Aspen Tap House is a great place for watching any games. Has tons of TVs around and there's a party atmosphere usually going on. The prices are okay for portions. A location away from the campus craziness but it still can get loud. It's close to a few hotels, so it's a great place for travelers. The menu has about what one should expect, with shit tons of beers and many of these are local as well. Got a few good ones. It's about $7 a pint. Best we had of these was the White Oak Brewery selection #CharmingAF. This was refreshing and smooth. It's about $12 for the cheapest burgers. We each got the Black Bean Burger, which comes with guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream but I left off the last one. Also gets a choice of a side, so okay value for it. I got it with a salad. A lot of other meaty options available. They have tacos and the Impossible meat is an option. For sure it pretty much seems like Applebee's or some generic polished sports bar and grill but it's okay to be honest. It's located on Neil Street to the south of the campus stuff. There's meaty things as well as options for vegans and vegetarians.

Hubers is a townie bar, to be sure, but the best kind of townie bar: the staff is friendly, not surly, patient with noobs and the drinks are generous and cheap. They pour massive shots in tumbler glasses and offer big steins of domestic drafts for less than what a pint runs in Downtown Champaign. They serve food, which is stellar in its value, if not its uniqueness. Simple pub grub done well is the order of the day. They have a surprising variety of surprisingly good thin-crust personal pizzas for less than $4 and all the expected fried things. Popcorn is free and they will make more just for you. If I was serious about throwing darts, this is where I would come, as it is apparent they take it seriously at Hubers: there is an entire room dedicated solely to this and about 4 dozen trophies. There is ample parking in the rear, as well as a tiny semi-enclosed smoking area that is only a little bit less depressing than the smoking tanks at the Atlanta Airport. The decor inside is nothing special, but upon close inspection you will find echoes of the historic grocery that inhabited the structure in years past. An old-fashioned candy counter is at the front of the store and still in use. Hubers is a good place to watch sports, as while they do not have the biggest or newest TVs, they sure have a lot of them and are not shy about letting you tune in whatever suits you. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is they do not have very many of the "fancy" microbrews or imports that just about every place in Chambana stocks these days, and any that they do carry are likely old. This is a liquor and domestic beer joint. Also, like any neighborhood/townie bar, there is an alkie or two that may pass through, and this is not the place to meet chicks, or at least not he kind of chicks that you want to brag about on the Internet.

It's just noise. Reminds me of a techno club circa early 2000s. Bartenders (there were two) umm yeah. You can keep them. I could only stand about an hour and a half of this place. I feel sad for the LGBT community here. Saturday night and the best you have to offer is this group of unfriendly people. From the bartenders to the "DJ" upstairs. I ll never go back. No reason to. Just stay home. Seriously. I can see why it's dead on a Saturday night.

Also, as person hoping to make friends, it just doesn't (IMO) have the best atmosphere for that, partly because it's often pretty noisy. Not very conversation-friendly. In a previous life, I went to an incredibly friendly (straight) bar. No TVs, the occasional live band, but typically quiet, great for chatting. Was more of a hangout than a place to get tipsy. The bar tenders are okay, but they don't interact with customers much. Maybe they are just too busy. In my previous bar, the main bartender loved to chat with customers and that, I think, really helped ppl to open up and chat among themselves. And feel welcome. Yeah, one bar can't do everything. Just wish there was a more sedate hang-out place for queers that was compatible with conversation.
