Excellent customer service was first thing I remembered when I shopped at The Amish Craftsman store. Sandra was my consultant. I was leaving after my optometrist appointment at Eye Impact. I usually swing by CVS before heading home. The freshly-made solid wood furniture display stared at me as I drove by. I had to stop my car to check it out. Due to CoVid19 concerns, the entrance is locked. I had to ring the door bell before I could enter. Store was nice and bright. Sandra greeted me and offered to help. I was kind of in a hurry, but I really wanted to browse the store, perhaps on a different day. She explained as everything is made to order and store is a showroom. Instead of browsing, I told her exactly what I was looking for. I have been wanting a cat lounge at my kitchen window. I gave her the dimension. She went to the office to look for catalogs. I couldn't believe it. This stool with exact dimensions actually exists. Unfortunately, it's over my budget, even with the cheapest wood. I would rather furnish my dining room and my cat stay on his old chair. When I saw a reclaimed wood bench on a dining room set, I asked about just a slab for fireplace mantel. She said it's possible. I just need the dimensions and she could ask a vendor to quote me a price. read more

It honestly didn't immediately click that the furniture is actually created by the Amish... I thought it was just a name. Silly, I know. Maybe I just didn't expect it so far from Amish country. But that is indeed the case. All their pieces are handmade by Amish craftsmen. Everything here is made to order and it takes a couple months. You can look at their showroom, browse their catalogs, and customize as you wish. They have all their wood types / stains mounted on the wall for easy comparison. It's not cheap. We looked at dinner tables and they were a couple thousand each (not including chairs). The chairs were about half a grand each. It's priced high but I think you can expect really good quality here. It was a bit out of our price range plus the style is somewhat too conservative for us. Nonetheless, I really appreciated their approach to customer service. We were helped by Sandra who was friendly, attentive, and informative. She offered us coffee and made us feel really welcome overall. If you have the time and money to invest in one of their pieces, I highly recommend it. This seems like a wonderful company that really cares about their customers. read more

Excellent customer service and amazing quality in design/craftsmanship! We had an odd size space for a dining table and contacted the design team via their website. The process was so easy. I was soon contacted by email to get the discussion going. Sonny was my consultant and he provided suggestions, pictures, sizes, and prices, all via email. A great way to have a pre-discussion, so my husband and I had time to talk through it. We were wanting to match the table to our Amish kitchen cabinets we had installed 10 years ago. Once we had a general idea of what we wanted, we scheduled an appointment for final decisions. We popped off one of the cabinet doors and took it in to match the stain on our existing hickory wood. Sonny was very prepared and had everything ready for us. We also appreciated Sonny's easy-going approach and we never felt pressured. We finalized the table, then sat in various chairs to find just the right ones. The wait time for the table is about 16 weeks but will be totally worth it. Lastly, my husband is still raving about his gift of their Blackberry Butter, that we received as we finalized the sale. read more

On a recent trip to Houston, Texas I was delighted to find the Amish Craftsman on Washington Ave. This trendy area of town lends itself to a great deal of culture, fine dining and art galleries. This store has a huge showroom of hand-crafted Amish furniture and accents. My knowledge of this craft was limited upon my arrival but the store owner, Kimberly, introduced me to the history of Amish furniture building and the differences between styles, stains and finishes. She was very patient and answered all my questions without pressuring me to buy something. However, I did find a rocking chair that I swear was love at first site. I now know the time and effort that when into making the piece of furniture and know that I will cherish it for years to come. I can't say enough good things about this store. Kim and Steve have crafted an awesome customer service led store selling amazing furniture. We have had some of our pieces from when they first opened and have added o we the years.....beds, dressers, tables, night stands, filing drawers. Our last purchase was several years ago. Fast forward to last week when I decided to repaint the master bedroom and moved the bed. Well, I didn't do such a great job and cracked the plastic floor protective covering on one of the support legs that run down the middle of the king size bed. I have bought Amish furniture at a couple of the Amish shops in town. This one by far is my favorite. I ordered a special request, and they were able to quickly work with the builder and give me pricing. I asked for my piece to be of an unconventional piece of wood. Great delivery, and this was as easy as it gets. Is Amish furniture the best deal in town if you want a functional piece of furniture, no. It is for the person that wants to customize the whole process. You pick the design, the wood, the stain, and other custom features you want. It is priced close to Bassett and Ethan Allen. This furniture is all wood, and there is no particle board. Love this furniture, and loved my experience here. read more

Few things get better with age -- wine, quality leather products, and fine furniture are a few examples. Furniture from the Amish Craftsman is certainly in the last category. I can attest that the furniture offered at the Amish Craftsman is of the highest quality. We bought a dining room table five years ago - brown maple - and it is beautiful, extremely heavy, and durable. It has barely aged in that time but I can tell that it's the kind of furniture that will wear beautifully and look even better with each decade. The craftsmanship is meticulous and obviously at the very top end. If you want furniture with a timeless look that will not come loose, wiggle, fade, or fall apart -- you need to give the Amish Craftsman a close look. (Any furniture that takes 12 weeks to make is not going to be flimsy. These people use serious quality solid wood - no crap particle board or fake garbage.) Also, the owners are lovely people and not pushy at all. They know their product and are very helpful. We will definitely come back for more pieces soon. read more

It would be hard to argue that there are any better quality retail furniture stores in Houston. This is heirloom stuff that you will hand down for generations; the hand-made pieces are by various Amish builders in the Midwest and Northeast. You can ask for customization - in our case we wanted drawers under the bed for seasonal clothes. The only thing is, you really need to be interested in the Shaker style. They don't do contemporary, early American, etc. The stated lead time was 8-10 weeks, which worked well in our situation. This time frame was accurate. There were two minor issues with the bed and dresser, which is NOT to be expected at this price point. These were happily corrected, and certainly not the fault of The Amish Craftsman store itself. The flaws were noticed by the installers and we were immediately told. Amish Craftsman contacted the maker, and took care of both issues immediately. Great service after the sale. read more

We are repeat customers of The Amish Craftsman. We purchased a table at this store several years ago, which was destroyed during Harvey. So, we recently replaced it with the same table. It was so nice that we could get the same table with the same finish, since somehow the chairs survived the flood. They were very helpful in the showroom, and the table was delivered before the time expected. They have also added a designer to their staff, who is quite helpful. A great experience! read more

We just added a new table to our expanding collection of furniture from The Amish Craftsman. The desk that we bought nearly 10 years ago still looks like it could sit o the showroom floor. This is extremely high quality furniture that we expect to keep forever. Not only is the furniture itself made in the United States, but I noticed that even the mechanical hardware on our recliners is made in the US. I detest the current style of oversized furniture that leaves no support for your back and sometimes even leaves your feet dangling so I went looking for a solution. Even my husband who is almost 6 foot tall has this issue with no back support. I literally perused over 10 furniture stores before walking into this one. I liked the real wood and that you could pick your own fabrics and colors and have it custom made. The salesperson spent a lot of time and she sat with me while I went through EVERY fabric book they had. A couple books twice. Then that they would allow me to adjust the frame so it EXACTLY fit like a glove. I can lean back with support. When they delivered the furniture I can tell you it's SOLID and sturdy, built to last. I can see myself in 10-20 years if I am still alive redoing the cushions when I tire of the blue. My husband adores the matching rocker he got, it's probably one of his favorite furniture purchase in the last 15+ years. The only warning I will add is that you do pay for the quality, but having owned it a couple months now I am happy we decided to buy it. read more

I started with a night stand. Then today I ordered my bed. From the moment I walked in the door I was greeted with kind hellos and felt welcomed. Kimberly remembered me from my first purchase and was very helpful with this one. I love this store. You have the ability to create your own vision. After hurricane Harvey, we decided that we would like some nice Amish furniture. When we got to the store, we were very impressed with the workmanship and quality. I just love all the little details, the gears, and everything that go into this handmade furniture. There are so many types of wood, finishes, and fabrics for chairs, that it was a little overwhelming trying to pick out what we wanted. When our furniture was delivered a couple of days ago, I was so very happy. Not being sure of what the finished product would look like, I was extremely impressed when it arrived. I could not be happier with what we received. The customer service of the in store and delivery staff was excellent. They were all very professional and polite. We have purchased a dining table and chairs, a bedroom set with end tables and lamps, countless stools and side tables, bookcases, a desk, other lamps and many quality accessories. My 22 year old son just selected a bed and a chest for his room from The Amish Craftsman. He found the store and loves their style. His vision was to find something simple but beautiful. The style of our house is 'classic contemporary', and I wondered whether amish furniture would have more of a traditional feel to it. To my delight, our son found a bed that works beautiful in our home. It has simple lines and the quality of the hand-made pieces is remarkable. The finish is rich and lustrous and brings out the beauty of the wood. - Their sales rep, Hector, was not only friendly and humorous, he also was genuine. He made sure the pieces would work in our house by making a home visit and bringing additional wood samples to the ones we had chosen. My wife and I were looking to buy new furniture and were set on finding solid wood pieces that would last a lifetime. We did some shopping and were disappointed to find many of the furniture stores in our area have a limited selection of solid wood furniture, if any at all. We found The Amish Craftsman while searching for other furniture stores to visit. We arrived 10 minutes before the store was to close and they stayed open late to accommodate us. We were so happy to find what we were looking for we ordered a coffee table and a pair of end tables that night. Since our initial visit, we have returned to The Amish Craftsman for additional furniture. Each time we were greeted with the same excellent customer service we experienced during our first visit. The sales people are helpful and were respectful of our budget, showing us additional options that were available at different price points. While the furniture is generally expensive, the furniture is customized to your taste (wood/stain/hardware) and the quality is excellent. We believe we will never have to replace the furniture we have bought from The Amish Craftsman. The delivery team is also terrific. Each time they delivered an order for us they took the time to find where we wanted the furniture placed, covered and protected anything in their path, and reminded us of the care instructions for our new furniture. In addition, they provided several types of wood and several stain colors; thus, the final product was made to our detailed specifications. I really couldn't be more satisfied with the furniture we bought or the service we received at The Amish Craftsman. My husband and I picked out three pieces of furniture and added custom finishes to them so they would fit the space in our living room. Not only were we able to speak directly with the person who would be making our tables, but he also provided us with ideas to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. The tables were delivered on time and the people who delivered them were friendly (and kind enough to help move our old furniture into another room). A few weeks later, my husband decided he didn't like the type of drawer pulls on the drawers, so we called up The Amish Craftsman to see how much it would cost to change them. Not only did they engage in numerous phone calls to address the concern, but they also sent someone over to come pick the tables back up so we wouldn't have to bring them in. They ended up changing the pulls to something that was exactly what we were looking for and didn't charge us a thing to do it. At every turn, the staff there has been kind, professional, and willing to go out of their way to be sure we love our furniture. And on that topic, let me say that the tables they built are absolutely beautiful--the wood and the workmanship are top quality, well worth the cost, and the kind of furniture you can keep for years. read more
