I tried several before I found Chris but it only took one appointment with him for me to become a regular. The main thing that stood out to me was his excellent communication and ability to make sure he gives you exactly the cut that you have envisioned. Although the sign says Est 1999, The Bearded Barber just opened at this location in July 2020. Beards are not required! Luckily there are familiar, friendly faces, smiles and talent here as it appears that most of the hair stylists/barbers moved over from Richard's salon on Wilton Drive. With 5 chairs, the place is small and personable. The decor is trendy, hip, masculine and very in tune with the NE 13th Street revival vibe. While I was there it appeared that the clientele know their own barbers, and have moved with them. My barber is Chris (front chair) and he has cut my hair since I moved here a few years ago. Reservations are strongly suggested and the new computerized scheduling system is great. Walk-ins are welcome, although there don't seem to be too many people walking along this stretch. read more

This business, formerly "Richards Hair Studio" was located in an older facility across the street. The former business was closed with the new facility renamed "Richard's-Men's Hair Shop," moved to this new location retaining only its phone number and top notch professional staff of men's hair stylists. The difference between the former and the new is akin to day and night. The new shop is bright, cheery in appearance with up to date décor, facilities and wider range of offerings. Richard's happens to be my hair shop of choice because they are darn good; totally professional at what they do. I happen to be one of those with long, as in over the shoulder length full hair which isn't all that easy to work with and generally gets screwed up when I have it done elsewhere, but never here at Richard's. It's also full service, offering not only full haircuts but simple buzz cuts, hot shaves, beard trims, edge and side coloring, full coloring, conditionings, waxing, manicures, eyebrow waxes, pedicures & etc. Being located within Wilton Manors, as anyone acquainted with the area might easily guess, attracts a substantial following of gay male customers which have a general reputation of being fussy about their hair and appearance. The best place I've gone to get my hair cut since I've moved to south florida. It's been difficult to find someone good and also reliable and who doesn't charge you $45 to cut your hair. Yes, I've paid that much before. The atmosphere there is great. Everyone seems to get along there and it just has a good vibe. You kind of wish your appointment took long so you can hang out there more. I highly recommend Dave. He has been cutting my hair for at least a year and he is amazing. I've not had a bad cut yet and he is done in a flash. It's perfect. Make sure to book in advance. They welcome walk-ins but it's always best to have a reservation. A cut costs $25. They have various other services available like shaves and waxes. Remember to bring cash as they are cash only. They do have an ATM in the back though. You'll want to bring them tip money because whoever you end up with will earn every penny. read more

Richard you do have a 5 star rating and when i called to advise you about the barber Isiah being 30 minutes late and canceling our appointment the day before and me being a barber from California you acted like you didnt care when i called to talk to you about Isiah being late. I do know WE are all independent contractors and we pay a rental fee for our chairs but realize your individual contractor makes me or other clients not want to come back to your shop. My shop back home is 5 stars as well. Our shop has been around for 40 years and very well established Barbers. I advise that if a customer has a complaint that you listen and be a bit more sympathetic to clients. We at our shop do everything to make our clients happy and feel good. read more

I needed a break from my normal barber situation where the standard was simply, if you leave with less hair than you arrived with it's a job well done! I called The Bearded Barber after reading the glowing reviews for Richard's old shop. I was given the updated address and a same day appointment. The shop is on NE 13 Street which is a funky/cool neighborhood in the South end of Wilton Manors. I arrived early and was impressed with the shop. Brand new and a sharp, modern design. Richard is quirky and impressive with plenty of tattoos and a beard worthy of naming a business for. Be prepared, Richard has one speed; balls to wall! He works at a manic pace while keeping up a light and friendly patter. I had no idea how my haircut was coming along because I'm virtually blind without my glasses. When we took a break to get washed I snuck a look and was instantly happy. It's been a long time since I've had a haircut that I wanted to show off! Once I was washed, Richard blow dried and styled my hair in a way I've never had done. I have very straight hair that is prone to cowlicks but despite the significant amount of cutting Richard did, it all lays down perfectly. Oh and by the way, I was prepared to pay a premium for such a good cut but it was only a few dollars more than I'd been paying for mediocrity. Did you know that as you age your head gets bigger. Subconsciously, humans are able to gauge someone's age by the almost imperceptible larger size of the older head. That may be why shorter hair on older men makes sense. It keeps your head from becoming a giant billboard for AARP! The barbers at Richard's are prompt, friendly and skilled. I watched the cuts others got while I waited for Heynald with whom I had made an appointment. Everyone walked out looking better than when they arrived! I like the skin fade I get from Heynald, but I suspect I'd be pleased with the other barbers also. I've tried other shops in the area but this is my choice. So my stylist moved out of state and so begins the search....sincerely I'm not so into myself that I need some perfect cut but it just so happens.....I received it! Called to see about a 'walk In"...politely they were pretty busy but eager to assist so we settled on an appointment the following day. I walked in and like a slick running machine every person was cutting away with ease and precision...you can tell when you are surrounded by actual professionals rather than the sloppy attempt which seems to circumvent the entire Fort Lauderdale area. Sitting quietly Chris came over introduced himself and away I go....I explained what was up with my crazy head and my interests.....and within minutes I was immediately at ease! Basically if you want to get 'cleaned up' then this is thee place to go, if you need a stylist rather than a Supercuts or just need some help on trying something different this is the place....I gasped at how low the cost was when I checked out. Typically to get a cut like this in any "real city" you are looking at 50, 60 and up...so at 25 you better be leaving a 15.00 tip...minimum. (Before I continue, they only take cash but they have an ATM in the place). It's walking distance from my apartment so I just walked in. The wait was very short as they said and Juan called me. I was kinda scared because I have a somewhat complicated hair with weird grow pattern that since I moved it's being hard to find somebody who understands how to work it out. Anyway, I started telling Juan to be careful with it and he was like "yeah I saw it, I have to do this and that", he acknowledged right away, which made me feel calm (Last experience had me looking like a permanent " just woken up"). I showed him a few styles I had in mind, and he helped me choose one based on my hair. He started right away, we had a nice talk and he didn't even ask me if everything was going in the right direction, he was sure he was doing the right stuff. He then washed my hair (which is great because it really shows how the hair looks like), one last touch and BAM, best hair cut I got in Florida and exactly what I wanted, which never happens (its always too short, or the wrong style, spiky hair, etc). He didn't take any shortcuts, all scissor work and very detailed, it didn't take very long including talk and wash. He is new there so it might not show up in the rest of the reviews, but for sure he needs to stay. I'd totally recommend him and now I know where to go for cuts. It was $25 in cash, which is OK, I don't get a cut every week. The place in general is very friendly, everybody seems to be having a good time, and its very fast paced, which is nice if you're in a hurry. read more
