My sister and I stood at the register, without acknowledgement, while the woman behind the counter continued her conversation on the phone. I asked if the shop gives military discounts. She paused her conversation long enough to say no, we're a mom and pops and then continued her conversation with describing the item I wanted to purchase to the person on the other end of the phone. This woman clearly either expected me, the customer, to wait until she was finished on the phone or she had no intention of assisting me. Either way, the customer service is awful. As I stated, we have to go, and then my sister and I begin to walk away, the women suddenly became aware of my presence and ask, "would you like for me to hold it for you?". Mom and pops shops are thankful for all sales and they act like it. You all don't need nor want my money. But don't worry, it spends elsewhere. I purchased 2 beautiful sea turtles from Temu for $20.

It seemed like we bothered her by interrupting her phone call, and she seemed annoyed when we asked for a second bag, she was out of bags to begin with so she had to go get anyway, for the merchandise we bought, which we wouldn't have done if they had been wrapped, which I expected them to be since they were kinda fragile boxes but alas here we are. Overall decent items for sale but recommend avoiding to avoid a truly awful customer experience and just go to one of the numerous other shops at the oceanfront instead.

Old…read moreBeach Farmers Market is located in the vibe district of Virginia Beach near the convention center (18th street). They are open every Saturday 9-noon (May-Oct) and every 3rd Saturday 9-noon (Nov-April). This is also a pet friendly market. Parking is street parking or there is a small free parking lot nearby. Old Beach farmers market has over 30 vendors each weekend. You can find fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, seafood, flowers, cheese, mushrooms, sauces, baked goods, tea and much more. You can even find a food truck. Some of my favorite Vendors are: Capstone Mushrooms, they always have a great selection of Oyster mushrooms (blue, pink, gold, king) , beech, Chestnut, lions Mane and shiitake. They sell grow kits if you want to try your hand at growing your own as well as extracts and blends you can add to your soups, sauces or drinks. Life is Gouda, they sell a variety of cheese based spreads. My favorite is the smoked gouda. It goes great with crackers, celery and carrots, a must try! Cromwell's Produce & Fritillary farm is my go to for fresh produce. This market does have a few produce vendors to choose from but I frequent these two the most. They always have fresh greens and fruits that are in season. Nick B's Chimichurri sells absolutely the best chimichurri sauce. It has a long shelf life and doesn't need to be refrigerated. This Sauce goes great on everything, steak, chicken, fish, lamb, even a chip. I find the prices to be very reasonable and comparable to the large chains. Definitely recommend stopping by and supporting small business and local farmers.

I bought 4 jars of local honey from a beekeeper in Virginia Beach! Stopped by the Soup Love vendor, which was selling a variety of homemade soup from chicken and bone broth to Harvest vegetable soups, as well as lentil soup! There were many other vendors selling their products, all of which looked great!! Just didn't have the time to check it all out because it started pouring rain!! Something for everyone!!!

Every time…read moreI've made a purchase, the cashiers have been very clear about the return policy -- items must be returned within 2 days, and anything marked final sale cannot be returned. I appreciate that they consistently explain the policy so customers know the rules upfront. This past weekend, I went shopping with my mom on Saturday. On Sunday she asked me to return a pair of earrings because the closure wasn't secure. I went back to the store with the item and the receipt about 15 minutes before closing. When I brought the item to the counter, the interaction started with some not-so-inviting remarks. I asked the associate helping me if there was an issue returning jewelry, and she said there wasn't but that she needed to check the receipt because of the strict policy. Before she even looked at my receipt, another employee with reddish hair stepped in and said they had to be careful because people "try to get over all the time." At that point, my receipt still hadn't even been reviewed. I firmly explained that my mom had asked me at the last minute to return the item and that I really didn't want to come back out, but because of their policy she wanted to make sure it was returned within the timeframe. The other employee responded sarcastically, saying, "Well, your mom is right." The associate who was originally helping me then completed the return without any issue. Afterward, I quickly checked out at one shop and headed out since the stores were closing. As I walked toward the door, I could hear the same employee loudly expressing her frustrations, and when she noticed me she immediately stopped and turned away. I completely understand why a business like this needs to have a strict return policy, and I respect that. However, the commentary and assumptions made during the process were unnecessary. A simple, professional interaction would have made the experience much more pleasant.

I was blown away with what I had walked in to, I'd like to think of it as an upscale flea market. The store included specialized gifts, decor, jewelry, clothes, home goods, paintings, record albums, snacks, candles, plants, art...all under one roof. You name it, they have it. After walking around for over an hour looking at each vendor, I decided to buy my daughter a pair of socks (they have an abundance of awesome socks) and fun snacks. As I was checking out, the lady shared that they currently have over 270 vendors within the store and that they change often. There was also a "Ladies Night" event that week which included amazing sales, live music and gift card giveaways! All of the prices were fairly decent as well. If you are looking for a gift for someone or just want to buy something for yourself, Painted Tree is definitely the place to go!!!
