Nothing abusive, if anything she was too nice and accommodating to students who don't the work, or miss a lot of classes. My guess is these 2 students have their own issues. Some actors can't take "critic," and see it as abuse (it will hurt your feelings if you let it), but we need to hear the truth about our acting to move forward. We all get it in our heads we are good, but a better teacher who is honest with you (many just take your money and say great things) will see the difference, open your eyes if you allow it. Don't blame the teacher. She's trying to help you. You need a think skin in this business. You should be so lucky to have Barbara as your teacher.

I have graduated into the Advanced workshop and find it wonderful. The focus is on applying the work of the exercises to audition situations of today. If you stick with it, you will be working on readings and scenes with working actors with representation, and on the path to doing that yourself. The Advanced Workshop is more individualized. We are working on cold readings at the moment, and I am free to choose my own material. I am choosing to work on things that ask me to portray actions and emotions that I don't feel very comfortable with, and I feel that I have a safe space in which to work on them. When someone (including me) misses the mark, he calls them out, but not in a way that is shaming or humiliating as is the case with so many programs. There are always examples, suggestions, constructive criticism, etc., and he does not pit students against each other. Also some acting programs are very discouraging about auditioning. Ted doesn't have any problem with students auditioning and getting work at any point, and in the advanced workshop, there's an expectation that you start to put yourself out there and try to get some work and/or representation, if you don't already have it. Right now there are two students, of whom I am aware, that have representation in the regular classes.

The restaurant seating area has some small tables and some stadium seating. I was sat at a small table with two other people I didn't know. The server came over to take our orders but wasn't particularly friendly. I ordered an Antidote mocktail - it has rose, hibiscus and grapefruit juice, plus a cheese board. When my drink arrived, it was opposite of the drink I described above. The drink was green for one, and tasted heavily of jalapeño, leading me to believe I was incorrectly given the Club Spice mocktail. I flagged over my server and told him I was given the wrong drink, and he proceeded to argue with me about it. I said this tastes like jalapeño and doesn't taste like the Antidote at all, there's nothing in here that indicates there is rose, hibiscus or grapefruit juice. He said "the antidote has spice in it too" which was not even accurate and "the bartender told him this was the Antidote." I repeated that this tasted like jalapeño. He finally agreed to switch out the drink, so I ordered some other mocktail that had ginger and turmeric (can't remember the name) but it was good. Took a while to come out however. It was super weird and off putting that he was arguing with me when I clearly know what I am tasting in the drink. Throughout the event, service was poor. Water wasn't refilled until 10 min before the event ended. The man sitting next to me ordered a drink early in the evening that just never showed up, I felt really bad. The cheese board is overpriced at $27 for a handful of cheese, pickled veggies and a dollop of mustard the size of my thumb. The focaccia it came with was very good however. The server never came by to close out checks when the event ended so I had to track him down and make sure to close out. 3 stars for the aesthetic of the place, the friendly front desk staff and for some of the food and drink being ok. I wonder if the service here is any better during the day when there's just members in the space. I'd come back for another Lecture event but keep my expectations low for the service.

I started with a green apple, which took me a very long time to decorate/ wrap. I took in the advice of fellow crafters who attended the session and made 2 strawberries: 1 red and 1 pink. The event lasted from 6 PM to 9 PM and I stayed till the very end. The hosts were very kind and gave good advice to newcomers. There were so many options of fruit and vegetables to choose from. I am so glad to have been picked to attend. Neuehouse hosts lots of craft nights, I recommend it to everyone.

I'm hooked! He also let us record ourselves at the very end so we can keep ourselves accountable and be able to see ourselves improve with time. We started off with stretches on yoga mats and then floor stretches, then basic steps on the pole. I never once felt judged at all, and he came around to help us all individually. We also cleaned our poles with the provided wipes and sprays. Tips: wear biker shorts and sports bra/tank, skin contact will help with the movements on the pole.

I started off as a Pole 1 student and have progressed to Pole 3, thanks to its diverse instructors. CandyCane hosts a lot of fun events such as their student showcases, bring a buddy nights, and professional photoshoots. Their prices are pretty affordable in comparison to other studios, which makes CandyCane a standout in NYC. What would take this studio to another level is making classes 1 hr 15 min. One hour classes are way too short, and if you consider the time it takes to warm up and cool down, it doesn't allow for much time to practice in between. There should also be a ~10 minute break in between classes to allow instructors and students to transition. The studio would also benefit from bringing back Pole 2 classes for those at the intermediate level. I'm personally an early bird so it'd be nice to have more pole 3/open level classes during the day time. This isn't a dealbreaker since some people enjoy evening sessions and it works with their availability. Overall, I've had a fun journey at CandyCane. Ron (the owner) is friendly and supportive. I look forward to seeing CandyCane continue to grow :-)

It was here where I got my start in music under the tutelage of Mr.Kenneth Roane, and ended up being accepted into the High School of Music and Art, now the Fiorello H Laguardia School of the Arts.

I loved going to the Kennedy Community Center in Harlem. I started playing the trombone with some…read morefriends from high school who also attended. Mr. Kenneth Roane was the band leader and musical director of the music program at Kennedy at that time. Ms. Jones was the director of the center. I began playing at the center at age 14. By the time I was 16 I had passed an audition for the Juilliard School of Music. I performed with the orchestra, at Juilliard, spending the summer of 1963 in Residence at Dartmouth College for 8 weeks. I did graduate and now am an alumnus Juilliard. I went on to play for the New York Youth Symphony under Leonard Slatkin for 3 seasons. I now live in the San Diego County Area. I was injured while serving in the military and can no longer perform on the trombone. I currently play the violin instead. I highly recommend this center to anyone. It has existed for a very long time and has served the community well. I invite any former Kennedy Center members to contact me. It would be great comparing notes. Ralph

I am grateful to have a continued study relationship with the NYC location of Stella Adler with my…read morelong form Improv journey. Their approach to Improv is a nice technique that is split up into six different ways to sharpen your skills with something as simple a 'Listening' and then 'Making your scene partner the most important person in the scene' the second tenant and then and only then can one invest in the 'Yes, And' concept. There's also a focus on Silence in each of the improv, which made me very curious because it would affect the speed or pacing of which a scene was progressing. Andy Schneeflock was a phenomenal teacher and always addressed each of our levels and questions with grace. I look forward to continuing my studies here as they provide a great service to stay sharp.
