What a great shop to buy local! I was on my way to a birthday lunch for two friends and needed a small "something" to finish off each of their gift bags! I found these beautiful, hand painted mole-skin notebooks that was perfect! I found painted scenes that spoke to each of their loves and personalities! The gal at the checkout was very helpful in wrapping my items for gift giving and she even marked the bags for me so that I would gift the correct bag to the proper recipient. I can't wait to head back over to browse again for myself. The prices seamed quite reasonable and the art selection wonderful. read more

What a terrible name. Art co-ops can be so fun but this one is poorly curated. Most of the art is mediocre at best and fairly pricey. It wasn't really a matter of taste it just had low quality products. The only artist that I found worth looking at was a photographer and they only had a few pieces left. read more

I continue to be amazed at the variety and selection of artwork at this very unique store. I see art in this store that I have seen no where else. The woodwork is outstanding. The scarfs are delicious and I have more than a few. I reside in the Bay Area and these are much appreciated during the winter months (Well, when we had winters). While there are numerous artist who I would love to simply come in and decorate my home I have to say my fave is Laura Morton. Her etchings are wunderbar! Her tall redwoods lift my spirits. They have a wonderful studio sale/show in August and I literally have purchased half of my Christmas gifts during this event. Jimee & Jeff Taylor's blue bowls are the perfect size for dips, soups, and of course, ice cream. That gal who does the humorous dogs is no slouch either. It was a sunny day downtown and my gf and I decided to take a walk to check out some of the stores we hadn't when we used to go to UCD. As we walked by the day's vibrant sunlight really lit up the showroom and drew us in. The Artery is filled with a bunch of different types of works- from waxed candles, wooden bowls, to jewelery. The gallery has a lot of interesting things to check out! When you've only got a couple hours to pass on a nice quiet day in Davis, there's no need to go all the way to sac and rush a museum trip when you can simply head down to The Artery. Local gallery with local art and works, it's a great place to check out the talent located within our fair city. As a broke college student though, I have to admit that a lot of the items are beyond my price range, but I can't help but push the fact that anyone can simply drop in and take a look around for free! A big plus is that the artists that place their works in the gallery are sometimes present to answer questions about their work; even if you're not there with the intent to buy, I could sense that they were happy that we were drawn and interested in their work- making it a very friendly and welcoming atmopshere! read more

It was a wonderful delight coming into this store. I was shopping for a cards and I was able to find pictures taken of the local area. I also bought a card that someone had hand made. I paid $4.25 for each card. Which might sound like a lot, but I'm used to seeing cards at Hallmark starting at $5.99. So its still a great deal, and I feel happy I'm supporting local artists. There is so much to see in this store. Dishes beautifully hand crafted, wood pieces of all sorts of kinds (cutting boards, games, pens), and unique jewelry pieces. Compared to similar works these are a much better price and the artists receive a better commission on their work. Stopped in to see a friend's piece in their gallery. Nice co-op. Lots of interesting items for sale... I bought a sweet T-shirt stenciled with dragonflies. My friend bought a cute dish with sketch of a dog and cute saying. Since everything is made by an artist the prices aren't cheap... they're reasonably priced for what they are... great place to pick up something for a special occasion or special person. read more

It is the best boutique for a wide range of items - from jewelry to clay dishes, oil paintings to handcrafted shawls, on and on. And what makes it even more wondrous, is that you can come nearly weekly and find that various artists have added new treasures.This is the first store I stop at when looking for personal delights and gifts for friends. I was driving through Davis on my way west, and parked near The Artery prior to eating a remarkably bad lunch at a restaurant nearby. I was feeling pretty grumpy. On my way back to the car, I noticed a sign saying "artists' cooperative." I always have to take a look in such places, no matter what my mood, and the items near the window looked quite promising. So enter I did, and I was floored by the high quality of the artwork and crafts. I immediately found a gorgeous textile piece to buy, and end up getting a couple other items as well. Spent a packet. There was an impressive exhibit of award-winning ceramics in the gallery on one side of the store, and in the retail side there were several fantastic ceramic scuptures for sale that I (still) deeply covet. Excellent utilitarian ceramics. Gorgeous wooden bowls, toys and games. Jewelry, works on canvas, small gift items. So many lovely things by so many talented artists and craftspeople. If you live in Davis you probably know about The Artery. If you are passing through, this is well worth a stop. I plan to return next time I drive through town. read more
