The rep lied to us straight to our faces and tricked my 83 year old Mother whom they knew had lung cancer into signing a contract on a tablet being assured that he was going to do a promotional deal with the whole house water filtration system and we would not have to pay a dime and he would bring the hard copy of the contract the next time he came over (which never happened) the rep told us we had a one year free trial and about six months into the trial period I texted the rep and told him we didn't want the system and that we wanted the American water company to come and remove the system and never heard from him again and the finance company started sending us bills and ultimately put a lien on our house for $30,000. Very friendly people and easy to find and speak to before you pay for the system. After, impossible. They were not even on Google maps until I did the map edit to show their office. Paid for whole house system. Every year they want to service and charge you $300. Which is fine if they replace filters and actually check system. They did not replace the Reverse Osmosi filters and appearance they have a scam going to tell you you need to buy a new Bladder for the system. Come to find out they intentionally clogged the Bladder and tell you $200 to fix. In addition, in fixing the problem my self I find out I do not have a whole house system. I tried for two weeks to contact this company to come and sun install the equipment due to the fact that the water pressure cannot make it run properly. Here is some very informative information about The American Water Company. The prize you think you won from the scratch off you did not win. Most likely you only won a water hose. And if you do buy the system you need to know that there is a yearly maintenance that you have to do on the system just like with a car also. And the maintenance is very high. To keep the system doing what it was meant to do you have to spend up around 900 to 1200 dollars a year to keep it in great working order. And if you do not do the maintenance then you have voided your warranty. And it does state that in your book that you get from the finance company. So, if you do buy the system please make sure that you are able to spend up to around a grand per year on keeping your warranty in check. read more

She asked: "Are you currently renting or own the home?" I responded and told her I currently rented. She then replied; "I'm sorry, but this only applies to home owners and home owners ONLY. This company scammed my elderly father out of $4000. My father received a scratch off ticket in the mail and thought he had won $10,000. He called the number and a salesperson named Lisa came by. She did water tests and convinced him he needed to buy a drinking water filter system for his kitchen sink. Not only is it $4000, but it was arranged as a loan at 9.9% interest! My father was confused and thought this company was giving him a grant (He still thought he "won" a prize). Hope you got a nice commission Lisa! So far the American Water Company has not been helpful in reversing this and refunding the money. We are looking into getting a lawyer involved. Definitely would NOT recommend. Their sales pitch is pretty convincing, showing all the particles in your water before and after it gets filtered. But then they had the gall to say that getting a filter for the whole house would save me money in the long run, conveniently leaving out the part where I need to go get water softener pellets like once a month. I had it for a month before an O-ring broke and water was leaking all over my garage, getting softener all over the floor and staining it. I tried calling them up but they were "moving offices" and never got back to me until I complained to the Better Business Bureau. I finally got someone else to fix it. Then, with this last cold snap in January 2024, the water in the filter froze, even with foam protecting it and a water drip. Once again, I called them up and they said they'd call me back once a representative was available. I'm writing this in mid February and still haven't heard back from them. Absolutely horrendous customer service, straight up false advertising in the sales pitch, and I didn't even finish paying off the $6,000 before it broke beyond repair. I can agree the way they put the message out with the scratch off was bullshit. However, I DID get the filtration system and I'm happy about my purchase. In addition to the filtration system, I receive cleaning products, disinfectant, oatmeal soap, laundry detergent, and dish soap for 5 years. We bought the system and have loved how different our water tastes and feels; however, the soaps that come as part of our package are horrible. Do not let the soaps be the selling point. I seriously do not have any more hard water deposits on our shower like we used to have, and other people have commented about how good our water is without knowing about our filtration system. We have been very happy with our product; however, we have not been happy with the customer service (lack thereof) afterwards. They were quick and had the entire system up and running in 5 hours, no drips, and no mess left behind. The company sold me a water system for over $ 7000. That was a lot of money. Now, when I need to get potassium they want to bring the potassium to my house just to be a nice guy. This nice guy thing is around $ 89.00 for the delivery. It really infuriated me when the big boss lady called just to tell me they would have to charge for this. I couldn't hold myself back from chewing her butt out for this service after I just paid a fee of over $ 7000. I believe if they were really interested in being professional and concerned for their customers that they would be glad to drop off the bags of potassium without such a "service charge". We purchesed a water filtration system through this company under the promise that they would move the system one time free of charge as we told them up front that we would be moving within the next 2 years. Once moved, 6 months after installation, we called them once every week or so leaving multiple messages. We finally received a response 3 months later that they would move the system for cost. If they were not going to do it free of charge they should not have promised they would and I would have waited to purchase the system. Horrible customer experience. All they care about is getting customers to sign the contract that locks them in, then the customer and their needs fall to the wayside. I purchased an RO system for thoudands more than they cost on Amazon (and not any better quality) and it came with a natural soap package to utilize with the RO water. The rep had old scents that smelled terrible when he did the demonstration so he told me he would get me fresh ones to smell and choose for my order...he NEVER did. I finally randomly selected scents from the soap website 3 MONTHS AGO and now cannot get ahold of anyone to get my order. I have literally called 20 times the last 2 weeks and it goes to VM and nobody ever returns calls. I only decided to purchase from this place because my friend worked for them and was in a friends and family competion to win extra money (she did win) but the owner decided not to pay her what she had won, and they were very shady to her as well but that is a whole other story. ISPC (the company that finances through them) opened a $10,000 credit card for my husband for a WATER FILTRATION SYSTEM!! They still have not fixed it yet! We also got a "scratch off " poker card in the mail for the fun of it i knew it was junk mail but its always fun to Scratch off things, So I scratched it off and well i ended up getting a "Full -House" Well I called the number and the lady couldn't "Tell me what the prize was" I had to have somebody come out and do a presentation. Well that's fine. They called 3 different times to get "Directions" to my house. I live in a really small town it is NOT that hard i promise to find my house, You could probably stop at the store and they would be able to tell you where we live. Everybody knows everybody type deal. We had the young guy come out at 3pm (mind you I had told the first lady that i would rather have the presentation AFTER christmas but she apparently heard "I need something BEFORE christmas" because instead of scheduling something after christmas or before the new year she scheduled something on Saturday afternoon after my husband got off work, Because if you are "MARRIED" you have to BOTH be there. The guy got here at 3pm and by 5:30 he was done. Because for about a half hour to an hour we were going over the system. We have really HARD water which is obvious to us however, On paper when they only count Laundry Detergent, soap, Lotions, Dishwasher Soap and Groceries on average. Because if you say you spend alot on Groceries then they will try to get you signed up for "American Shopper" which sends you "Coupons" well not everywhere excepts coupons or they only accept coupons to a point. and the town i live close to doesn't really DO coupons. At around 5:15 he started cleaning up he literally had to BLOW into whatever hose - which i think is truly stupid for the company to make the Sales people to blow into the hose to CLEAN the hose thats just plain stupid. Its great that we only spend under $200 for laundry detergent , Shampoo and body lotions and etc. BUT.... They dont count for your every month bills because the way I Save money is by going to walmart and getting big bottles of a shampoo and conditioner - Honestly i may choose to change shampoo and spend less for the month so it varies on how much we truly spend. Plus not to mention our Vehicle Insurance went from average to above average because our daughter is now added on the vehicle plus she is pregnant and we are trying to get money for that. Thankfully right now there's not much cost for the pregnancy. We were told they would take $250 off because he was miltary vet - and then we were saying that the monthly is still high - well they ran the credit which we dont have the greatest credit and the guy said he would do for $150 a month well thats great but the thing is its not GUARANTEED that you save money nor will you get a check from American Shopper like they say. They are supposely with GE but why isn't GE coming out and doing this instead why a separate party - the guy kept saying that we could get free soaps and free this and that, BUT... you have to buy the system which is approx $10k total. Thats not counting IF you dont have the room and have to do "Plumbing changes" and its great that you can clean up your water but that doesn't change how the pipes are going to be just because you have a filter system in the house. because the outside pipes arent going to have the system. We were told someone would tell us if our water was safe after we sent in some water which we had gotten the tube in the mail to send it in. A salesman came for 2 hrs and checked our water and said it was not too hard but not really safe. When we didn't buy after 2 hrs he took everything--didn't leave any info about the tests . This company is an absolute scam. My boyfriend and I are 22 and 23, fresh out of college. Of course, we got the same "prize" in the mail that everyone else fell for. Not realizing what I was getting myself into, I called the number. First mistake. Second mistake was letting them come into our home for SIX HOURS to try and convince us we needed this system. We ended up choosing to purchase it, third mistake. We were promised multiple times that our interest rate would be in the 4-5% range, but that was a lie. It's a whopping 9.9%. They also promised that this would NOT impact our newly established credit scores in any way, which was another lie. Both of our scores have suffered, just from opening this "loan". Conveniently enough, we were not able to cancel within the given time frame because of Covid-19, and now we are stuck with this system, AND the nearly $17,000 we will end up paying for it once it's all said and done. DO NOT BUY A WATER SYSTEM FROM THE AMERICAN WATER COMPANY. I WISH I HAD READ THE REVIEWS ABOUT THIS COMPANY BEFORE BUYING. We received one of their scratch off cards (that made it look like we won $10,000, but won a cheap mp3 player that doesn't work) and decided to let them come and demonstrate their system as we have well water and really needed a water system. We purchased the system. The system is great we love our GE Pro Elite. The company that put it in and their lies and non-disclosures are a totally different subject. During the sales pitch we were told that we would not need to buy bottled water and how much money this system would save us. We were told that we needed to use Potassium Chloride and if we didn't it would void the warranty (the cheapest we have found it is $32 for 40 lbs). When the installer put in the system he said oh no just use salt. It took 3 times and countless people at AWC to confirm that if we just used salt it would not void the warranty. If that wasn't enough we were told during the sales pitch, the installation and 2 other times when they came out to the house to that once a year they would come check our system to make sure everything was working correctly (not once did they say that there would be a charge for this). During the sales pitch and the 2 times that someone has come to check the quality of our water I asked do we need to change the filters on the RO system. All three times we were told no. We were never told there would be a yearly maintenance fee. The only thing were were told by 3 different people was that when they come to do the yearly check up to NOT let them sell us a new filter system (that is like a pool pump) and to tell them to backwash the one that is there. Well yesterday I get a call from AWC to set up a time to come and do a yearly check up. The young man tells me that the charge will be $235. I said for what he said for the filters for the RO and yearly maintenance. Then when I tell him no way am I paying and to have someone call me that has authority within the company he has an installer call me and tell me well I have to pay my guys and unless you buy the filters for your RO system from us you void the warranty. He said that we can buy them from them for $75 and install them ourselves. We took the bait of the flyer, thought we won something & had the company come into our home to test the water- the sells guy (Barry) was nice, Zelious, & talkative but messed up the paperwork & all over the place during our transaction- they were having a special on the unit & the soap for $8998- no problems with financing- we asked a lot of questions, one being if we ever moved- Jan 2018 our system froze our home- the city helped us figure out the issue- we used heaters to defrost- I talked to a sweet lady numerous times to get more foam put in but that never happened- she said that we needed a service that would cost but when we got sold the system we were told no services were needed- she said she was hearing this same statement from others- more problems didn't come up until we sold our home- things that happened at the time of transaction now make since- we found out through our title company that a UCC filing was done against our home Oct 2017- we had no idea what that was- ISPC wouldn't remove it- We were not informed of the loan being a secure loan/second mortgage & a lien to be filed against our property- our paperwork says a revolving line of credit- if it was a secure loan why did it take 10 months to file the lien??? we weren't given the ISPC disclosures, which were numberous pages- We talked to the water company many times over this since we were trying to close on our home- nothing was done- then 24 hours before we close we fine out a Convent Capital Logistics filed a UCC (lien) on our property- we have no papework, no signed paperwork nor heard of this company- we were unaware that we owed money- we find out that it's a part of AWC- we talk to Paul about this- he stated that he was hired Specifically to handle these matters & we were not the only people dealing with this- he would not remove the filing- we closed on our home & paid all the money at the time of closing ($10,000) AWC doesn't want to resolve this dishonest, shady & fraudulent way to sell units- if we hadn't sold our home we would've never known- If we were notitified properly of the financing, we would have made a different choice- we wouldn't of purchased the unit- we have our attorney involved & moving forward to court since we can't come to a realistic resolution- we own a company, when we mess up terribly we own up to it- we are seeing we are not the only customers going through this- the TRUTH will come out!!! read more

The American Water Company is one of the most expensive rip offs I have ever had to deal with. A contractor named Christopher Wilson came to my home, tested my water and told me how bad it was and fed me a bunch of facts. I appreciated that part. Then he proceeded to use his prior military service and his ailing health in our conversation to get me to let my guard down and when my guard was down and believed he was an honest straight forward person, he lied to me and got me to believe that the $9,999.00 I was being conned into agreeing to paying for a water treatment system that is supposed to have a life time warranty and be serviced for free when needed was only going to be $9,999.00 when in fact it will cost me more like $20,000.00 unless I pay a bill of over $300 a month and that the yearly maintenance will actually cost around $300 dollars a year and that is on top of the money you have to spend on potassium for the water softening tank. He lied to me and told me I could pay the minimum payment of $100 dollars with no penalties or extra interest. That was a lie and a half. He didn't tell me if you pay the minimum payment on the loan for the system he was setting me up for on the phone in my living room that the interest would screw you over and you would end up paying double for the system in all reality. The con man did and said everything he could do to get me to agree to purchase the system, even when I told him I couldn't afford it and I didn't think I was going to be interested. Thats when he started the lies about the minimum payment and there being no penalties or interest. Then I didn't receive a statement in the mail until 40 days later when you only have 30 days to cancel the loan or system installation without penalty. I felt like that was done purposefully also in order to keep people from seeing the actual cost of the system and cancelling any services. I have called because of a flashing light on my system to see about what needs to be done and I was told today in fact that they cannot even come out to my home without charging me to check my system even though I was completely lied to and screwed over by an employee of their organization about all of it to begin with. Finally after I was becoming quite upset the person in charge said they would send someone to test the water, but they wouldn't do any maintenance for free, only water testing and only this time. From now on just a service call starts at $89.00 and like i said earlier, the yearly maintenance is $300. If I could get out of this ridiculous debt, I would get the system out of my home ASAP, but because the language in the paperwork, I am forced to keep the system and reluctantly pay the bill and to pay for all the crazy expensive maintenance or else I am paying for a crazy expensive system that doesn't even work properly. I have basically been told by the American Water Company that Chris Wilson no longer works there and that he was a independent contractor, so they apologize for what he did, but they can't do anything to help me out. I hope noone else has to be tricked and conned into purchasing a system that is overpriced and that they charge you and arm and leg to maintain on top of the ridiculous price you are already paying for they system.
