Earlier this year my moms condition declined and we agreed to move her to memory care. We are now looking for a new facility. Since we moved her my moms care has been totally substandard. She is not being monitored to shower or undertake personal hygiene on a daily basis. When we visit she has dry towels and tooth brushes(which means no shower or teeth brushing) on a regular basis. We have found her toilet paper(which we provide) not restocked . She is frequently dressed inappropriately for weather. Half of her clothes are missing and other size inappropriate clothing in her closet that doesn't fit (Laundry is something we pay for). Filed complaint on 6/11 and administrator Tom Nolan has not responded as of 6/22. Avoid at all costs!!!

They entered as an alert and mobile resident. GH promises "you can age in place" but our loved one was forced out as they required more care in spite of the fact that fellow residents were wheel chair restricted and required all sorts of care. Our family was willing to provide 24/7 private care but still we were told we had to leave. GH is a non-profit with volunteer board that is supposed to oversee the organization. There are no terms of office for these trustees; they serve year after year, including the board chair who hired a for-profit management company, SLR which brought tensions. SLR yanked long-standing, resident-focused policies such as financial rent assistance if family paid in full for three years. Policy is gone. However, the board chair requested the admission of at least one resident with full financial assistance at the outset because this person was a friend of hers. There were four changes of Executive Director in the time we were there and at least as much as head chef in the kitchen and head of resident care/nursing. I do not believe there is an R.N. on staff. The facility is outdated. Several bathroom resident falls occurred due to outdated bathroom design. Apartment bathrooms are being updated now as residents vacate but it does not help families whose loved ones fell. Additionally, carpets on 2nd and 3rd floors are original to construction! Yet, the board sits on a hefty quasi-endowment and does nothing. Lastly, the organization was slow to respond to a gastrointestinal virus that initiated in their kitchen and spread throughout the community. Goddard is terrific for a resident who is independent, mobile and requires little care. Brookline is a great location because of its proximity to academic medicine, but if your loved one requires additional care as they age, you may need to leave GH or you might be one of the fortunate ones to be allowed to stay.

While we were trying to locate his whereabouts and contacting Atria they seemed unconcerned and disinterested in helping us. I hope no family has to go through the experience we went through dealing with this company. My recommendation is to look elsewhere for assisted living services.

Someone wrote complaining that the Jewish residents were upset by the food. That may be, I don't know. My mother loves the food! I've eaten with her many times, and while I wouldn't suggest Brightview for date night, the food is good and the staff are saintly about putting up with the frequent complaints from some of the residents about EVERYTHING. It is so ridiculous at times that you can't help but wonder if these folks are used to having private chefs prepare their food. Everything from the shape of the mugs to the temperature of the soup! It's important to remember this is a care facility, not a resort. Don't move there for the food! I find it shocking the way some of the residents talk to the staff. And they just smile and keep working. Saints I tell you, saints! Every single staff member at Brightview knows who my mother is by name. Every single staff member at Brightview will stop what they are doing to answer a question, point you in the right direction--whatever. They are very service oriented. They are also polite, friendly, and energetic. My mother can't remember anyone's name and she refers to them as "my darling girls who take care of me." I can't even express how it makes me feel to know Mom feels that way. It is gut wrenching having to tell your mother she has to be moved into a memory care unit--Mom shed a few tears, and didn't understand why. But now that she is there, she is doing just great. They have lots of activities, and she is now getting the help she needs with dressing, bathing, and other person care things. Memory care residents get 20 hours of one-on-one help per week. It's fabulous! Mom's apartment is beautiful. No kitchenette in memory care which has proved to be a blessing. She isn't obsessed with saving her half eaten lunch anymore, and the staff know she won't actually EVER eat food she takes out of the dining room, so she is discouraged from doing that. Her laundry gets done, her sheets get changed, and her apartment is cleaned. The facility itself (common areas) is spotless. Yes, it's pricey, but it's less than the other memory care facility in Canton, which seems to be perpetually full anyway. Maybe people don't know that there is another beautiful facility a few miles away with space that costs a little bit less? I do wish that caregiver "children" like myself were able to get the daily schedule of activities via email, so that I could encourage Mom to participate in the things I know she'd like. I think they're working on that as they were collecting email addresses recently. All in all, I am very happy with Brightview.

Most (not all) of the CNAs, or whatever they're called, are little more than rotating, hourly babysitters who do the bare minimum to get paid. They're not the kind of care givers who engage, stimulate or are happy to be around your loved one. Rather, they're the kind who check their phones, sit idly at a desk ignoring residents unless they're disruptive, and barely give these confused elders basic human kindness or attention - especially at nights and on weekends when management isn't around. I doubt they receive any special dementia training or even supervision. Look somewhere else if compassion and decency are important to you for your loved one living with dementia. This place overcharges and disappoints.

This privately owned facility is exactly what was needed for my struggling parents. Their one bedroom unit is comfortable and quiet. This facility is well maintained, clean, and so well run. They receive three wonderful meals a day all expertly prepared in house. Any maintenance issued are addressed immediately. The staff goes out of their way for both residents and their families. My parents receive laundry, housekeeping, medication prompting, and showering assistance. They can also take part in lots of activities and events to keep them busy. I highly recommend Grove Manor.

Floors rarely washed, toilets hardly touched except for a cursory wipe. The laundry rooms are dirty and the lint filter is always full, which is a fire hazard. Maybe staff should check occasionally? Speaking of staff, they are miserable, especially the front desk person. Change jobs if you hate it so much! On the upside, they have some good activities and the dining room staff are always pleasant. The food is decent too. With a bit of effort, this place could be great.
