Ahhh the Bears Den!!! yet another magnificent destination steakhouse in the state of Ohio. Customers will drive for hours to come to this place. This is a rustic and relaxed style of restaurant, and the steaks are impeccably cooked and they are quite delicious as well as the side dishes. Check the hours as they're not open every single day and you might want to call to check and see if you need a reservation before traveling from a distance. Pro tip: TRY THE PIE!!! The staff here are super friendly and often check back on their tables as would be expected. A nice touch is the great hospitality provided here, which sometimes in a busy big city restaurant is not quite as nice as what you get here. These are really great people. The restaurant is nearby salt Fork State Park, so if you're visiting or staying there, Bears Den can easily be a welcome treat that you will talk about for years to come. read more

I ate here eight years ago and came back today. I'm pretty sure it was the same bartender. The place has changed a little bit for the better and now they have outdoor seating which I can't wait to come back when it's warmer on a consistent basis. But I went with the special which was New York strip, and I had green beans which you'll see in the picture. I had almonds on them and carrots. Loved this restaurant! Stopped by for dinner and was blown away by this place. The restaurant is pretty big and has a rustic country vibe. We were greeted and seated as soon as we arrived. Our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout our time there. The menu was huge and had lots of options. We started out with the corn nuggets for our appetizer. They were good. I ordered the fun dip drink and felt like I was literally drinking the candy. For my entree I ordered the 8 oz sirloin with whiskey glaze, Mac & cheese and baked potato. Everything was delicious! OK...This place is a MUST stop. My wife and I were blown away with the whole experience. Man oh man...the staff were friendly and attentive. The fresh house salad was great. I am not a huge fan of the "green leafy crap" but this was so tasty. Their dressings are all homemade...and their blue cheese...scrumptious. Our steaks were out of this world. Cooked to perfection and tasted amazing...the sides were awesome as well. The place isn't flashy. Lots of dead animals stuffed on the walls and the dining room was basic but don't let that fool you...the dining room experience is still fantastic. They had a nice selection of alcohol and the strawberry mule we shared was one of the best ones we have had in a while. Again, we are trying to figure out how to come back to this place. Bear in mind...it was a bit pricy for what we usually do. For the two of us with tip it was $85.00 I believe...but we would spend that again in a heart beat because it was so good. All their beef is locally grown and grass fed and I believe all of their stuff is locally sourced. Horrendous service. Came in at 8 PM and they are open till 9 PM, with tables available on their patio, with an elderly person as part of the party, and they wouldn't acquiesce. Claimed the patio was closing. Very rude, and no real effort to try to accommodate, like they didn't really care whether they got our business or not. Incredibly disappointing and wouldn't come back again, and wouldn't advise anybody else going either if they don't care enough about customer service. Was quoted 30 minutes and took way longer, when I spoke to Steve (presumably the manager), he was no help!!! And 15 minutes into it, they seated two people in front of us at a table that they could've used to pair up to another table!!! They want your money and do not care about the customer!!! I can't believe it has been ten years since I visited Bear's Den! A lot has changed since my last visit in 2014. They expanded the restaurant and added some new menu items. Upon arrival, we were immediately seated and our drink requests were taken. As an appetizer, we requested corn fritters and onion rings. For dinner, I requested smothered chicken with a salad and baked sweet potato. The waitress brought us bread and butter with our drinks. The place was pretty busy and we sat in the expansion area. A little while later, the appetizers were delivered. The corn fritters were tasty, as were the onion rings. My side salad was excellent. Then dinner arrived. My smothered chicken was served over a bed of rice and it was hot and delicious. My baked sweet potato was also delicious, but with bread, salad, and appetizers, I was already almost full. Per referral of my daughter, we stopped here for lunch on our way back from Columbus. Just off the interstate a couple miles, this hidden gem did not disappoint! The atmosphere is much like a mountain lodge with a cozy little bar area inside and an upbeat bar/stage area outside. The menu was unexpected, with a variety of fresh cut steaks, seafood and delicious comfort food. The deserts are made fresh and are huge! So delicious! Found this gem on the way to Kentucky. We went during dinner time, and the place was packed. The parking lot was not small, but all filled up. And With customers waiting both inside and outside. We sat by the bar, waited several minutes before getting serviced. Bartender was friendly, and the Moscow mule was so good, one of the tastiest I ever had. Vibe: super friendly and rustic. Restrooms are renovated and very clean. The wall signages are pretty funny, make sure you check them out. Best local restaurant in the area serving local beef and produce. My husband prefere the rib eye and I love the steak sandwich.The specials are hit or miss. Servers are generally attentive and kind. Friday nights and Saturdays get kind of busy so call ahead or get reservations. My only complaint is I wish they removed the foil from the baked potato, too many times the foil is stuck inside the middle of the potato. read more

Dessert case inside the door that makes you realize you'll be eating far more than you had planned. This wood paneled Mecca amidst the hills of eastern Ohio is worth driving in from near or far. We made a reservation just to be sure we'd get in. The staff is speedy, friendly, and fun...especially when they arrive with a tray filled with steaks, potatoes, and drinks. We were looking forward to trying this place. We expected the long wait times and it was at least an hour. When you walk in there is an enclosed patio that you can sit at bar tables and order drinks and appetizers while you wait for your table. The front of the restaurant looks rustic like a log cabin. The separate seating area in the back feels detached from the rest of the place. It doesn't have the warm feeling the front has. The food was served hot and delicious, great portions. We were seated right away on their heated patio (very toasty). The menu was overwhelming with delicious sounding options. We wanted to try something unique or special to them. We started with mushroom pastry, was tasty but very small portion ( just a couple bites for each of us). I chose the apple butter pork Chop, loaded baked potato and husband had the ribs with angry corn (jalapeño). We had homemade rolls and butter too. I was just passing through and wanted to sample local fare instead of a chain. I am so glad that I did. I love everything about the Bear's Den. You might have expected a lodge motif based on the name, but it wasn't dark or overdone at all. The lunch menu was great, and there were unexpected flourishes like a wagyu burger and a patty melt featuring local lamb. I had the French Onion soup which was good. A bit spicy which I liked and with amazing CHEESE. I also enjoyed a house salad with warm bacon dressing (I wish it came with a bit more dressing, all dressings are served on the side) and smothered bourbon glazed boneless pork chops. They were cooked perfectly and delicious! I have been passing through Cambridge for years and will make it a point to stop back as often as I can. There is a small bar and there is outdoor seating which can be closed off during the cold months. Lots of light oak wood paneling and stuffed wildlife to look at. A little too well lit for my taste. My wife had the meat and i had a half rack of ribs, both portions were plenty. The ribs were very smoky in flavor with a nice crisp bark on them and the sauce was sweet yet tangy. The macaroni and cheese was mild cheddar, not overpowering or rich. Our salads were good. Did not get dessert, but the dessert case had a lot of nice looking items to choose from. We were just too full. The prices were reasonable. While the food and service was above average, we live 40 minutes away and it's not exceptional enough to warrant driving out of the way.
