Mary and Greg made us feel so welcome. When we got there she told us that the propane barbecue on the deck had stopped working, but they would get us another one. The next day we had a brand new Weber which we grilled fish on all week. One evening Mary and Greg threw a big crab feed potluck out on the lawn facing the water for all their guests. We had a wonderful evening and stayed until the sun set. If you want a vacation rental from people that care about their guests comfort, this is the place. No impersonal service here. By the way this is a vacation rental, not a bed and breakfast which is how I saw it listed on Yelp.

We quickly booked a four-night trip to Ketchikan for some much needed Rain Replacement Therapy. Many of the local hotels are described as "rustic" and "quaint" which, as seasoned travelers, we know to mean, "few amenities," "no elevator" and "pretty much DIY." Luckily, we found the website for Thomas Street Vacation Rentals. The site offered three rental options: House; Apartment; and Studio. We booked the "House" which was basically -- you guessed it -- a house. Two (or three) bedrooms, one and a half baths, a full service kitchen, large comfy living room, spacious deck, washer/dryer and all the amenities you could wish for. Our hostess, Jane, even picked us up at the airport ferry and provided breakfast foods and snacks. It cost much less than the most rustic hotel we found and we had room to spread out and enjoy ourselves. The location was perfect - walking distance to basically everything and beautiful views of the pier and surrounding areas. Plus, crawling distance to one of the locals' favorite watering holes. (Not that that happened. YouTube lies!) In short, I'd recommend it to anyone and can't imagine staying anywhere else if our precipitations levels fall dangerously low in the future.
