On a search for 'mansions in Philadelphia' this mansion as many others in the area have interesting events. This event was unusual, view a movie in the Parlor. I didn't know what to expect but I really enjoyed myself. As for the portion of the house I could see, it was impressive. A house with lots good sized of rooms. Each room displayed pre and civil war era decor, As per the time heavy, dark and opulent. I found the staff inviting and edifying. Our tour included 10 rooms: parlor, dining area, kitchen, library, mother's day room, mother's bed room, husband's bedroom, husband's bathroom, children's room, and billiards room. I've toured other family homes including the Ford Family estate in Grosse Pointe, MI (60 rooms) so I think I had different expectations.That's my own fault though for not researching more about the home. Note: you are unable to take photos inside the house, although this seems to be common practice when touring family homes. The house itself was an interesting piece of history and our tour guide was incredibly informed. Great quality, 5 stars. The reason the overall score is so low is because of my experience with the Executive Director. Very poor, 0 stars. I second Celic's comments of interacting with someone rude. My friends and I were waiting for her to process my Groupon payment, so I asked a couple of questions about the family while we waited at the bottom of the stairs. When Joan was in the middle of explaining, the director (who was in another room) snapped at me and said, "If you'd actually give Joan a chance to explain, she'll get to what you're wondering about. So hold your questions until the end." It is like she mistook asking a question as an insult to the quality of the tour instead of interest and excitement in what Joan was talking about. In case you're reading this- a more gracious way to handle this would be: 1) Explaining before the tour begins to hold questions until the end. 2) A reminder to come from THE TOUR GUIDE using language such as "That's a great question. And we're going to talk about that more when we enter the children's room. So let me know if you have any more unanswered questions about the family at that time." They have some interesting events that happen throughout the year - and I'm contemplating attending - but frankly the thought of having a possible negative interaction (again) with the director might be enough to keep me from spending more money here.

She texted me with a number and gave me a name and so I called, half expecting to be asked for a secret password in order to have access to said shop. I thought I was totally cool coming in as a regular citizen "borrowing" a barber chair from the Walnut Street Theatre's prop shop. I thought I was definitely in the know and getting something no one else had access to. I was wrong. This prop shop rents out to anyone who needs the stuff. So if you're ever in the market for scenery, drops, furniture and props, this place has the goods. You'll also feel pretty slick renting from them because a) they're ridiculously affordable - $50 for my chair for a whole weekend - and b) they're tucked away in an unassuming and unmarked building in Port Richmond (so not everyone knows about it and if you're on Yelp you love shit that no one knows about).

Sure enough, never heard a whisper from the pawn shop, but I had also made a police report & when my serial #s pinged back at this pawn shop, they acted like they had no idea what could've happened, completely dodged the responsibility of contacting me, & then made me buy my stolen goods back (this is PA state law, and a flawed one at that, but still added insult to injury.) So I guess no big surprise that this is a shady af pawn shop, but if your items go missing, be aware that they may end up here & the people working here will lie to your face about it.

Between all of the First Friday art visits, culture doses of concerts and theater productions, and…read morejust stopping by to pay homage to the Isaiah Zagar mosaic exterior that I've done, Painted Bride is one of those places that I could have sworn I've interviewed years ago! But sometimes one spot manages to slips through my proverbial cracks, and Yelp manages to deliver a helpful reminder for me. And seeing how it came after I did social media for Rock to the Future during their annual Music For All Ball fundraiser, and splurged on a couple of their silent auctions, that reminder couldn't have come at a better time! and when it comes to all of the above that I listed above, dance parties, educational workshops and more; the Bride is a cultural phenomenon! Much like the case with Magic Gardens and all over South Philly, the irst time I came across Painted Bride I was instantly drawn to its exterior being a mosaic wonderland. And the interior was filled with works from all kinds of local artists and photographers that I'm happy to say that I've seen carry on for 5+ years running. For music I have glimpsed all kinds of jazz shows, music showcases from High Two Productions and other local music organizations, and dance events that tied in every facet of such a culturally eclectic venue. You can rent skis or snowboards for a day, a week, or for the whole season.
