I've been to this theatre a few times now. I think it's one of the best theatres in London for viewing the stage. Every one of the 312 seats would give you a clear view of the stage, as they are banked steeply. When the St James Theatre opened in 2012, it was said to be the first newly built theatre complex to be built in central London in 30 years. The theatre was built on the site of the former Westminster Theatre, which was demolished after fire damage in 2002. It was designed by Foster Wilson Architects who also worked on the Trafalgar Studios, and the Tricycle cinema in Kilburn. The downside of the design is that the backs of the seats in front are backed up to the aisle of the seats behind. This means that the seat pitch is slightly restricted. I'm short so this is not a problem for me, but it could be a problem for taller theatre goes. The foyer has a nice bar and plenty of seating, but cane be very crowded too.. It is very light and is on street level, as is the entrance to the theatre auditorium. There is only one entrance to the auditorium from the foyer. This is not a problem though as there are only 312 seats. There are several emergency exits though. The complex also houses a 120 capacity studio theatre, although I have yet to go there. St James Theatre is a welcome addition to the West End scene.

Back again at the St James Theatre, this time for ridiculously named Urinetown the Musical.

The royal court is a place that divides opinions…read more Some call it pretentious, some innovative. Clearly being a stones throw away from Sloan Square Station it will attract the well-to-do spectator. The Royal Court Theatre is famed for its new writing, contemporary style and its inclusion of youth. It opens itself up to submissions from young writers and will often be overrun by budding play wrights and drama students. It sees big names in contemporary theatre such as Caryl Churchill and Jackie Kay but also sieves out some really interesting and varied performances from budding artists. I can't say everything I've seen there I'll be writing home about, but the last performance I went to see, Choir Boy in the upstairs space was the right mix of talent and entertainment, with a bit of moral dilemma thrown in. The space itself if pretty gorgeous. While the downstairs theatre is more traditional and larger, the upstairs space is more intimate. The audience are places so that they are literally staring directly at one another. Overall, I think it's a case of personal taste if you will bond with this theatre and its style.

It was a real thrill to get to return here on a recent re-visit to London…read more The theatre is well known in the arts community for its attention to new writing, experimental fare, and veteran artists, sometimes all in the same play. And it was clear that those objectives have remained a constant since the last time I was at the theatre in 2007. I had to book my ticket several weeks ahead from the USA, and appreciated that there were no extra service charges included in the purchase. Pickup was very efficient right at the main desk, and it seemed like the facilities have been attended to with care. Although my seat was in the middle of a horseshoe-shaped area of the theatre, it did not feel especially cramped. Thank you, Royal Court, for being a beacon of sustainability, class and creativity in London's theatre world!

What a brilliant place to stay in London. It was my family's home away-from-home while in London…read morefor a week on holiday. The reception and concierge staff are warm, welcoming and extremely helpful, especially Enrico who bent over backwards to assist us with trip planning, making restaurant reservations and purchasing theatre tickets. We spent a lot of time in the bar area having tea or wine as it was well decorated and very cozy. The breakfast room was always bustling and service was top notch. You couldn't ask for more breakfast options or better service. The scrambled eggs were the best I've ever had!! The bedroom and bathroom were extremely clean and well appointed. There were numerous outlets to charge devices and L'Occitan toiletries in the bathroom. There are both stairs and a lift to the rooms. The Club is located around the corner from Pimlico road for easy access to restaurants and antique shops and Daylesford Organic, which is a brilliant place for lunch. Sloane Square and Kings Road are just up the road for more shopping and dinning options. It was quick and easy to get a taxi outside the Club both day and night. I don't think you would find a better place to stay in London. I highly recommend The Sloane Club and I cannot wait to return.
