We had Lemon Drizzle Cake and coffee outside. Raad nr Foillan path is a couple minutes from the cafe so grab a short walk before or after if you have time. It was crispy, soft like pudding and a bit sweet. I opted for the tuna panini which was terrific. I read it came with chips which I figured were fries but got actual potato chips which was fine I guess. Michael said his All Day Breakfast was spot on except for the sausage which he described as cheap or watery. The other lads said there's were fine and devoured it spite being hung over. Before breakfast I asked to walk past the gates to witness the sprawling fields. I was welcomed with a bit of apprehension and took a few photos as you may see. Apparently no one asks to go back into the farm. I breathed in the cool air and appreciated the beauty of the English horizon. I was met by the owner, Bill Williams, in a tractor who stopped me to have a bit of a chat. He is a funny man when he said the view was "alright" and there wasn't much to see. I learned the farm was 400 acres and how he had a kick travelling the California coast line several years ago. When I return to Chester I will be sure to come back and eat here and say hello.

Interior is a bit shabby chic and very cozy. The servers were all very pleasant Welsh ladies that helped answer some questions I had about the menu. I had a mug of tea and a Buck rarebit toast. The toast came with a small side salad and a poached egg. It was just perfect. I've never had rarebit before, but if this is the norm, I would love to have it again. There are a bunch of other items on the menu that would be perfect for breakfast or a light lunch as well. I left extremely pleased with my meal. Oh, and the best part was, prices were extremely fair. For about 6GBP, I left feeling I could easily conquer the climbing of every tower in Caernarfon Castle.

My mother-in-law and sister-in-law had been here before, so they knew it was great and brought us back, along with my husband's grandparents. Do take note, you have to book your table in advance. We sat in one of the backrooms which was very cozy and inviting, albeit a bit noisy from a rowdy group of "ladies who lunch," but it was fine once they left. We all really appreciated that savory items were included in the the afternoon tea. The menu features a selection of sandwiches, savouries, a cup of soup, a bucket of chips, a selection of cakes and a mini trifle. Plus your choice of a pot of tea or cup of filter coffee. I was happily surprised at the wide variety of teas! There was ample to eat. My husband and I ate our entire afternoon tea, but everyone else in our group had a few sweet treats left to take home. The food was very delicious. I loved the little quiche best along with the soup served in a cute tea cup and saucer! Plus, the little basket of chips was a nice touch! Scrumptious! Also, it's just 14 pounds for Afternoon Tea which I think it a great value for such a delicious savory tea. The Marram Grass Cafe is just outside Newborough and is adjacent to the White Lodge Caravan Park…read more The car park is quite compact, but on both occasions we visited there was enough space. The Marram Grass has a fair amount of outside seating and the entrance to the cafe has a well established grape vine growing over the top of it. Inside there are a variety of tables, from round social tables, to booth type seating, and also larger conventional tables for groups. We booked via the Internet, which was seamless, but on both occasions we visited the cafe was packed, so its probably best to book. The cafe has a great ambiance, lively, with an open kitchen and staff that are not only enthusiastic about their food, but knowledgeable enough about the ingredients, to make suggestions on what best accompanies various dishes. On the first night we visited, I had a main course of fillet of hake, with dill, capers and wilted spinach, tasty, if a little salty, whilst my wife had a starter as a main of mackerel on a bed of roasted vegetables. We ordered a portion of new potatoes and chips to accompany them, both were huge portions, so my advice is just to choose one. Other main courses include a seafood platter, lamb cutlets and a very popular fish and chips, which we had on second visit. Coming in two portion sizes, small and large, the crisp batter complimented the fresh fish perfectly, as did the homemade tartar sauce, chips and garden peas, not difficult to see why it proved so popular! Of course you have to have a dessert, lots of interesting choices but we chose the deconstructed cream tea (see picture) and the gooseberry and elderflower Eton Mess, the tea infused sultanas and raisins at the centre of the cream tea, were so full of incredible flavour and the Eton Mess, had cream infused with gooseberry and elderflower, and generous portions of meringue - fantastic! The second night we shared a chocolate fondant, which came with pistachio ice cream, popping candy and avocado, rich and sumptuous, but very filling. For my next course,I ordered Roast Beef as it was Sunday, and as I had seen them coming out with HUGE Yorkshire puddings to die for, however, I cancelled it when mine came out without one, as the chef said they had not risen. I was extremely disappointed as my friend had half a lobster (which looked more like two lobsters) and was chomping into that eagerly. BUT both of us were slightly annoyed at having to eat our meals at different times and at first it spoilt the evening. However, they did try to compensate, and sent out some lovely breads, some with ginger I believe, and some fabulous dips, one of which I did not recognise but it was delicious, and that was the problem. I tried to get the Lobster, but they had run out, then I tried to get the Raviola but that had gone too, and I was losing my patience and ended up with the salty hake. But, in the end the staff were brilliant, funny and friendly. It is a family business and I say well done to them all because, inspite of the mishaps, the food did impress me and that is hard to do!! I eat out every night and I am a fussy fusssy person. They also gave me a free glass of wine which I was grateful for. I did not dare ask for a free desert. But will definitley come back to this place as I want to have a chance to try the different dishes. So keep it going until my return. If you can bears us again. We did have fun with the staff.
