Some great staff, but..... as far as management , I'm guessing they're in cahoots with Trump and Musk. Contract is brutal as are the underlings that work in the budiness office. I mentioned that the soap in the bathrooms and shower were totally watery... Got some excuse and a week later still no change. Childcare workers are wonderful, but have way too many kids under their care. Many of the classes are fabulous, so I'll give a 2 for that, but management is really non existent. not only did their manager harass me, I think his name was Brian? but the locker rooms definitely need more maintenance.. the front desk staff were unfriendly as well not greeting me and on his phone! the female staff were very kind but the valley location is lacking in consistent measures of professionalism and quality in the rest of the employees. read more

The facility is okay. The service is atrocious! I left Juneau 5 months ago and went in person to cancel my membership before leaving. Then I noticed they kept billing me. It's near impossible to get anyone on the phone. After 4 months of still getting billed and numerous emails, the best I could get was account credit, or so they said. Then again after month 5 now, I'M STILL GETTING BILLED! The gym down here in Florida is much nicer and only $10/month. Alaska Club is billing me $149/month! Don't waist your time with them or your money. read more

*Sigh* Another incident has occurred. I was in the weight room for arm day. An older man in a grey shirt asked if I was using the bench. I said of course I was. I had my stuff sitting there and I was in the middle of a set. He said I haven't seen you using it (there was one right next to me he could've used), snatched the bench up, and threw my stuff on the floor before I had time to protest. I mentioned to the the front desk what had happened. Management had talked to the man, but he wasn't very pleasant to them either. Being one of a few gyms in town, I don't see how I have many other options (but I really like the zumba classes though...) read more

I went as a guest to alaska club juneau over Christmas break, and some guy named Brian has called me 3 to 4 times a week texted me every business day and emailed me over 10 times. I has to call my phone provider and have there number blocked, do not go there unless you would like to be harassed, other than that the gym was ok read more

Not only did they demand a death certificate from his grieving, elderly father they are continuing to demand payment for the month of September and put it into collections. I was over-billed for months and I called many times to get this resolved. The accounting department refused to call me back and the membership people said they could not help me. I even sat there in the membership office while they called accounting and even they couldn't get them on the phone. Finally, the over-charges were fixed (months later). I cancelled my account for a blatant lack of customer service AND I moved to a town with no Alaska Club. I received emails saying in essence "we don't care, well we emailed you, you still owe us the fees" and no mention of the fact I requested them to call me over and over again. I will under no circumstances pay the near $500 cancellation fee for the services or lack there of I received. They have now sent this to collections and have started calling me again with sales calls to start up a new membership! DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM! read more

The Alaska Club is very... okay. There's nothing that makes it very special or outstanding; I only signed up for this specific gym because it is close to both home and work. The customer service is great - until you sign up for a membership. That being said, the membership staff are nice and very knowledgeable. From what I have seen, every time I go, the front desk staff are very unenthusiastic, which sends off a cold, uninviting vibe at the very entrance of the gym. Customer service should be the top priority at the front desk, because that is where all of the customers enter and exit. To pay $35 extra for a Plus membership, you would expect real benefits. Sure, a 10% discount is nice off of the good items in the Pro Shop, but there seems to be no real point in having it be such a high cost for either of the Juneau locations. It seems to be a stretch. There is no real "spa," like the locations advertised in Anchorage. There is room to expand to something more spa-like on the first floor of the Valley location, now that the weight stations have moved. If there were more options, or a tanning area that didn't look deserted and added at the last minute, I would consider signing up for it, and I'm sure more people would, too. The atmosphere is actually quite nice. The newly remodeled weights area is bright and inviting, and the floor-to-ceiling ratio is very good for ventilation. It would be nice if there was better ventilation on the cardio floor. During peak hours, it gets far too stuffy to really work out comfortably. The layout works very well for the small space. All in all, this is a very mediocre gym. I would rather go to the local competition in town, Pavitt's, because the owner is actually there, makes his presence known, and is very friendly and helpful - not to mention that they are open 24/7. The Alaska Club seems very corporate and cold, and that atmosphere hasn't changed since I first tried out the Club three years ago. It would be nice to see more mature people working the front desk, or assisting their younger coworkers. There seems to be very impolite teenagers working the front desk, which is fine for just checking in, but not so great when trying to purchase items. read more

Horrible Gym. Sales reps are deceptive and shady. They lock you into contracts that are hundreds a month and force you petition they release you. Once you're finally released, they charge you exuberant fees. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO EVEN MY ENEMIES read more

Nice open space and ok facilities, but I will never go to this gym again. Through out my year here I was overcharged or double charged on three different occasions. When I called accounting it was always oopsy sorry here's your money back but this isn't something that should ever happen these days. read more

BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU SIGN UP. We signed up for a seasonal offer the first time we came to Juneau. When I went to cancel on the agreed date-they said that I didn't have seasonal membership after all. They made me pay the extra month and were very unhelpful. Sighting over and over again "it's not our policy". I wish it wasn't the main gym in town. Just read the fine print very carefully before you sign anything. read more

Always too crowded. Locker room fool of naked people. In town where you know most people you are bound to see your clients naked every time you go there. Sometimes you have to wait for a treadmill and there is always some creepy looking dude that gets on treadmill behind you. the gym is broken down in 3 rooms and you have to go downstairs to get to free weights... they close way too early too... read more

We were only visiting Juneau for a few days during the summer. After 2.5 days of rain our 4 yo son was going crazy from staying indoors. After searching for indoor playgrounds in the area The Alaska Club was the best bet. They have a 3 story playground and tons of toys. It was empty for the first hour we were there and he had a blast having it all to himself. Gary, the manager was a dream and we really appreciate his help. If you are stuck in summer rain and need your kids to burn off energy, THIS IS THE PLACE! $20 for adult and child for about 2 hours. Worth it! read more

on 09/06/17 my husband passed away, on 09/08/17 his dad contacted The Alaska Club to ask them to end Lance's membership. They demanded a death certificate. They also charged his dad's credit card for the month of September on that day. Needless to say, my father-in-law disputed the charge. On 09/11/17 I went in person to The Alaska Club and spoke to their operations manager in Juneau, Gary Dowd, who promised me he would take care of it. Today Lance got a past due demand for payment. I called them and they said that we do still owe the $149.10 because the September membership charge was disputed. OF COURSE IT WAS DISPUTED. Lance is deceased! Health clubs are allll about the profits only, they do NOT care about people. This rant is about the principle of the thing and to show others how terrible the business practices of the Alaska Racket Club are. They demanded a death certificate from an 81 year old man in Oklahoma, AND charged him for September's membership anyway. I personally gave them the death certificate and am now being told I have to pay the bill anyway, because the credit card disputed the charge? Nope. This is not only not going to be paid, but as I promised on the phone I am "outing" this pathetic excuse for a company. read more

I have never given anything a bad review before, but the Alaska Club has given me ample cause to do so. I have experienced horrendous customer service there in the 1.5 years that I have been a member. The "managers" are unprofessional, discourteous, and obnoxious. The head manager seems to want to do well, but does not follow through and therefore disrespects the members. I have never been so dissatisfied with a gym in my entire life, but the Alaska Club continues on because they have the market in Juneau for racket sports locked up. The gym itself is a decent place to work out but the Alaska Club is infamous for terrible customer service and my experience has definitely not been an exception. I signed up for a year membership, with full intentions of staying in Juneau for a full year. But then life happens, and I had to move down south. Even the manager at the gym cannot cancel memberships. The only way to cancel is to call their hotline. It took me three weeks of emails (most of which were ignored) and phone calls to get my membership cancelled. Well actually, its still not cancelled because they insist on making me pay for two more months so I can meet the 6-month billing point in my contract. We also disagree on what six months means. I started at the club in April but I wasn't billed until May so they are now making me pay through November instead of providing some customer care and letting me cancel when I needed to leave. Oh but wait, they were kind enough to waive the $400 cancellation fee once I had to prove to them I was moving via a ferry ticket and telling them the extent of my family emergency. Definitely felt like an invasion of privacy, especially in an already tough time. Canceling my gym membership has been the most difficult process in abruptly moving back down south. Breaking my lease on my apartment 6 months early was easier than canceling my gym membership. I would think they would be more concerned with keeping me as a customer when I return to Juneau than to get an extra $140 in membership fees out of me, but I guess that is optimistic thinking from someone who is used to quality service at much cheaper gyms. read more

The only reason this place thrives is that it's the only gym in town. The staff is very unfriendly and so are most people in there. They redesigned the whole gym recently definitely for the worst. Now the basketball court is smaller with worse flooring and no lines. There are only a couple of tennis courts and racquetball courts. The workout area is larger but they filled it with lots of unuseful machines so everywhere else is crowded most of the time. Also, there is no music so sound travels well. In summer, the whole place is really stuffy because of lack of a/c. Some people think the renovation was good because they added a TV with some lounge chairs and a kid area with slides and video games (huge waste of time/money). I would say don't go here but there really isn't another option Lastly, the place has very poor management and do not bother suggesting anything to them because they will not listen to you. read more

Had a very poor experience there. Had a membership for 3 years, but wasn't using it much lately. There are only a limited number of classes each day. The classes were so full that I would get there and there would be no room and I'd be turned away. Called to cancel my membership in October, they said it would be cancelled in 30 days and i would have to pay the next month. I hated paying for something I wasn't using for another month but I figured it was just part of the contract and thought no more of it. Found out at the end January that I have been charged for the last three months and I was supposed to have my request to cancel in writing...(this was never explained to me in the original phone call.) Called customer service, the lady just repeated 6-7 times that it is company policy that it had to be cancelled in writing. They had a record that I had called to cancel and I kept telling her that I was never made aware of this policy, instead I was told over the phone in October that nothing more needed to be done. It wouldn't be so bad if the rates for each month were reasonable, but when each month is $154, i feel extremely upset and taken advantage of. read more
