We went to the wedding tasting and I was underwhelmed. We paid a deposit anyways and planned use her despite being underwhelmed because the cake was our least important thing. However, we decided to cancel our wedding and elope in another country, thus no longer needing a wedding cake. I called her to let her know, didn't ask for our deposit back even once, although she made sure to repeatedly tell me that the deposit is non-refundable. I never asked for it. Instead, I asked to apply my $75 deposit towards a birthday cake for my son instead. She said I would just have to pick it up no later than our originally planned wedding date. No problem. His birthday was the same weekend anyways. About a month before I was supposed to pick the cake up, I got a phone call telling me I hadn't shown up to a design session, but I had nothing on my end saying I was ever scheduled. I had canceled the original session, and the day she called me wasn't even close to the original date, so I was very confused and apologized because I thought that maybe I had made a mistake. Fast forward to yesterday, I called to see if my cake was ready for pickup, as I like to confirm things before wasting my time and gas. She told me that "all cakes for today are ready" but never even asked my name or tried to confirm my cake was there. I hung up with her a little surprised by her lack of professionalism but still trusted that she was on top of things. The next day, today, I went to pick up the cake and she didn't have it. In fact, she didn't have any of my paperwork or anything. I had to call my fiancé to have him send me a photo of our original paperwork (which I didn't bring because I was no longer picking up a wedding cake). Eventually, she found my original order attached to someone else's order. She said that we have the same initials and she must have mixed them up. To me, that's just poor observation skills. So there I was, picking up a cake that wasn't made but "lucky" for me she had a 1/4 sheet chocolate cake in the back she would ice and write on. Knowing that this was pretty much my only option at this point, I went with it. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. My deposit was $75, the cake actually cost $45, and I bought 2 number candles for $8.50. I was very overcharged for this plain, ugly cake and was still charged for the damn candles. Never again will I recommend this bakery. I had wanted to support a local, woman-owned business, but I can't in good conscience support this one. She's disorganized, rude (she told a customer in front of her brand new employee that she wasn't good at using the register -- the look on that poor girls face broke my heart), and doesn't pay attention to important details, which is why this mess happened. I've attached a photo of the cake I got. I'm giving 2 stars because she did, at the very least, provide me with a chocolate cake.

The cookies themselves are small and soft... yet the icing is also soft and the ratio of cookie:icing is perfect! The normal sized cookies are always very cute- well decorated. Again- the icing is soft and delicious! I'm not a fan of royal icing, which is what most places around here use to decorate their pretty cookies. I LOVE the fact that NCH uses buttercream. Without a doubt, I believe their cookies are far superior to any other bakery in Cincinnati. The cakes are so tasty, of course including the cupcakes. I love the variety of flavors they always have in their cupcakes. And then... there's the pastries! I'll just say- I've never had a bad one! This place is amazing! The only bad part is how crazy it can get in the small space, but it's for the love of the sweets. So I can't fault that.... I love walking into bakeries and trying the goods. I've tried all the chains around Cincy (Servatii, Buskens, graeter's). I've tried the non-chain bakeries (BonBonerie, Bonomini, etc). I've gone to Sugar Rush multiple times- so I feel familiar with the competition. NCH bakery is my favorite- because it has never let me down.

Luckily, we were both completely on the same page. We even decided to have a dessert table for our wedding favors, and they were a huge hit. They provided a lot of guidance for numbers, what guests generally like, did setup and the cost was affordable. We had (deep breath) cake balls, buckeye balls, ginger molasses cookies, sugar cookies, cake balls of a number of flavors, cupcakes (instead of wedding cake) of whatever flavors we asked for (chocolate peanut butter, lemon, chocolate raspberry, white, etc), some pumpkin flavors.... these delicious mint things... I'm probably missing some stuff, but the desserts were a highlight of our reception for us (we both love our sweets) and for our guests. We're also fans of the black raspberry chip Graeters flavor, and they did a wonderful version of that for our own cake for the cake cutting. I believe everything is made in-house (including their own fruit/other flavorings) and you can tell in the vibrant flavors. As is always important for a business that interacts with stressed wedding couples, they responded quickly to emails, were to the point, friendly and were adaptable while adding their expertise to the evenings plans. Can't recommend them enough, and my husband is already bemoaning that we live out of town and can't have their creations on a regular basis.
