It's been a while since I've been in Kells and recently this amazing little gem has popped up. From…read morethe outside it looks small, and I was concerned it wouldn't have enough seating space, but do not be fooled! There is a beautiful outdoor seating area that's been really well landscaped and put together. Lots to look at while you wait for your coffee. There is also a lovely bright converted upstairs with lots of seating and some comfortable sofas to boot. I really love the decor here. It's country style, but fresh and clean. It's a pleasure to dine here. Their menu has a really good selection of eats from sandwiches to full cooked lasagnas, you won't be left wanting. I decided to go with the Tuna Melt. Other members of my party also opted for sandwiches, the club sandwich looking particularly lovely. While I enjoyed my tuna melt, I was expecting a little better. The melt looked great on the plate (see attached picture) but looked more like mini pizzas to me. I think next time I'll be sure to ask for it as a sandwich instead. The club sandwich looked fantastic and the portions are excellent value for money. It would be a really great rival spot to the nearby Bective for evening food. I can only imagine their upstairs looking super romantic with candles and fairy lights. Why should you dine here? Support local businesses! The food is excellent value, the surroundings are wonderful and the staff are absolutely lovely. I'm looking forward to giving this place another try very very soon.

The Croquet Monsieur impressed me with its size and flavor. Pre-pressed, but warmed and cut before serving is how they arrive in their folded brown bag. Irish ham, cheese, and mustard lifted this sammie out the normal to excellent with the fresh-tasting combination of flavors on my tastebuds. Yum! The service was friendly, helpful, and professional. Their friendliness extended even to their invitation to join the town in cheering the home team in the upcoming Gaelic Football championship game!

The sides of roasted beets, feta cubes, and pumpkin seeds added the perfect balance of flavor and texture. My husband went for the BLT, which was packed with flavor -- beautifully toasted bread filled with crisp bacon, a perfectly cooked egg, and fresh salad greens. Everything tasted so fresh and thoughtfully prepared. They also have a great selection of coffees, which made the meal even better. Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and beautifully presented dishes -- can't recommend this spot highly enough!

We bought some fabulous North Irish Brie style cheese, magnificent local gin and a dozen rhubarb & honey cider at the festival. There were a number of talks through the day as part of the festival and the one that we attended had a cheese-maker (blessed are the cheese-makers) a cider maker (who says he is still trying to perfect apple brandy) and a chef from the Yellow door. We made a point of making the 25 mile journey to try the food in this place today. It's unremarkably located down a nondescript side street. All three of us chose the prawn on wheaten bread and it tasted superb. We were all delighted with our food. I opted for the soup & sandwich and opted for celeriac & parsnip and it was really superb too. Service was also very good but the young chap forgot to bring me a knife & fork. When I went to pay the bill I decided to try some of the takeaway food - I opted for sausage rolls and chocolate eclairs. The sausage rolls and eclairs became supper tonight. They tasted quite good, and were a decent portion size but I'd have preferred had they been better seasoned. The eclairs tasted rotten - really shockingly bad compared to everything else. I'm leaving my review at five star as everything else was so very good but I can't figure how a place that's so good with a great chef can produce something so bad.
