After visiting Ionia for the Hippie Festival at the fairgrounds, I wanted to stay in town to eat dinner before heading home. Was happy to find they had an Alibi here as I've ate at others in the past. They had an outdoor patio which I would normally take advantage of, but Saturday it was way too hot. So we sat inside and it was nice & cool. We had an awesome server-Sidney. She was so bubbly and prompt, knowledgeable about menu. We both ordered the chicken strips and fries. "Arnold Palmers" to drink. Liked the fact that the fries were included with the strips. The strips looked different than I've ever had before, so wasn't sure looking at them, but they were good. Loved the fries. Even had a choice of applesauce or cole slaw with it! (All for $10.95) People coming and going. Attentive staff. Worth checking out when in the area! read more

My husband ordered the 3 tacos. They were on "soft" shells. The shells were not soft, although they likely started soft. They felt and tasted like they had been left open in the cooler. They were inedible and cost $14. Eventualy the waitress returned and got the manager who offered to have them remade. Why would he want more? They DID NOT offered to take them off the bill and indicated we could call in a couple of hours and talk to the manager. We didn't call, why bother? I had ordered Bailey's with coffee. Said she didn't hear Bailey's and brought less than a shot (below the shot line) for a large coffee. I had an olive burger which was very good, with onion rings. The onion rings are good, but wider then I like. I didn't get any dipping sauce. By the time she came back, I had eaten enough of them. I have to admit I'm not a fan of The Alibi, but my husband likes their drink specials. They had a great Bloody Mary Bar on Sundays before Covid. I had the chicken satay once. It was like jerky. The Mrs Chutney isn't bad, if you eat it before the chicken dries out. Also, they claim to have Russian food. All we could find was sauerkraut. Only left a 10% tip. Awesome hamburgers! The patio is on a busy road but it's decorated well enough that you don't notice. The servers are friendly and generally quick. Great local spot for a casual lunch/dinner. Highly recommend the Tsunami burger, it has jalapeños, crispy onions, pineapple. Very delicious! Swap out the chips for onion rings or sweet potato fries. I love this place. This visit (during the pandemic) my husband got the shrimp basket and I got the Mrs. Chutney with sweet potato fries. Mrs. Chutney was just as good as she usually is and the sweet potato fries did not disappoint, they are some of the best I have ever had. My husband enjoyed his shrimp too. I was super impressed when we were met at the door by a gal that was taking temperatures. It looked like she had a box of masks to hand out too, but I didn't pay close attention to that because I had my own. The tables were all spaced to maintain social distancing and were void of any condiments unless you asked for them. All of the staff had on face coverings and they were worn properly. Service was super speedy and friendly. I can't wait to go back. During this pandemic they have special days and hours that they are open so you might want to call in advance before you go. Hidden gem near Ionia! Pleasantly surprised with atmosphere, service and food! An errand brought us this way at dinner time and so glad it did. Fresh, local ground beef for my husband's olive burger and I went with the shrimp Po boy special. It did not disappoint. Seasonal drink specials too. We'd eaten here for our five years ago and was pleased with our experience. Driving by it again while en route to look at a truck we thought we'd go again on our return trip. Bear in mind this is during the whole COVID 19 fiasco, and they could only seat so many people. They took our temp at the door and had masks available if we didn't have our own. My wife had some sort of chicken sandwich on gluten free bread, my son had a wet burrito and I had the Reuben. The sandwich looked good, and she thought it was great. I had a bite of her leftovers and the GF bread was so good I wondered if it really was glutton free! The burrito was said to taste good, and the vegetables on it looked really fresh and crisp. But the Reuben. Oh the Reuben. I'm a Reuben snob, and this was by far the best Reuben I've had in a very long time. The meat was heaped on, but more than just quantity - it was thick cut and juicy. I'd asked for extra kraut, and the sauerkraut wasn't just pulled from a can and slapped on the sandwich. It was sautéed to a light brown, on the edge of candied. A great ratio of cheese with pumpernickel bread. The waitress was super attentive to beverage refills - even the free refills - so she wasn't just trying to run up the tab. I wish I had more reasons to go to Ionia... I'd visit often; but the Alibi is a 45 minute drive, one way. I do need to remember The Alibi if I'm traveling the highway between Lansing and Grand Rapids. It's definitely worth the 10 minute detour. read more

This is a gem and a great place if you're a motorcyclist. Designated parking! They make their own ranch which is a good start. Fries are hand cut and the chicken strips are hand breaded with a "panko like" crust. Very tasty and tender. Cold beer and a great selection of them. Service was also very good. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Very attentive and helpful. Lots of activity behind the bar as most of the waitstaff were filling their own drink orders. Everyone seemed happy, and they were all working as a team. Beer selection seemed about average for a bar this size. I had the special, Arcadia Anglers Ale $3 pint. To eat, I had the fried catfish basket and it was tasty. My wife had the mushroom burger, she said it was a little dry, but she ordered it done medium well, so that's to be expected. I've been here a few times, normally during the week. I recently just had a hangover burger; it was amazing. you can definitely tell this is not just thrown out of a bag and cooked. definitely homemade. I highly recommend stopping at this little bar in Ionia. certainly worth getting off 1-96. LOL, my wife tried ordering 3 tacos for carry out for taco Tuesday, 1 fish, 1 chicken and 1 beef, apparently taco Tuesday is dine-in only, That's stupid but whatever. so, then we were told you can carry out a 3-taco basket, so we said OK that will wok give us one of each kind of tacos, but apparently, the 3 tacos have to be the same for that basket, so it seems the Alibi doesn't have the know-how or technology to serve the carryout customers 3 tacos of their choice. Now it has a new owner and a new name, but I can't tell much difference, which for me isn't a problem because I liked it before and I like it now. They have a slightly better on tap selection than Gregory's, but with the craft beer revolution, most places have upgraded their beer offerings in the past few years unless they want to appeal only to people who wear Depends undergarments. The waitress was trying to tell me Gregory's had more of a bar atmosphere and that the Alibi is more of a restaurant, but I tell you, to me it's 95% the same. This is a good small town bar and grill without the superficial trappings of a chain place. Pretty sure they water down their alcohol. We watched a bartender "marry" a few bottles of alcohol(which the liquor control commission says isn't allowed, I've bar tended before). We sat for 8 minutes before even being acknowledged. The bar tender was too busy playing on her phone. She looked up and saw us sit down, but didn't do anything.
