I got the sense the gent cutting my hair kept dissuading me from my requests. For example, I asked to take a bit off the top, to which he replied, brother the top looks fine I wouldn't touch it. I asked for a higher blend on the sides and he said, "trust me, you don't want to go too high." At this point I was pissed and wanted this to just end. In the US, when you say you want it cut a certain way, they cut it that way. Homeboy over here has seemed to forget that it's my hair, not his, so, I really don't care how you want it cut! I paid and jet out there quicker than you can say Peace out! 37 pounds for 10 minute clean up, No Thank you. I don't recommend this place. There are plenty of barbershops in and around London and Shoreditch that won't stop cutting your hair until you are satisfied.

No fuss, no coffee, no tea (I'm simply not in there that long) but you do get a lively line in friendly banter for the first and last few minutes, with the desired focus on your follicles in between. Also I find the opening hours really help when you work 45 minutes away and have a busy lifestyle/Saturday lie-in.

The proprietor thinks he knows better and asks me if I'm Chinese - I say no. He looks confused, but says, I give you best hair cut for a Chinese. I mean, what's my race got to do with what I ask for. He says, your hair, short back no good. I say, I want it that way. We carry on with this sort of banter back and forth and he gives me a short back and sides, and I say, just trim a little off the top and blend in the sides. Nope, he just takes a scissors to my hair and just goes for it. I now look like a toilet brush just in time for a Yelp event this week. Also, one of the roughest barbers I've been to. I assume someone's going to think I'm a prissy pants for not manning up, but this guy wouldn't listen and just plain rough. Don't go here if you respect how you look. What an awful place. There was an extra barber chair when I walked in and they immediately sat me down with no wait time. I was surprised to feel so welcomed by them and no awkward feeling despite being a stranger. Even after giving only a vague idea of what I wanted, the barber immediately went to work. I can't remember his name because it wasn't one I had heard before but he ended up eventually settling in London after a long journey via the Netherlands as a war refugee from Iraq in the 90's. The haircut was quick and efficient, and they waxed my ears which was a strange experience, but overall I felt like I came to the right place. If I lived in the area I would definitely come again.

I observed during my time in the shop that there was no rush but no waste of time either -- if a cut and a shave took 30 minutes or more to do right, then it took the guys 30 minutes or more to do; if it took 15 minutes to do right, then it took the guys 15 minutes to do. It's nice but not fancy, friendly but not obnoxious, and inexpensive but not cheap. I'll be back!
