Moe is great. However, my last appointment with him was disappointing. I booked it a few days in advance. When I walked in, he asked if I minded if his coworker cut my hair this time. I was caught off guard, but figured he double booked or something. Sadly, that wasn't the case. He sat and waiting for his next appointment. In addition, I was very unhappy with the haircut his coworker gave me. He went way shorter than I asked and barely used scissors. All electric clippers. I visited Moe for the first time today. I'm very particular about my hair. It's really difficult in this day and age to find a hair stylist that is equally good with the shears as they are with the clippers. Moe is that guy. He's a wizard and he's super quick and efficient. No movement is wasted. I showed him a picture of a good cut I had once before and he replicated it perfectly but did it better. He's a little more expensive than a typical barber shop but he's worth every penny. I'll be going back for sure. read more

Went based on reviews. Just moved to the area, there are a TON of barbers and salons along the main strip. This had the top score! I got the 8pm appointment, not sure if this was why my experience was so bad. I went in expecting a slightly standoffish man based on reviews. I got it. There are some barbers that look like they love what they do, and some that look like they hate what they do, and want to put a bullet in their head yet found a niche to provide for themselves and family so are sticking with it. I would definitely put him in the latter. Now he wasn't a cruel man once you got him talking, but also you felt like he did NOT want to be there. That's neither here nor there for a haircut. I specifically told him about 2 trouble areas on my head to stay away from, and that I wear my hair the way I had walked in. I cringed as I heard the buzzers go over these spots. Seeing my life flash before my eyes, and my life ruined for the future month. The soft sound of an evil laugh ringing through my head - was it actually audible, or in my brain? If you're going to rush the haircut job and just do whatever the F you want, you better be a haircut DEITY and know exactly every hair you are cutting and that it matches the style the patron wants. 10 minutes later after the haircut, I walked out with my head looking just like a random thing he came up with. Long stray hairs that weren't cut, and the places that weren't supposed to be touched, shaved off. Three weeks later I am still having to gel down spots to fix hair that I knew would stand straight up. The guy just went straight to buzzing the exact area I said would stick up. I curse his name every morning. I thought after 3 weeks I would have cooled down, and then I could write my review. No. My bathroom voodoo doll of him is still stuck with a pin every morning / given a swirly in my toilet. I have to fix my hair every morning for an extended time. PROBLEM SUMMARY: 1) Didn't stay away from spots I told him to, created his own haircut on my head against directions, not my style. 2) There were two long strands of hair completely missed on the side of my head... Wtf? More than one pass would have helped there. Especially for the price. 3) This hair cut was 32 dollars. $32 f'in dollars for a haircut that was rushed in 10 minutes, missed hairs, cut areas he wasn't supposed to touch, and added 20 minutes to my morning routine every day to fix his shit. Screw that, I'll try another location, or make the 30 minute drive to my old Cut&Blend in Billerica where they spend 40 minutes on you for $16 and you come out not balling your eyes out like a little girl, collapsing in the crosswalk screaming at god. read more

I hesitate to write a good review here so I can have Hal to myself. But, for the good of mankind, I'll give you my two cents. You cannot go wrong heading to Hal's. He does a great job, takes his time. I don't ever feel like he's rushing to get to the next person. It's just him in his shop. I get compliments on my hair. One of the biggest things is that your hair actually grows out evenly. No weird long areas, nothing. If you go to a place like Supercuts, you have to get your haircut every three weeks because you start to look like a mental patient. Not at Hal's. Just grows out nice and even. He's a good guy who loves doing what he does and it shows - both on him and on your head. read more

Waited around for him to take a smoke break, he comes back in and points to the chair covered in last client's hair and barely has the care to use a dryer to clean up the seat. I sit down, think about my choice to be there and quickly say "I'm good". Hair is personal and from the reviews I thought Moe was a caring barber who took pride in his craft. First time seeing Hal today after mulling over a few options for longer than necessary. I'm one of those guys who has fussy hair and I usually have to coach the barber/stylist through the cut. Not with Hal. I told him what I was looking for and showed him a single reference photo, and he went right to work. I don't think I've had my hair cut more efficiently and yet with as much finesse. There was a moment where I thought "maybe he's rushing?" and then I realized he was just a complete pro and knew exactly what I wanted and what he needed to do. We got to know each other pretty quickly, and before I knew it, my cut was done and it was better than I could've imagined! When I lived in Clinton, I found Hal by accident. That was 8+ years ago. Since then he has a great place in Hudson. Parking for the most part is great and it is free. As far as haircuts go. THE BEST!!!. I had gone to another stylist when he is on vacation and regretted it. Now if he is gone for 2 months. I will be very shaggy but So worth every penny. He is great and his wife a so nice. Hal is clearly one of the best mens hair stylist in the area. He is so precise and takes extreme pride in his work. I started with Hal over 10 years ago when he was cutting hair in a mall salon. He broke out and started his business and now my two boys also get their haircut from Hal. He is friendly, is great with kids and his prices are very fair for the great job he does. He's super friendly and has a very clean and professional small business in the center of Hudson, MA so the parking is really easy. I brought my 13 month old son in for a haircut. I debated taking him to a chain salon because it was on a whim and we were trying to find a walk in place. I thought to myself that I really would prefer supporting our local businesses so we gave Hals a shot. I called and Moe said we could come right in. He did a great job on my sons hair cut- buzzed the long stuff off and trimmed what he could. Obviously given my sons age there was no shampooing and he couldn't give him a line up because he was too squirmy. I was thrilled with the haircut until we checked out and he charged me $27!!!!! TWENTY SEVEN EFFIN DOLLARS. I ran into my brother on the street who told me he's been going there for years and that's what he is charged for his big adult head including shampoo and a line up. No way is that an acceptable price to buzz and trim a tiny head for 10 minutes. I almost didn't even want to give a tip because of the price but I could never stoop to that level so all said and done it was $31.00! So while I would love to support my local business, my wallet doesn't and unfortunately that will keep us from going back. read more
