I don't know what the split is here. Probably 40-60% to the store, but we'll find out. There's a great selection of shoes, although a couple of pairs of boots were truly hideous. One wonders not just why they were designed, but why anyone bought them. They are, weirdly, arranged loosely by color instead of by size. This doesn't really make sense to us. The majority of the shoes are in small sizes, alas. There are nice clear stickers noting the sizes, so that's helpful. But you have to look at alllll the shoes to try and find your size. This is slightly annoying. I only found three pairs in my size. There may have been more, but I got tired of looking. The selection of purses is okay. Lots of classics, a few (IMO) passé pieces. The bags seemed to run about $3000 and up for Chanel. Prices seemed high ($500+) for St. John, but good to keep in mind if i decide to consign any of mine. Chanel jackets were around $3000 and up. There's also a fair amount of costume jewelry and scarves. You could easily find a complete outfit here, depending on your size. There was a gorgeous pair of Christian Louboutins in my size, for $535, but I have enough high heels, sadly. These were a deep green suede. I don't know if photographs were allowed, so i didn't take any.

They told us that all the prices could be negotiated, even the clothes that were already discounted. The ladies working here really made this place special. If you are looking for something, they will help you find it. They also told us that they are putting new items on the floor every day. There was also a large assortment of designer pieces, such as Chanel and Louis Vuitton. This store is definitely more catered toward people that can afford to live/vacation in the Hamptons, not a college student who happened to wander in. But if that's you, this place is a must-go.

We get to the register and carried out our purchase (No greeting until this point).. He's never felt immediate regret from purchasing clothing from a store until this experience. Giving the benefit of the doubt that hopefully this wasn't racial but please treat paying customers better..

They also have many other items needed to enjoy when out on the east end. My good friend purchased a wetsuit in September to extend his swimming days when the weather turned colder. So he could swim in the bay or pool though chilly out! Not a surfer... a lawyer who loves to keep the swimming season going longer. Hahha. Matt, Eric and Chris were super helpful associates. Checking sizes, products via phone, checking stock in their affiliate stores and holding an item while driving over. It's especially important to get a wetsuit right size wise or water seeps in and its too cold for that. He loved the suit. Once he came over thinking the rear zipper broken... he couldn't reach the zipper tag or get out of it! I checked and it was inside out!! hahaha... Never put a wetsuit on inside out especially if you live alone.. could be trapped in your wetsuit. hahahaha three weeks later there was also a small tear ... and the manufacturer offered to repair via mail.. but so did Flying Point saving time and trips to the post office. Flying Point was great at getting the repair in and done efficiently. When I went to pick it up, just had to give my friends name and they went to the holding room and brought it right out. Its a good example of why a good local shop is really needed... when sizes vary significantly on items and brands. Shopping is so much more than price and mail service... Online retailers could never offer anything close to this great customer service and small town enjoyable experience.

I hadn't planned on shopping while I was in Montauk, but I had to check out the store after seeing the cute dresses in their window displays. The owner of the store, who I found out is responsible for all the buying, has amazing taste and a great eye for patterns and prints. I'd describe Next Door's look and feel as an eclectic mix of elegant, chic and quirky vacation wear. Think Calypso St. Barth meets Free People. The staff was very intuitive and friendly, leaving me alone when I just wanted to browse and ready to help when I had questions. They even took a dress down from their display for me because it was the only one left in the size I wanted. They're also very knowledgeable about what they have in their shop. When I was paying for the dress I picked out, the manager mentioned that they also carry a dress from the same collection in a different color and cut, and asked if I wanted to see it. The next time I'm in Montauk, I'll definitely be stopping by their shop again.
