The pastries are gorgeous, and, for the calorie and coin counter, some are 'mini' versions of the usual-sized goodies (think: croissants, pain au chocos, and sows' ears--don't know what ya'll call 'em here) at a fraction of the price. The loaves of bread (challah, white, wheat, light rye) seem to come both bagged and unbagged. The bagels are displayed in open baskets out on the floor and appear to be sold singly. Help yourself...to a pair of tongs! I was surprised and happy to see the tongs. Too bad there weren't any judiciously placed near the unbagged loaves. I stood next to a man who picked up around five separate loaves of wheat (and one bagette) in both hands in order to caress their middles and squeeze gently on their crusts. At one point it looked as if he were going to bring a loaf up to his ear. I expect he was hoping to hear the ocean. After all the fingering, he actually bought one! I bought a small, bagged rye loaf for £1.55. After watching the 'Bread Whisperer' do his thing on the wheat loaves, I left the naked bagels untouched. I'll be back, however, for some Hammentaschen and mini sows' ears!

Sure, there's the standard Egg Mayo with Cress and a Pret Pickle and Smoked Salmon, but once you get past the standards, there are some really great sandwiches in that cooler. Try the Red Pepper Tapenade & Soft Cheese or the tasty Crunchy Humous Bloomer or even a Sweet Chilli Crayfish & Mango Bloomer. I really love their salads, especially the No Bread Crayfish & Avocado since I'm on a low carb eating regime. It's just.. delicious. As for the coffee, I find Pret to be better than the Starbuckses of the world. First, it's organic milk. And second, it's just better roasted. It always seems to taste better to me. Did I mention it's also inexpensive. Sandwich, drink and bag of chips (they have some very unique flavors) is under £8. There are a couple of Prets in the Canada Square shopping centre, but the ones I have patronized are all the same. Take-away only with no seating and no free wifi of their own. Which is fine because the Canada Square wifi usually works okay.

The atmosphere is really nice and there's plenty of seatings - big community tables, small tables and high-tables that allow you to look out of the window. The place is also family friendly with a change table across the toilet and toys around the eating area. On my first visit, I had one of the best hot chocolate I've ever had. The eggs benedict was a decent portion size and satisfying on a cold winter day. The day right after I couldn't help but go there again and had a generously filled smoked salmon crepe filled with cream cheese. Definitely will make this a local fav of mine!

Little tip - if you taking your sandwich away (this may apply to eating in too, but I've never done that) order your sandwich at the counter where they are making them, get a ticket then go and pay.

They seemed lost in thought occasionally. The combined bill for the five of us came to around £27 which I thought was very reasonable. I do want to visit Pumblechooks again.
