, more doors for the stage, and a rather small, cluttered seating arrangement that filled up quickly prior to the show. Was hard to find seats at first because most were reserved, and/or just had one seat available when I needed two, or were the very corners of the row so the view would be hard to see. Found a decent spot and awaited for my drink to arrive from my partner, a whopping £28 later for two whiskey and cokes. So not to say we didn't go out during intermission to grab the nearest bottle at a corner store. Again, I'm American so not sure if those prices are decent or byob is the norm. The comedians were a hoot. Loved all three for different reasons; very unexpected laughs from a quick judge of character, just by looking at them. My favorite part was the host, who of which I thought was an actual performer and we were just diving right into it. If I could've recorded part of his sketch I'd have it on replay again and again. There were some heckler sin the audience, that were either drugged or drunk that he handled very well, and after they were silenced, he seemed to revert back to their stupidity, to put them in their place which was even better for the jokes; makes it seem more natural and not rehearsed jokes. Overall, I wish I would've written this review back in April '17 when I saw the show because I would've really liked to find the comedians who performed- more so the mc- so I could follow them on Twitter, and see when their next performances were. If I'm ever back in London, I wouldn't hesitate to see another show, especially for how decently priced the tickets were too. read more

Simply the best. Their comedians are always amazing and you can tell the staff their are genuinely passionate about the shows and what they do. I've been to three of their places now and I really like how there's no sense of a chain, each of them feels different according to the room (swanky west end to tiny north london boozer). They always have such brilliant lineups - after more years of comedy going than I care to remember the 99 club has become my new favourite venue over the last couple of years. The most recent time I went was when I had my birthday there, which involved alot more organising on my part (I wanted to make sure everything would be perfect for my friends) and I was so impressed by how friendly and attentive the staff were both over the phone and on the night, made us feel really special! And of course all my friends loved the comedians, all so funny, but in particular Hal Crutenden (is that how it's spelt :-)) from Michael Mcintyres comedy roadshow made our night, brilliant, just brilliant. Awesomely good it's been a brilliant night every single time I've been. We just had my birthday bash there this weekend and it was absolutely cracking. A nice meal upstairs and then down for the show, which was just killer comedy. Only thing that would have made it any more perfect would have been if I pulled at the nightclub! I've been a few times over the last few years to several of their different venues. The comics are always funny as and the staff are always totally on it, loving the night themselves and making sure you all feel special and have a great night. A sad, disappointing experience -- the worst of three comedy venues I've visited so far. As others mentioned, the space itself is just a bad fit: it has cramped, plastic seats, some of which have obstacles in the way that obscure your view of the stage, and the lighting and sound are both lacking. The quality of the comedians was lower than other clubs I have been to, and definitely not worth £15. On the night I went, there were 3 obnoxious hecklers -- not necessarily bad, and obviously not the venue's fault. However, they did not deal with it at all, and the tension rose until the comic just left the stage and forced a break. Finally a bouncer came, but did practically nothing. read more

Here for a works Xmas party: So, the venue itself is pretty grotty, there is a buffet, which is plentiful, but very light on anything that isn't meat and reminiscent of Tesco party food. The comedy was good, on the whole. But it's not a place you'd choose to go for the dancing afterwards. In summary, go if someone else is paying then get to a much better place for night life. read more

Very good value - tickets are normally 2 for 1 so when I go on Sunday nights it's about 6 quid for 3 comics, and having been there about a dozen times, only 1 or 2 have been decidedly bad, the rest all ranked from average to really quite good, so it's definitely always worth a visit! read more

Ok, so you will always see this club advertised on boards held by shivering men handing out flyers in Leicester Square with a hungry look in their eyes. 'TV comics' the sign will often read, which is partly true, but it is mostly young up and coming comedians on their way up the greasy and cold pole of comedy. It's fun or excruciating to watch, depending on your cruel streak, as some of them die terribly, but it all adds to the sheer joy and applause when someone truly shines and captures the audience's mood and humour. The 99 club runs comedy nights in several venues around town on different nights. I went to the Leicester Square venue; a nightclub turned into a comedy venue through the use of rows of school style chairs in an area near the stage. It's chilly in there, and slightly too big, it gives the impression of an almost underground affair. The night I went the first two acts were truly awful, to the point of embarrassment, but they pulled the cat out of the bag with the final act, he turned the audience into putty in his hands as he killed us with his wicked humour. This club is an essential if you are into discovering new and exciting talent, and at only a fiver it's a bargain night out. Trevor Locke (former co-host on the Russell Brand Radio 2 show) holds a night on Thursdays at the 99 club Islington, and whatever evening you go to, or whatever venue, you are sure to get a few laughs and the knowledge that you just might have seen the next big thing. read more

I am sure this place can be fun for some people, but based on my experience tonight I have to give 1 star. First of all it was 7 times more expensive than my favourite comedy club. I went early with my sister and we chose some nice seats on a sofa, then the place filled and the lady that sells the tickets came and told us that we could not stay there and we had to move to the chairs. At that point only few chairs were free so we had to do with what was left. Then the presenter comes on stage and tells some people standing at the back to come forward and sit on the sofa. ??!?! In the interval I go ask the woman what why she kicked us out of the sofas to let somebody else there. She looks at me like I am crazy, asks if really somebody is sitting there and tells me something like: I'll take care of it. The show ends, the woman goes past me and my sister, past the people on the sofas, not one apology, not one explanation, nothing. I don't know if it was this incident which ruined my mood, but of the 4 acts, I found only the second one funny. The other 3 were really... so and so. I won't go back read more

Excellent line-ups, but don't take the ticket prices at face value. At an eye-watering £4.50 for a small bottle of Heinneken, this is the most expensive comedy club bar in London, so you'll either be dry or a lot poorer by the end of a night here. read more
