This is a lovely place to meet lovely, vivid people. The food is very tasty and the atmosphere great. Whenever I go there, I am surrounded by all kind of arts. It's fantastic! Um es etwas internationaler zu machen, fuege ich nun auch einen deutschen Kommentar hinzu :-) Das Arthouse ist nicht nur ein Tummelplatz fuer Kuenste und Kuenste jeglicher Art, es treffen sich hier auch Menschen unterschiedlichster Nationalitaeten. Ich fuehle mich hier sehr wohl und freundlich aufgenommen. Das Essen ist sehr schmackhaft. Das Schoene am Arhouse ist zudem, dass hier nur vegetarisches und veganes Esen angeboten wird, darauf geachtet wird, alle Zutaten soweit es geht aus lokalen Resourcen zu kaufen, dass sie biologisch-dynamisch angebaut wurden und natuerlich ebenso faitrade. Das kuenstlerische Ambiente ist an allen Ecken und Enden zugegen. Von Zeit zu Zeit kommen Musiker einher und fangen an aufzuspielen. Achja das ist auch etwas ganz Besonderes hier, es ist ein cafe, dass nicht Gewinnstrebend orientiert ist. A pleasant, relaxing place to come and natter with friends with a number of interesting activities going on. Staff are friendly , But .. Very wishy washy about their objectives. Has the ambience of a squat cafe but in reality is something else. For example, the icing on the cake was their support of the Southampton City Council Royal Wedding street party. Art House made red white and blue royal teapot and serving cucumber sandwiches for all. Their facebook page included the official link to the royal street party - complete with union jack and happy faces of wills and kate. Also banned a fundraiser for Palestine - they didn't want to upset the Israelis. Don't support this place if you are wanting a radical alternative, - they're not they're just another money making outfit with overpriced vegan snacks. read more

This is an absolutely fabulous place, and is about the only place in central Southampton to get decent food and coffee that's not from a big chain. The staff are welcoming and friendly, there's a great range of organic veggie food, hot drinks, wines and beers, local art and crafts, vintage clothing, and stuff to keep the kids occupied. Various workshops and events run most days, and the Art House is big on getting involved in community events and promoting other like-minded projects. A fantastic place to go with friends, and equally it's easy to be comfortable chilling by yourself, reading a book, or doodling in the "doodle books" provided! Highly recommended :-) read more

The Art House is definitely the most interesting cafe you'll ever drink a coffee in!! It's not only a cafe, it's a gallery and workshop space that holds lots of interesting and sometimes free workshops and events for a wide range of interests! Its very community spirited and run by volunteers and is always a welcoming place where you never feel that you should drink up and leave your table for the next customer, infact quite the opposite is the case and one can often find it hard to tear oneself away from the comfy sofas, doodle books, and friendly staff!! It is a unique and very valued place by all who use it and is so, so much more than just a cafe!! read more

I totally agree this is a wonderful place with really nice staff who make you feel welcome, I have only been in a few times but will be going back, I love the creative feel to the place, I have not attended any of the amazing workshops they have yet but I am hoping to some time in the future, a friend went to a photography workshop and was raving about it afterwards, keep up the good work. They also have a facebook page and you can sign up to receive regular emails about what is going on, although I have not been able to go to anything yet, they all look interesting and I have passed the info on to others. read more

I wish the Art House had been around when I still lived in Southampton; I love heading over to this oasis of warmth and relaxation whenever I visit the city. I've always received a warm and cheery welcome from the staff and felt very much at home. From the wholesome, scrumptious food (om nom nom!) to the varied events, beautiful art displayed about the place and the doodles of countless people who have chilled out in the café, visitors to the Art House Café will see there's something very special about this gorgeous place. This place is like popping round to see ya mates for a cup of tea/ organic cider :O) Very chilled atmosphere, very approachable staff (but calling them staff is liking calling a friend who's just cooked you a nice meal 'staff', but you get the drift). The background music, art and deco inspires you to broaden your tastes, and there's every chance a random set of events causes a jam to suddenly happen there and then. Food's great, the place is mooooost relaxed and friendly, and where else provides a sketchbook you can doodle in while you drink your tea? I am a newly appointed volunteer at the art house, and am having great fun working there. The food is great, and the cakes are delicious. All the staff are extremely friendly, and work together to create a great atmosphere. I also suggest that you go to the new years party this year, last years was great fun, danced the night away! read more

The Art House is a very interesting space. Filled with very interesting people. It hosts a variety of very interesting events, my personal favorite being 'Moving Voices', an open mic night of the most bewildering variousness. The salads and the soup are very very enjoyable, handcrafted, and good for you to extremes of silliness. read more

An ecclectic and soulful mix of food, drinks, inspiration, people and space! There isn't anywhere like this in Southampton and, so far as I've found, elsewhere in the county. The best hot chocolates and the best decor. Somewhere with soul and character in a city of increasing facelessness. don't bother walking further into town you won't find anything better, except the usual overcrowded and overpriced Starbucks, Costas and the like. Great cake as well! read more

One of the best places to hang out in town, and meet arty people. Relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff and customers. Really bohemian feel to the whole venue. Art on the walls, a veggie cafe and they run a huge number of events and arty workshops. Definitely worth a visit. read more

I don't get into town very often and when I do I want somewhere cosy, unique and friendly. It's in a perfect location (not in the middle of all the mad hustle), the cake is fab and the art is local and wonderful! read more
