Loved the place, there was a pool, spa and BBQ. The apartments were exceptionally clean and had ample room for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Management were awesome and the price of accomodation was very reasonable. read more

Well, if this place is budget then I certainly want to find similar options elsewhere. It was great, and not only that but it has pretty much all the facilities that you could expect from the place - pool, spa, restaurant, laundromat, and some quite large play areas as well. The other thing was that my room was huge, and I mean huge. I thought I would be paying through the nose for something like this, but I didn't have to pay one cent more. Sure, it was probably because it was off season, but a part of me felt that there was not such thing as off season when it came to the Gold Coast.

There was a cockroach that came in my room, but the staff took care of it. They said that they try to control that by having people keep food out of their rooms. Staying here you are perfectly located to take full advantage of all the attractions in town. Every room has a view of the beach and the staff is very attentive. Every weekend there is a party and a live DJ in the bar and pool areas. During the week it is pretty mellow and more suited to family time. The hotel is in pretty good shape but is a bit worn. The Mexican food from the Restauraunt is delicious and plenty. I had the chicken tacos last night and they were fantastic. Everybody was raving about their dinners. They tend to the pool and pool area so the pool is very clean and area tidy. I recommend staying at Komune.

At the time, I was given an…read moreexcellent rate for a studio room by receiving a discount for being one of the over 2100 victims involved in a then-recent accommodation company's bankruptcy on the Gold Coast. The Mantra and Breakfree properties were kind enough to offer a discount on bookings, as many people had to wind up rebooking accommodations as a result of this incident. This was much appreciated! As I arrived at the property at around 11:30 a.m., my studio room was not yet ready. The reception staff was very kind and allowed me to store my luggage until check-in. I could tell right off that this property stays very busy, which is never a bad sign. It was great to be able to explore the area until later on in the afternoon. The Mantra is in a perfect location right on the Marine Parade, centrally located to just about everything. Not to mention some of the best surf breaks in the world! Everything in the studio room, which turned out to be room 208, was in excellent working condition with no excessive wear. I did have some trouble with the wireless internet connection after I had prepaid for three days, but I cannot fault the Mantra for this, as the internet company is separate. Turns out I was able to get a partial refund with no problems. It seems like it took the hot water about two seconds longer to get hot in comparison to some of the other properties I had stayed at on this holiday, but it wasn't a big concern. Some of the amenities in the room included a powerful air conditioning/heating unit, fully-stocked kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave, utensils, and just about everything one would need for a holiday. Ample closet space, queen size bed, a medium-sized balcony overlooking the courtyard (unfortunately all of the one bedroom ocean view apartments stayed constantly booked up until my arrival, but I did try!), a small ceiling-mounted television set, and a bathroom with a washer and dryer. The swimming pool, spa and barbecue areas were very modern and well-maintained. I'd definitely stay at the Mantra Coolangatta Beach again. My only regret was not being able to find a vacant ocean view unit, but I'll definitely be back. Great staff, good waves, and an overall fun area.

Mind you, I'm probably in the minority considering that this place certainly does seem to be pretty popular, but I guess it's location just a short walk from the beach (across a part) does help. My room had the two small (realllll small) twin bedside the bathroom and open closet attached. We also had our own tv and DVD player and balcony sliding door. I loved it. We had an awesome view of Coolangatta beach. The main room has a small couch and a leather chair, so not really inciting if you had a family or 4/5 here to sit down and watch tv. There is a huge round table to seat everyone. Kitchen was clean and they had appliances and cups and things. I did use their toaster for morning tea and it works! Didn't have any of the free tea though. There was 4 sliding doors to lead out to your own huge and long balcony! The master bedroom was a bit small, not much space to walk around if you had a suitcase on the floor. And the bathroom was across the way, not too far, and it had the tub and a stand up shower. Good for babies who still take baths. And the washing and dryer were inside this bathroom. Why it doesn't get 4 stars is cuz of the musky smell upon entering. It smelled a lot like urine and just old air. As soon as we put on the AC it got rid of it. So I would recommend that the hotel staff leave the AC on, a high temp so it's not too draining, and it'll help get that smell out. The rooms all had ceiling fans too. Lovely touch.

They offered 30 minutes free. Very misleading. I wouldn't have booked the hotel if this was the case when so many other places have unlimited complimentary WiFi. Pros: Location is great. Right across the from the beach with access to lots of places to each/shop. Additional cons: cleanliness. Mold and mildew in the bathroom. Room wasn't refreshed at all durning stay. Overall- Fail. We checked in just after 11pm and the night reception staff was so lovely... Staff in any hotel that work the night shift are not normally accommodating to say the least, so big congratulations to the gentleman working the front desk, you sure made us feel welcome. The accommodation is comfortable, nothing too flash, but hey, you get what you pay for. What you are getting is a supper comfy bed and no bed bugs!! (I've had bed bugs in 5 star hotels so this is something I always check for) and reasonable sized room. The pool is shallow, but this is fantastic for relaxing and with kids, and remember the beach is right across the road (massive bonus). There is undercover secured parking and ample space to pull up out front whilst checking in. To be honest, you are getting a great location for a very reasonable price. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Rooms are a bed only, with only a few communal toilet/shower combos for the whole place. The crowd I ran into were mostly pleasant backpackers from around the world. The air conditioning was broken in my room, and the light dim, but everything else was in good condition, and the communal kitchen was kept clean. Downstairs is a lively bar and sports tab that seems like one of the choice spots in town for a Saturday night. In all, Sands was a decent spot to spend a night.
