The Alpine Lodge Bar & Restaurant is part of the Llandudno Ski and Snowboard centre which is located on the slopes of the Great Orme just above the Happy Valley. It's not the sort of place you'll find by accident as it's a bit off the beaten track and there's a bit of a climb to get there so it tends to cater for people using the ski slope, but it is open to non-skiers as well. The interior can best be described as shabby, the bench seating is all in desperate need of a bit of re-upholstery and the tables are all a bit battered and well past their prime. What makes the Lodge worthy of a visit though is the outdoor balcony where, if you're lucky, you can grab a table with one of the finest views of any eating place in town. The balcony overlooks not only the ski slope but also offers views of the bay below and is a fantastic place to enjoy a butty and a glass of lemonade on a sunny day. There is a licensed bar if you fancy something a bit stronger. The lunchtime menu is fairly basic, fish & chips, scampi & chips along with a choice of burgers and sandwiches and so on. I had a tuna melt Panini which wasn't overly expensive, didn't take too long to arrive and was very tasty. Overall the service was efficient and friendly and I'd definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for somewhere a bit different for a spot of lunch. One thing I would like to point out is that if you drive up (from Happy Valley) then right of way belongs to cars coming UP the hill (as indicated by sign posts next to the road). A long time ago I was driving up there and was forced to stop on one the steepest sections of the road. When I tried to start moving again there was an instant smell of burning and it turned out the clutch on my car had burnt out. I'm sure modern cars have more efficient clutches than my old Chevette had but please give way to cars coming up! These days I prefer to walk up. read more
