"Longer than some of you have been alive," as our host and master of ceremonies reminded us last night. Yeah, if only. Now, when I say "cool companies," I am most definitely not talking about the auditorium here. Evidently, "HVAC Installer" is not a role that gets credited in the program at most smaller companies, so they never cast for it. Now, I get it. That's a toweringly massive expense for a small independent theater troupe. But, yeah, it was pretty warm and sultry in here on an August evening last night. But that's not what matters. What matters is the cool vibe they have set up, and how that feeds into the chances for artistic success. You walk up a couple flights of stairs clearly hammered together by capable volunteers, and find your way into a space that has done just enough to pull it all together: 100 or so seats in an intimate auditorium, exactly two seats in two very intimate unisex bathrooms, a highboy table to serve as the box office, and, most importantly, a large and welcoming bar. The prices on beer, wine, cocktails, and candy are very reasonable. The service is charming at every turn. Most importantly, the programming on the boards is adventuresome and ambitious. The Strange Misadventures of Patty, last night, was a very uneven play mounted with great enthusiasm and invention by the company. Marianna de Fazio was fantastic in the lead. Looking forward to seeing more productions here in the future.

It was…read morealternating with another play during it's run from mid Oct-mid Nov for ReAct Theatre: Seattle's Multi-ethnic Philanthropic Theatre. The play we saw was in the larger of the two theatres. Very intimate sitting not too big pretty sure everyone in the theatre would have a good view no matter where they sat. The company I work for actually help build the building so it was nice to actually go inside at least this part of the building. Definitely a wonderful venue. The lobby is nice and open and there are plenty of places near to grab a bite before a show.

Jen Ayer's performance was personal and passionate. In addition, her lovely voice and song lyrics were meaningful and told her story well. The rock band that accompanied her were equally talented and they, too, were passionate about the story. We felt very welcome from the time we entered and until the time we left. There was a real effort to greet everyone that entered. There also was a small bar and complimentary snacks.

I didn't receive any notification about the time change and arrived 10 minutes early to the time listed on my ticket and 20 minutes late to the show. I wasn't ushered in to the performance hall with any sort of direction, there was no acknowledgement of the mixup, I stood (in platform heels) for the entire show in front of a door and with a partially obstructed view, had to leave fairly unceremoniously due to the late show they squeezed in afterwards (presumably to sell more tickets) and to top things off they didn't have sparkling water when I tried to order it after the show, which is less annoying but was the cherry on top. Don't book with them.

Very relatable. Love me some train action. Didn't love the borrowed Catholic HS theater, but it'll do in a pinch. Enjoyed another fun play this past summer performed outdoors in a beautiful botanical garden on a warm evening sharing a picnic. That production, The Guardsman, was definitely entertaining & enjoyable, but less professionally polished, in a word, silly. For sure do recommend BAT in general for affordable, engaging productions. A plus that it's in the SW neighborhood!

I love the fact that just down the street you can go to a live show in a theater house that has that "this building has some stories it could tell' kinda smell to it. If you keep an eye out for them they often do a dinner and a show special with a neighborhood restaurant and you can get a really good deal for a date night.

There were about 110 people at the show and that filled the place up. Reservations are suggested. No drinks, but if you come early, there are three places next door that have drinks, food and snacks. Come early! Featured are root beer floats with Husky Deli ice cream (a local delicacy) and free range root beer. At least, that's how it's billed. Good sound quality, the great Wurlitzer organ during intermission. There are table side seats up front (cost a bit more) and row seating behind. Seniors get a discount. Fun night! Gypsy jazz is what brought us to Kenyon Hall…read more They call themselves "Ranger & the Rearrangers:" a five-piece band playing the kind of music you'd expect to hear in a Parisian cafe but with the spirit of a Gypsy campsite. It was an intimate and most charming performance sprinkled with humor and wanderlust. Formerly Hokum Hall, this non-profit vaudeville-toting venue was built in 1916 and is a neighborhood treasure. Rumor has it: Eddie Vedder played a "secret" show here once. But it's really a dear man named Lou Magor whose been at the helm of this performance space for decades. He's a warm, quirky character who doubles as emcee and master musician and brings a corporate hug to the whole experience. The decor, old framed photos, hardwood floors and (the pièce de résistance) a 1920s Wurlitzer pipe organ create all kinds of nostalgia from eras gone by.. and the tickets are affordable, too. Check out their website for upcoming shows (live music, drama, silent movies, poetry readings and more!) and see why Kenyon Hall is called "West Seattle's Lighthearted Entertainment Palace."
