Resume Writing I worked with David who was open, gracious and a great listener. He has worked in many facets of talent management so he knows what to highlight, how to write it and what approach to take. Despite having achieved quite a bit, I was unsure how to translate the value I bring on a resume in a way that connects with hiring managers. I spoke with David for 1 hour. He asked great questions. He heard me and CRAFTED a beautiful resume and cover letter. 24 hours after updating my LinkedIn I received an email from a recruiter. So this review might be late, but I do feel that my experience can be a cautionary tale to those who are seeking help during a time of desperation. I reached out to Dana in Sept 2019. She made me feel like this would be a great investment. I filled out their questionnaire for the resume + cover letter + LinkedIn package, and paid $750ish. I asked to not be matched with Allison (no real reason, just a gut feeling.) Against my wishes, I was matched with Allison. I decided to give her a shot. (Big mistake! Always trust your gut!) We scheduled a call, she basically talked out of her ass by talking herself up, being vague, and saying things we already know about the computer systems sorting through our resumes. I gave her ALLLL of my information and she said she would send me the first draft within a week. A week later, no resume. No response to emails or phone calls. Two weeks later, I finally get my first draft with spelling errors AND information errors. In her email, she claimed she sent it a week prior and doesn't know why I didn't receive it. I told her all the corrections she needed to make. She said she would have it back to me in a week. A few weeks later, I finally got it back. It came back with just as many, but different errors. I ended up moving forward to the cover letter, and making my own corrections to my resume on my own because I was getting annoyed with her lack of proofreading, time management, and communication. I had the same issues with the cover letter and decided I was done. After 2 months of this, I did NOT want to continue to a LinkedIn update with her, even though I paid for it. She never reached back out to finish the job. She just disappeared. I was so pissed off by this experience, I just wanted to wash my hands clean from this and accept that I wasted $750+ on this. I decided to finally share this now because I'm back to looking for a new job and fixing up my resume, etc. and I hope my experience helps you invest in yourself, and turn to Google/YouTube searches instead of getting screwed over like I did.

And oddly enough, I was really confronted by how difficult it was to explain exactly what I was doing overseas (it was Beijing and Shanghai) and how to position and present my accomplishments in a way that conveyed value to employers and potential clients. Fast forward a little bit - I moved back to NYC and started reaching out to old friends and colleagues. One of the people I reached out to first now had her own company and I was really wow'd by what I read on her website. I was immediately greeted with a compelling story about her company, her background, and exactly how she achieves dramatic results for her clients. It is clear and concise and most of all - it is compelling. While I was so happy for her, I felt even worse about myself. You see, the person I am talking about, used to work in a position that reported to me. Ugh... more evidence that I am in trouble. I called her and we met for coffee and I told her how thoroughly impressed I was and how truly proud I am of her. Then I asked for her help. She told me about this "career psychologist" named Eileen Sharaga. She explained a little bit about the process she went through with Eileen and how it allowed her to see herself in ways she never had before. She discovered her true values, what really matters, what were the issues that were blocking her from excelling at what she is best at, and so much more. She was able to pinpoint that going through Eileen's process was the thing that changed everything for the better for her. Introductions were made and I met Eileen and I was somewhat apprehensive at first. Not because of Eileen.. lets just say I approach most things with caution or with some skepticism. Within 15 minutes or so, I felt so incredibly comfortable, I lit up and let loose! There is something about Eileen that I cannot quite define. She is just "one of those people" who has this gift. She is truly special. I won't go into the details about her process, because I believe that it is customized to fit each persons individual needs, goals, and situations. It is something that you should discover yourself. I can say this, my friend who referred me to Eileen was exactly right. It wasn't about taking a personality test or other things of the like... anyone can take a personality test, but that's not was this is about. It is about Eileen's intuitive abilities to really get what people truly need, her ability to listen in a way that she is able to decipher what is genuine and matters, and combining those things with her extensive expertise, first-hand experiences, and her depth of knowledge, to produce something that is transformative. I wish I could describe it better.. some of the exercises or questions at times seemed a little silly, and yet later on I was able to see the importance of them. I wish I would have met Eileen decades ago because I would have been freed of so many things that were holding me back in several areas. I now understand so much. It really was wonderful to get to meet me for the very first time. Trust me, meet Eileen and make your own decision. She is petite and kind and you will immediately experience how interested she is in you and how much she cares. There is nothing threatening about her - just the opposite. Oh, by the way, I literally started to laugh out load after spending a few moments with Eileen. I was thinking about how truly silly some of the claims that were made in those two "negative" reviews. They acted like they lost the ability to make their own decisions or, I don't know, "forced" to continue their sessions? So so silly! You'll see for yourself. I had a number of amazing energy healing sessions with Linda that helped me to process concerns in…read morean intuitive and empathetic way. Together we went through some of my feeling-thinking-response patterns. These were ingrained from long ago and no longer had any relevance to my current life but were holding me back. Linda helped release these restrictive obstructions and integrate a more beneficial pattern of well-being and self-acceptance. I'm in the midst of my doctoral studies and worked hard on an evidence-based practice implementation which my raters found too technical. I knew I had to start from scratch and was very concerned about what project I should focus on for the remainder of my program. Things that would otherwise have pulled me off course, fell away. I have so many examples of this occurring and will mention two of the more notable instances. Years ago, I'd missed an opportunity to be inducted to an international honor society. The paperwork was time-sensitive and the opportunity had passed, by the time I recovered from an accident. I was invited again this semester but the university changed its email servers and the message got stuck, hidden in a junk file. A colleague who had also been invited, reached out to me suggesting I check through my mail. One week prior to the induction ceremony, I found the message and documents to be completed. Surprisingly, I received all of the necessary letters of recommendation from my references the very next day after I requested them. One dean actually showed up in my office to hand-deliver her recommendation to me. That new topic that I needed for my studies, which I was sweating over? Not only did one fall into my lap at my office, 10K to fund the research was granted from a health philanthropy. The primary investigator moved state before the start and the grant writer reached out for my expertise to coordinate data collection and analysis. The rater that frowned down my previous topic, graded me A's on my assignments and took part in the photo op at the honor society with me, the dean and my other inductee colleague. I'm busy doing a great deal of work on that project now with a small team to bounce ideas off of and help with tasks I don't have the bandwidth to take on. I did need help, and for some reason I thought the more money I spent, the better assistance I would get. Not the case! First off, Resume Strategists charged me 3,000.00 for a resume, cover letter and linked in profile because they said I was "mid career". The resume process took about a month. The way they worded some of my accomplishments definitely sounded better than what I had originally. However, the overall result was that I sounded like the most lowest common denominator Office clone. I sent out about 20 of their version and got ZERO response. I then went over my resume and noticed that I had a history of collaborating with different teams to accomplish projects. I bumped up my summary and added some more details and got ONE response. Resume Strategists FAILED to quantify or qualify any of my accomplishments (I did that and they didn't even ask for numbers) and they FAILED to see a pattern of cross-functional team collaboration and highlight that in the summary. Some of the resume revisions I could tell hardly any thought went into them at all. The linked profile? what a joke, just a regurgitation of your resume. The cover letter - they give you one final version. Frankly, the cover letter sucked. It was, again, my resume regurgitated. And the "career counseling" - is the most average, basic info that is easily found by doing an internet search. They do not have any inside knowledge or cutting edge information. And in the final meeting, we barely got into the interview questions because we went over on time. Which they promptly stopped at the allotted time because they had someone else to price gouge waiting. You don't work with Alyssa, who is touted on their website. I never even met her. And they have very nice full floor office in midtown Manhattan. Now I know why the price is so high! Gotta meet that overhead for the swank office. Knowing all I know now, this is how I would approach writing my resume. Having an objective person or more than one person look at it is valuable. So I would go to Craigslist where there are tons of people offering resume-writing for around $50 and hire 4 of them that stood out to me. When I had the four versions, I would sit down, google search for relevant key words and create my own resume using the material I already had. Summary: Resume Strategists is NOTHING SPECIAL and NOT WORTH 3,000.00!
