I hired the BeatBuds for my son Leo B.'s third birthday and I cannot recommend these guys enough. They made the party a total banger, and one that required minimal work from me and my husband. This was the first kid birthday we had to plan that more than a house party that was child-friendly but honestly mostly for adults. Now that our son is in school, with friends and opinions, we realized we needed to figure out some form of entertainment for all the three-year-olds that would be gathering in our backyard. I had a panicked moment of late-night googling before I just asked an experienced mom friend for ideas that didn't involve making themed decorations inspired by Pinterest. She suggested the BeatBuds. I'd heard of the BeatBuds, but had assumed they were too expensive to justify hiring, given that no one remembers their third birthday party. It turns out they charge $450 for the whole interactive performance, with the option to add instrument kits that double as party favors for $10 apiece. By the time they left our house, I felt like I would've been happy to pay double. They were certainly worth every penny. I contacted the BeatBuds a few weeks in advance and was happy when they still had availability for the second Saturday of April. I emailed with Matty and he was nice and responsive. I paid their fee and waited until I had all our RSVPs in before adding on some party favors. The only other prep I had to do for them was to show Leo their YouTube videos so he'd be excited for their visit. Mark and Johnny came the day of and just absolutely rocked Leo's world. They were professional with us, arriving early to set up and getting situated in our yard. (They require some shade and a little bit of space, but I don't think you need that big an area to accommodate them.) With the kids, they were basically Beyoncé, BTS, and Taylor Swift. Their set was about 45-50 minutes as promised, and included several fantastic songs that had every child at our house completely riveted. They knew how to appeal to small children, and engaged them with various instruments and activities connected to the music. Most of our tiny guests were three years old, but there were a few slightly older kids and I think they got even more out of the experience. Leo is a shy kid, and he had a hard time at the beginning of his party, despite being super stoked to see the BeatBuds (I think he'd been hoping for more of a private show, for him and maybe his best friend). He cried and didn't want to come outside until the show got going, and even then, he spent most of the party apart from the rest of the kids. The BeatBuds were wonderful about paying attention to him and making him feel special but also part of the same party everyone else was attending. They also stuck around after their show to accompany the happy birthday song. The booking fee included twelve tambourines, but we did opt to get the full instrument bags, each of which came with four percussion instruments, an activity leaflet, and crayon pack (the price of the tambourines was deducted from our total). I'm guessing the Buds make a decent profit from these goodie bags, but they saved us the kids loved them and they saved us the headache of figuring out party favors, so again, I'd say worth it. I really have nothing but unequivocal praise for the BeatBuds. I'd hire them again in a heartbeat, and probably will when Leo is old enough to make actual memories. read more

I am not surprised to see that The BeatBuds already have a solid five star rating on Yelp... I was introduced to this band at my nephew's second birthday party this past weekend and I don't know who enjoyed the band more: me, my husband, my son, my daughter, or the birthday boy. Matty and Jonny were really fabulous. They entertained all of the kids and adults and had the entire crowd dancing and playing with all kinds of instruments from tambourines and maracas to drums and sticks. If they were based in Arizona, I'd definitely be a groupie and I'd have them at my kids' birthday parties in a heartbeat! Since that's not the case, we bought a CD and will definitely be listening to it often. If you have kids that are at all into music, don't miss an opportunity to see these guys. The band was so mediocre and inexperienced. They could care less About songs and performance. For $375 it barely lasted for 40 45 mins and half the time was not really singing and performing. I have hired other performers in the past and they did an amazing job for half the price and longer time. Their songs Are boring and not everyone knows them. They do freeze dance or other interactive stuff for a very short time. So think about it this way, would you rather hire a better performer for a longer time for less money and interact more with kids and sing regular songs that kids can sing along with or beatbuds who are not that great? Also you are literally taking a chance with which performers you will get. I am highly dissatisfied. I wish I could get my money back. read more

I used them at my daughter's 1st birthday over the weekend. I was in contact with Matt and he was kind, courteous and professional throughout all our communications. They were also very accommodating! They added an intro song to their performance, a show that my daughter loves watching (the Notekins), no questions asked! Our daughter just had her 2nd bday party today. We booked the Beatbuds off of the yelp reviews and also wanting something interactive for the various aged kids to be involved in for a portion of the party. The guys were early, set up quickly etc. Really friendly, nice fellas'. Initially as they set up, since the party had just officially started, there weren't many kids there yet, so I was a bit nervous that they would be performing for a room of like 3 kids lol. They reassured me no matter the number it would be a great time. Magically, majority of the guests/kids happened to show up right as the guys began. I wasn't sure how the kids would react to these musical guests, considering that the beatbuds had to compete w/ a bouncy house and bouncy house obstacle course. After wrangling the kids (ages 1-7) into the play room for the performance, any worries I could have had instantly went away. They really got the kids involved, entertained and moving. The parents enjoyed it as well b/c we could watch/play with them, and also go eat, socialize etc, knowing that all of the kids were well distracted, safe and engaged. I was actually able to eat at our daughter's bday this year! Which, was impossible last year, lol. And being pregnant with baby #2 this time, makes me a very happy host/momma when I can eat. :) The guys played the full hour. Kids played/sang along. Danced around. Even got to try the different instruments with them. After the hour, they offered to help usher everyone into the dining room where our set up was and lead the entire group in our 'happy bday' song which was an added plus. I would definitely hire these guys again. Well worth the money, fun, laid back, regular guys who are good with kids and not creepy lol. Just being able to have the parents socialize amongst ourselves and have an hour to be 'kid free' to some degree was totally worth it, plus the music was great. Thank you!! read more

We had the BeatBuds perform for my son's 3rd birthday 2 weeks ago. I am so glad that we booked them-- they were amazing and made the party so much fun! We learned about them by passing by another birthday party and hearing them play about a year ago. My son and I listened to their CD for a few weeks leading up his birthday party. I have to say, the guys were even better live than on their CD!! I was so impressed-- these guys are really talented! One of the things I liked most about the BeatBuds is that they had a whole interactive program for the kids. They brought musical instruments for the kids to play with and to made sure that all the kids were included and having a good time. It was no small feat-- these were 25 squirmy 2 and 3 year olds. But they managed to hold their attention for the entire hour. The kids loved it! The guys were really sweet and offered to stay a while longer to lead everyone in Happy Birthday with their guitar. The Beat Buds are awesome. We first heard them perform a couple of years ago during a parent/me cooking class at the Skirball. Our kids liked them so much that we would go to their "concerts" at the Beverly Hills farmers market and bought the CD and t-shirts. They just performed for our twins' 5 YO birthday party, and they rocked it. The kids (about 30) were totally into and entranced for the entire show. Not only are the songs catchy/cool (they're actually ok played repeatedly in the car), but Matty and Jonny engage the kids with basic percussion instruments (i.e. rhythm sticks and maracas) and have the kids join in with basic singing, questions and dancing (including a freeze dance) We've seen other great children's bands, but the "audience engagement" really sets them apart. The kids really feel like they're part of the band (oh yeah, at the end of the shoe, they let kids sit and bang on the real drum set) My wife was the one who booked them and, in the past, corresponded with them regarding where they were playing, etc, and she couldn't be happier with the interaction - just super responsive and easy to work with. 10 thumbs up read more

A little late with this review - but I just want to say what wonderful entertainers and people these guys are. I work for a non-profit that serves children with developmental delays and disabilities. We had them come out to an event with about 30 families. Many of our kids have trouble with focus and attention, several have behavior problems. These guys kept our group having fun and focused for an hour. Parents were blown away. Kids got a chance to participate, take turns, be with other kids, be loud, but do it in a way that channeled their energy and made everything fun. These guys talked with our staff in advance to modify the activities for our special audience and made the day for so many of our families who don't get to do "typical" kid activities that often.
