I put my arm around my boyfriend's neck and was smiling and telling him something when the owner came over to tell us it was "inappropriate" behaviour and it was not that kind of place and we should stop. This was deeply humiliating as neither of us are teenagers anymore, we were not even kissing, no one was paying us absolute any mind and it has never, ever happened to either of us before. But most galling is that we were about a third of the clientele in the place, and making us so uncomfortable as to leave for something so petty was unbelievably bad business. Less than a 5 minute stroll from O'Connell St, in the summer it'd be lovely to get a salad to go at lunch time and eat it along the riverside. I imagine the menu will expand as the business does, as chef-cum-proprietor Carolanne is Ballymaloe trained and well travelled!
