As we were looking around have been in the store for about 15 minutes he was completely ignored. A gentlemen walks in and gets an immediate "hey how are ya" - fine I let it go. He tries on some clothes and at no point did he ever get a "hey can I help you find anything" or similar... instead we both were given dirty looks by a young gentleman on the floor and older woman at the register. We get to the register and carried out our purchase (No greeting until this point).. He's never felt immediate regret from purchasing clothing from a store until this experience. The young teenage staff was extremely rude and immature at the Sag Harbor location. Within 2 minutes of being there, them and their group of friends behind the register were blatantly laughing at us, which was uncalled for and we left feeling very uncomfortable. Flying Point is a cool surf and sport shop.. a go to place for locals and tourists. They sell all kinds of water sport items & wear. They also have many other items needed to enjoy when out on the east end. My good friend purchased a wetsuit in September to extend his swimming days when the weather turned colder. So he could swim in the bay or pool though chilly out! Not a surfer... a lawyer who loves to keep the swimming season going longer. Hahha. Matt, Eric and Chris were super helpful associates. Checking sizes, products via phone, checking stock in their affiliate stores and holding an item while driving over. It's especially important to get a wetsuit right size wise or water seeps in and its too cold for that. He loved the suit. Once he came over thinking the rear zipper broken... he couldn't reach the zipper tag or get out of it! I checked and it was inside out!! hahaha... Never put a wetsuit on inside out especially if you live alone.. could be trapped in your wetsuit. hahahaha three weeks later there was also a small tear ... and the manufacturer offered to repair via mail.. but so did Flying Point saving time and trips to the post office. Flying Point was great at getting the repair in and done efficiently. When I went to pick it up, just had to give my friends name and they went to the holding room and brought it right out. Its a good example of why a good local shop is really needed... when sizes vary significantly on items and brands. Shopping is so much more than price and mail service... Online retailers could never offer anything close to this great customer service and small town enjoyable experience. read more

I purchased some casual lounge wear which is perfect for hanging around on a Sunday and even around the house. I went in there today with 3 of my friends and we felt very uncomfortable. We had a great experience looking around at the merchandise but we didn't purchase anything. As we walked out the woman working gave us a very dirty look and proceeded to follow us out of the store and stand behind us as we walked away. If the woman thought we were stealing then she should've said something to us because we would have been more than happy to open our bags. Monica ruined it all. While shopping this evening there was a nice young gentleman who was helping my friends and I. He was polite, enthusiastic, and a good salesman. I noticed because I myself am a salesman. When I went to the cash register to buy my shirt I opened one of the sunscreens he had been telling me about. Items at the cash wrap are usually testers. Monica approached took the item out of my hand and said now that you put your finger in it I can't sell it. For all Monica knew I was going to buy it. I felt bad so I did buy it but this woman who presume is the owner needs a lesson in Sales from her own associate who is far kinder and ambitious than she. I would not recommend shopping in this store. She could have taken the item and made a sample or tester of it instead of rudely reprimanding a paying customer. read more

I was on Long Island for a weekend wedding, wanted to go surfing and was over a bit of a barrel because a different surf school had flaked out on me. I chatted with Robb at Global Boarding and he referred me to Shane at Flying Point. They both were great about texting, emailing, and taking late calls (I talked to Robb for the last time at 10pm and Shane texted me directions to the beach). They set me up with George who was a super nice guy and really easy to work with. He did a review with me and then we went right out and had a great lesson. I feel like I learned things, tried some new stuff, and my meager skills were improved on. Our lesson also ran over because the waves were getting bigger and choppier and he wanted me to get one last good ride in before we were done. Love it. My one little issue was that parking was problematic. I pulled into the lot and was told by the parking lady that I could buy a $200 sticker or park about a quarter of a mile away. George ended up following me to a far-away parking place and then driving me back to the beach. They should probably warn you of that one in advance. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by Flying Point Surf and Sport. By the displays outside, I assumed it would mostly sell pool toys and inexpensive sporting goods, but it actually had a nice selection of clothes, accessories, shoes, and cosmetics. While a lot of the clothing seemed poorly made for its price point, they were having a fantastic 50% off promotion on flip flops, and had a wide variety of brands, sizes, and styles. Service and Staff (poor) : Most of the staff can be surprisingly rude, inattentive, unprofessional, and unfriendly. Having lived in the area for quite some time, I feel comfortable saying that this business is generally conducted unethically, and the people who work here are aggressive, abrasive, and unfriendly, especially to local residents. That being said, they have shown the capacity for at least minimally courteous conversation, and your reception will be greatly improved depending upon how money you are willing to spend. Unfortunately, the staff can be very unhelpful when it comes to addressing problems, complaints, or sales discrepancies. Quality (substandard) : The quality of the products seems to be, in general, decent, except for the clothing. Most of the clothing leaves much to be desired insofar as quality is concerned, which is unusual for the area. The prices in store used to be quite a bit higher than was really appropriate for the quality of the clothing, but the prices online seem to be more reasonable for the product. There seems to be an excellent selection online as well, however, the website does not seem to specify which products are in store, and which are not. Additionally, there are several products (such as clothing items), which do not have pictures online, and most (if not all) descriptions seem to be rather poorly written and lacking in content. The "Extended information" category seems to frequently claimed that Flying Point Surf has underpriced a great deal of competitors, but lists only 1 of the competitors that were undercut. Despite the fact that there seems to be a category for this, but it is left empty. It seems hard to believe that, for so many of these products, this store has undercut 7 or 8 competitors, when there are so few surf shops in the area. (Unless the site is referring to online competitors). Parking (difficult) : Expect parking to be difficult. There is rarely street parking available in the afternoon, especially during the summer. There is a parking lot behind the store, but most of the spaces are reserved, and the ones that are not, are almost always taken. Expect a decent walk, as you would for any store on main street that you intend to visit in Southampton during the summer. Website (incomplete but well stocked) : Not spectacular, but mostly functional. The template is pretty standard, and clearly was not changed much because many of the FAQ questions have answers that don't make sense for this store. (Ex: "You only have to pay sales tax if you are located in the same state as our warehouse.", yet this store seems to only have locations in New York). There seems to be no return policy, and there is no warranty on any of the products (as stated in the terms and conditions). The contact link in the FAQ goes to the "About Us" page. Friend has been getting great clothes from this place for years now. Today I decided to give it a surprise and my experience was exceptional. The entire staff was welcoming and ready to assist. This is the WORST customer service i EVER experienced in my life !! I bought a pair of pants that I wore twice. They had CLEARLY a problem with the fabric. I paid $80 for them !!! so they were not cheap ! The store told me that they were NOT responsible for it. They don't do ANY follow up with their customers. They have NO interest in keeping you a customer. They just DON'T CARE !!! If you don't call them, they DON't CALL YOU !!! This is the most unprofessional store I ever went into !!! This is in response to B G.'s review first, because that women was and is out of line. I will explain. Ms. B G. (I assume its Ms. beacause who the hell would want to be with someone like you). Anyway I was in the store actually which is why this is funny that I happen to see your review, and I felt like I needed to set you straight. When Ms. B G. tried to return her pants; blue pants if I can remember correctly. She tried to return these pants after about a year, dirty and worn; and by dirty I mean it appeared that she had soiled "pooped in" them. I don't believe that the shop is in the laundry business nor any surf shop/retail store. The nerve of you to even try to return your sh*t stained pants and further more to have the balls, and by looking at you, there's prob. something dangling there, to even write a review is appalling. You should be put down. This shop is great! They have tons of brands and are more then willing to help. They call you back if you wanted something. They took my info and called me when what I wanted came in. I've have nothing but great experiences here and it's very convenient. As for Kari C. Who the hell are you going and reviewing stores.
