First time here. I like the vibe of this place. It's kinda like your local bar meets....Orleans? I didn't know Orleans had a Barley Mow, so I was shocked that this place had major downtown party vibes. I was living for it!!! Maybe its not like that every night, but they were showing the basketball game on the "big screens" so the place was hopping! Definitely had a great time here, and the company I was with made it even more enjoyable. Service was great and attentive. I ordered a small poutine (cheapest thing on the menu $7), I was there to drink mostly, not to eat. I also ordered a moscow mule ($10) and a somersby cider ($8ish dollars). I might just be cheap, but the prices were pretty high for a pub. When I found out the moscow mules were 10 bucks, I switched to cider. I looked over the dinner menu and it was hard to find anything under 10 bucks. Sometimes its nice to get a couple of apps, but doing that would have cost a pretty penny. Having said that, I did enjoy myself, and I think the place is a great spot for the locals. read more

We were a big group and no one enjoyed their food. The pho was awful and the mushroom burger tasted like vinegar. The only vegan menu item was unavailable. We were not informed of an additional charge for half salad and half fries with the burgers. All in all, I can't say we would ever visit a Barley Mow restaurant again. read more

My wife and I stopped in for supper this evening and I just had to pass along our comments. Our Host Andrew (can't call him a waiter, that's almost demeaning...), was attentive, courteous and ridiculously personable. His suggestions were on point and very helpful. He was also a very entertaining conversationalist. I had the prime rib dinner, while my wife enjoyed the carrot and red pepper soup, along with an appetizer of deep fried cauliflower bites. The prime rib was one of the best I have ever enjoyed and the portions generous. The soup and cauliflower bites were equally good. To round it all off, we split a deep-fried banana and cheesecake dessert, a new item on their menu which came with a generous dollop of whipped cream. In keeping with the rest of our meal, it was excellent. Long story short, we were both very happy that we decided to drop in this evening. The service, the food and the ambiance were well above par. This location of The Barley Mow (a chain) is in a small outdoor mall complex - what I might call a strip mall, except there are a few stand-alone buildings, including the Barley Mow restaurant. Had heard that the chain was decent, so, while out looking for a place to spend an hour before picking up The Son, headed in here. The feel of the room is good - warm wood tones, stained concrete floors. Signs of wear - but they're good signs of wear that give a nice patina to a place, as opposed to wear that shows neglect. So that's good. Since we'd never been there before, ordered appetizer platter. Honestly, a little disappointed. Stuffed potatoes were cold and kind of dried out. Cheese sticks were mediocre. Spring rolls were ok, but nothing special... and it goes on from there. Service was fine. No complaints, but also not remarkable. Beer choices were ok - nothing remarkable. They do have some great daily specials - for example (at this time) $5 fish and chips all day. Now - that's only a bargain if it's good! However, price appears fantastic, so we'll likely go check out the specials to see if there is one day of the week that's perhaps a great deal... or not. And we will probably do that at one of the locations closer to our home. I'm not completely writing off this place yet, though it's unlikely I'll return to this location. Would I recommend? Not at this time. Would I return? I probably will try the chain again, for the specials - but I am unlikely to return to this location, as it's out of the way for me, and it wasn't good enough to make the drive. read more

Love this place. Always such a blast. Service is great, the food is great and the drinks are better. I go here a few times a month with a girl friend, and we truly enjoy our time . We have fun with all the people who work there and the customers. They actually have some pretty cool hats they are selling! Love the army one. Bonus for families. . Kids eat free on Sundays! My hubby and I brought our toddler son here for breakfast! Was happy to see not busy so wont wait long......wrong!!! For whatever reason there was only one waitress working although she asked multiple times how things were the wait for our order was ridiculous!! We ordered the hangover which would have been super delicious had there been 90% LESS salt (and I like salty snacks)! The biggest disappointment was when we got our bill and found that the absolutely discusting coffee was not included in our meal and was a $2.25 charge per coffee! Unlimited refills but it was sooooo gross that I didn't drink half the cup let alone want a refill!!! If you are in no hurry and stay away from the coffee the place is not too bad! Little pricey but not the worst! read more

The service at this Barley Mow is atrocious. I went with a group of 6 people for one of their $2 Caesar Sundays. For something they do every Sunday, they seemed extremely unprepared for the high demand. It took around 20 minutes each time we ordered a Caesar, and the waitress we had put everyone's drinks on one bill without asking, so that we all had to try and remember how many we'd each had so we could pay. Our waitress also delivered the food with no cutlery, which we also had to wait forever for, and it took her about another half hour to then sort out our bills since we were all paying separately. Sadly this place was very disappointing. My family and I came here for our Easter dinner, definitely regret it and wished we went somewhere else. The service wasn't terrible, our server was really nice but it was nothing memorable. To start we ordered zucchini sticks and spinach dip. Zucchini sticks were pretty good, not greasy and it was fresh. The spinach dip...not so great. I was looking forward to the dip so badly! The dip was basically a very VERY bland cheese dip with giant uncut pieces of spinach with stems tossed in. It pretty much tasted like something a college student would make with what ever food was left in his/her fridge.For dinner, my mother and I got the curry chicken dinner. The plate looked very nice and it had a generous serving, my only complaint about that was that the carrots where undercooked. My mom did seem to enjoy her food but found the curry too spicy and wasn't able to get extra coconut milk because the cans are pre portioned for a specific serving. My father got the tipsy chicken, he likes the taste but found the meal too dry for something that was supposed to be a stew. None of us ended up finishing our meals because it was just a big disappointment. Unfortunately I will not be coming back to this restaurant. The prices are way too high for the amount of effort that is put in to the dishes, definitely a lack of passion from who ever is making the food.I guess this place isn't too bad if your are only getting drinks, but I wouldn't recommend it to friends and family. read more

This is our go-to pub, since we live right down the street. To preface, I've only ever eaten there once, but have been there for drinks countless times. The one time I ate at the Barley Mow, the food was good / exactly what I would expect from a pub. I got the quesadilla, which was fine. I have a food allergy that I made the server aware of and she was very attentive to that detail, which I appreciated very much. For example, she made sure to let me know she had double checked when the food was up to make sure the food was safe for me to eat. We usually end up at the Barley Mow on Friday or Saturday nights, when they have live music. The music is usually quite good, usually kind of folkey. The beer selection is pretty standard. It's always ice cold 100% of the time (warm beer is my pet peeve, so this is important for me!) The service. This is where they lose a star with me. It's really hit or miss. Sometimes we end up waiting forever and sometimes we get a really attentive server. They're always super nice and friendly, but I think they would benefit from hiring a few extra servers and bartenders. If you already live in Orleans, I would recommend hitting up the Barley Mow, but I wouldn't make a special trip for it. read more

I won't make any complaint about the food that was really good, and for the amount of people in the restaurant for a Thursday the timing was good. BUT what was bad was the service! We walked in and waited at the door for a good five or so minutes ... Free tables all around us, and no employees in sight nor a sign to let us know if we should wait or if it is seat yourself sort of deal. Once we were finally seated, the server did not make an appearance for 15 minutes for our drink order, had no recollection of the beer on tap (which I believe every server should know). Once we made our drink order it took for ever to get them, and by that point we were ready with our orders. I felt the server was rude never once checked in or came to ask for a refill of our drinks. I used to dislike going to this place and recently have been a few times and they've really upped their game. It used to be the food was super expensive and it seems they have reworked their pricing and always have good specials going on. I especially like Thursday nights for 1/2 price wings when you buy a drink (doesn't have to be alcohol) and so for $7.50 + the cost of your beverage of choice you get a big plate of wings and fries. They change their menu seasonally I think so always have new stuff coming and going and they seem to be really putting an effort into making the place a hot spot. It certainly is quite busy on Thursday nights both for the wing special and for Football right now because they also have lots of TVs. My husband and I went there for a date-night on their special day, all you can eat chicken wings. We also ordered Nachos for entree. It took way too long, totally unprepared. And there was an elastic band in the nachos. We show the waitress and stopped eating that dish, and very cautious on our main dish, watching out for another unedible-stuff we might see in our foods. At the end, they didn't charge the nachos, but frankly, it ruined completely our appetite, and we regretted for our time as well read more

Place was nearly empty. Only a half dozen people standing at the bar. Despite that it took a full 53 minutes for a standard hamburger with plain old french fries to get to my table. When it finally got there it was the mushroom bacon burger. Wrong! Server was apologetic for the delay and I didn't want to wait another 53 minutes for my burger. Went here with hubby and daughter (2 years old) on a Sunday for dinner after we'd been at an afternoon event and didn't feel like cooking. I'd heard that kids eat free there on Sundays, so we thought it was worth a try. The place wasn't very busy, though it was only about 5:30-6pm. We ordered a kids meal for the little one -- your standard chicken fingers and fries, which she happily ate along with a chocolate milk served in a fun plastic cup that we took home afterward. She was given crayons for the paper kids menu which is always appreciated. I ordered the pub curry which was delicious. I thought the $17 price tag was a bit steep, but when I saw the size of it, I was silenced. It was massive with a very hearty serving of deliciously tender chicken, in addition to rice, naan, chutney. It was really very tasty. My only complaint was that the menu touted seasonal vegetables, which I believe ended up being just carrots. As a vegetable lover, this was a let down. I took a huge serving home and it was ample for lunch the next day. Hubby got the malaysian chicken bowl which sounded and looked a lot better than it tasted, in my opinion. He seemed content but not overly impressed. I think the next time, he'd opt for my curry. Overall, it was a nice dinner. It's always nice not to pay for the kids meal since you don't always know if they'll even eat it. The serving sizes were quite large, and the food was rather good. My friend recommended this pub , she mentioned food are great and they have alive music. That should be our Friday night out. The atmosphere and decor was lovely, and it felt like we'd taken a step into an old friendly pub. After waiting for a little bit, we were placed in a corner which was cozy and seated close to fireplace, it was worm and nice . For about 15 minute, the service was kind slow, and that's a good thing in this case , we did not mind it at all. We were waiting a really long time for our meals, and finally when we got them I found out that my meal it was a quite spice and I asked to not be, any way I eat a few bites and I decided to bring home rest of my meal. I ordered a Pub Style Curry, Chicken breast and vegetables simmered in a mild garlic & coconut milk curry served on a bed of basmati rice with house salad( not been served) and garlic naan bread ( not spice) After a few bites .. I felt not exactly how I like to feel when being served at a restaurant. Around 10 pm blond waiter came and she asked if we are done, yes we agreed with that and she grabbed my portion not asking me if I want to bring home, I run after her letting her know that I haven't eaten almost anything and I do want my portion to bring home, it was too late she already throw my portion to garbage. She was so nice and she mentioned that the cook with make the new portion and will bring to my table I was so happy with that and I mentioned to my friend that waiter was so nice. They brought me a new portion and paid and give to her a little bit more than 10 % tip, I thought she deserved it I went home and day after early in the morning I opened package and you can see what they gave to me I am totally disappointed, how is that happened Not worth the rating!! We just came from The Barley Mow and the food and service was great! It was our 4th time having dinner there and we have always had good service and good food. When we don't want to cook this is our go-to pub. We have a toddler so we usually end up going early so service is always prompt and friendly. The food and beer selection is pretty good. They went through a patchy time there where their food wasn't particularly good but in the last year they've picked back up quite a lot. They've actually become one of the better restaurants in the area. Friday nights when everywhere else has a line-up (6:00pm-ish) they tend to be able to seat us immediately. There's no doubt we'll return repeatedly in the future. read more
