My daughter has attended Class Act NY showcases and done musicals with their stellar team ever since she was in elementary school. She actually met her first reps because she did a Class Act production. It was a safe, nurturing as well as inspirational environment for her to get an introduction to the industry, while making everything about it feel joyful and exciting! She has been signed for nearly 6 years and is now in High School and still working with CANY'S staff today. I highly recommend it as a starting ground for both young and older children who have an interest in musical theater, or other areas of the performing arts. Even if kids don't have professional aspirations, there are many other benefits of taking classes and doing shows with them. This is a great community, with a caring and dedicated teachers. In my experience, participating in one of A Class Act NY's agent showcases actually IS one of the best and most efficient ways to get your child (or yourself) in front of high level agents and managers. I did their most recent agent showcase (as a 24 year old- although I do look much younger) and got signed with a manager immediately after! I was amazed at the crowd of 20+ agents/managers present that night- many of whom seemed to have long-standing relationships with Jessica, A Class Act's founder. Judging by the sheer number of kids they have worked with (many of whom, looking at their Facebook page, have gone on to book Broadway, TV and commercials) and hearing about how long Jessica has been in the industry, they definitely know the different child agencies and the process of getting signed inside and out. They also do tons of one-day workshops- another way to get seen by agents and casting directors. In this field, nothing is a given, so the results of the showcase will really be dependent on your child's talent level and and if they're marketable. Their company operates in a similar way to the professional (adult) acting world, which means having to invest in these types of opportunities to get seen! Our experience with the summer camp was just about average. The lead teacher wasn't the most kid friendly. A lot of camp time was wasted on non-theater activities. The facilities at Pearl studios, especially the restrooms on the floor weren't the best. However, their one-day workshops with casting directors are much better. I personally think they take on too many kids, but it is the quality of the industry pro that makes a difference. The office staff (Katie and Rebecca) are very responsive. read more

I imagine regular classes are better but camp was a huge disappointment. my sons have been in other similar camps and we received tons of information, they learnt a lot. Here like my kids said, it was more a babysitting camp and not good baby sitting either. He added, they could have tried harder. That was our overall feeling. Furthermore even though there were emergencies on their side a couple of days which we understand, when we contacted the director (whom we never saw) to follow up on info where we live, she was most unhelpful. I share his view, they could try harder. There are so many other similar and better camps in NYC, this week they are in another one in which they are delighted and learning. We have enrolled our kids in A Class Act's programs for several years now. In fact, I think at some time or another we have tried them all! Jessica is a highly qualified instructor with real experience. The Broadway classes bring some of the "magic" from the stage right to the kids. The workshops give the students useful information and helpful direction preparing them for the realities that they may encounter out in the working world. Voice over classes are fun and the very young actually "get it" how their favorite characters come to life on screen. When it comes to one on one coaching Jessica and her staff are always right there to lend a helping hand. The summer camp and vacation programs give the kids something to do that is fun and rewarding with the thrill of a show at the conclusion. My son attended the Film Workshop with Jessica Daniel's Casting's Rebecca Gushin on July 25, 2015. The event description said that they will "Work with Rebecca on proper on-camera film acting technique and proper audition technique. Learn the difference between stage acting and screen acting." We paid $180 for this 3.5 hr workshop. Each student performed a short scene and received feedback. My son's interaction lasted about 10 minutes. Then there as a general Q&A after everyone had their turn. There was little "training" or learning. It was basically a mock audition that you had to pay for. The course did not share anything about proper on-camera technique or learning about stage vs. screen acting. In sum, I would not recommend this class. Perhaps a different one is conducted more to the course description. This particular class provided little value. read more

I agree with Paul C.! My daughter said it was like a daycare more than anything. She's 16 years old and was mixed with kids much younger than her who were acting out of control. The instructors didn't even bother to calm them down. They were screaming and rolling around on the floor and acting very immature. It was disturbing to the say the least. I thought she would be learning acting techniques. Instead she said she didn't learn much at all. Boy was I fooled after spending so much money for this camp. I'm very frustrated and truly disappointed. They should try separating the kids by proper age and doing more workshop techniques! read more

I agree with Paula C. and Anna V. We were so excited to bring our daughter, who is 16, to a broadway camp only to find it incredibly disappointing. My daughter has done quite a bit of community theater and we were hoping this experience would up her game. The tuition isn't bad but add the expense of travel and housing, plus using a week's vacation, and this less than impressive experience became expensive quite quickly. We expressed our concerns on the second day of camp and were told it was an "all skill level" camp but that they have to keep it in the range of the lower level. To me, this makes it a beginner level, not an all skill level program. It did improve slightly but not nearly enough. Further, they had the SR. division starting at 11 years old. It seems to me they need an intermediate level between JR and SR. My daughter, too, felt like it was more of a babysitting camp. I reached out to the director and felt, like Paula, that she could do better. She basically just tried to upsell me to an advanced camp for next year which is a 6 week commitment (involving travel and housing). Why on earth would we sign on for something 6 times as long with 6 times the financial commitment after having such a negative experience? Our NY experience ending up costing $6,000. A Class Act NY has the best performing arts classes in New York! My daughter has enjoyed a variety of workshops, including dancing and singing with cast members of Wicked, working in an actual voice over studio, and performing on camera for commercial and TV scripts. Jessica Rofe is a talented and enthusiastic instructor, who leads the workshops with the perfect balance of professionalism and fun. I was so shocked by how unprofessional this place is. Brought my daughter for a Manager showcase interview. The girl was very rude who recoded my daughter and unprofessional. the whole time I was there no one told me why I'm there, where my daughter is going. I was standing there feeling akward. After it was done, they have told me that someone will email me with the answer. A day later, I see a blocked number calling my cell and I pick up. The girl who like to use "like" told me on the phone that my 11 year old looks too old and this industry doesn't like that, lol! I think her name is Kathy. I kept my cool since I didn't want to be rude back. I said you mean she is tall ( my daughter is a tall girl). My 11 year old looks too old for this industry. She said well she kinda looks like she is 14 and no one like that in this industry. I wanted to say how she looked when I saw her in the office but decided not to make her feel horrible. The most Horrible place! This was a joke of a place! it was funny but sad that this company lets these kind of girls ruin their business. read more
