I'm sharing this review so future students know exactly what to expect and so this school has the opportunity to improve. I attended The Beauty Institute in Allentown, starting in January, and I have now completed the program after investing over $7,000 in tuition. Based on that cost, I expected a structured, professional, and hands-on learning environment. That was not my experience. A major issue throughout the program was a lack of basic supplies. Even after paying for kits, we were frequently required to bring in our own materials because the school would run out especially as class sizes increased. There were also ongoing cleanliness concerns. At one point, we went weeks without soap available at the esthetician stations to properly wash our hands, and I had to personally take soap out the public restroom so we were able to properly wash our hands. Which is unacceptable in an environment focused on skincare and sanitation. In terms of instruction, the experience was inconsistent. Ms. Jillian, my Level 2 instructor, was informative and hands-on, and I did gain value from her teaching. However, my experience with Ms. Sally in Level 3 was the opposite. She did not demonstrate services, SHE REMAINED ON HER PHONE DURING THR ENTIRE DAY. and there were multiple days with little to no teaching at all. Much of the program at that stage felt like self-teaching, often relying on YouTube rather than in-class instruction. The one time a demonstration was done for makeup, it raised concerns due to sanitation practices and lack of clear communication. When students were not satisfied, instead of addressing the feedback, Ms. Sally reportedly described the group negatively to another instructor, which did not reflect what actually happened. There were also issues with fairness and communication. I was told I had a client and then, without any notice or discussion, that client was reassigned to another student. This was never communicated to me beforehand. Situations like this contributed to an overall pattern that felt inconsistent and unfair. As more students began to speak up about concerns, there was a noticeable shift in how certain students were treated. I personally felt singled out at times, while other students who did not raise concerns appeared to receive more attention and opportunities. Job placement is presented as a benefit when enrolling, but in my experience, there was no support in that area. I was never assisted with building a resume, preparing for employment, or connected with job opportunities. Additionally, when I brought concerns to the director, Victoria, after a disagreement with Ms. Sally, the response I received felt dismissive and did not lead to any resolution. Even on my final day, the environment felt cold, unorganized, and unwelcoming. There was no sense of support or acknowledgment after completing the program, and I chose to leave rather than participate in a celebration that did not feel genuine. Another major concern is the lack of post-graduation guidance. I graduated on the 21st and have not been told how to schedule my state board exam. I have not received my affidavit, nor has anyone reached out with next steps. For a program that is supposed to prepare students for licensure and employment, this level of disorganization after graduation is extremely concerning. Overall, while I remained committed and completed the program, the lack of consistent instruction, supply shortages, sanitation issues, limited support, poor communication, and concerns about fairness made this a disappointing experience. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so that future students receive the level of education, professionalism, and support that is expected from a program at this cost. read more

I have been to the institute several times and had my hair done. No problem then all of a sudden this time they're telling me that it's called a color correction and that they're not comfortable doing it. It's unprofessional a simple thing and they don't do it. read more

YUUUUS! I came here for the first time yesterday to get my hair highlighted. My hairstylist was crystal, she did such amazing job. My hair is so dark usually people have to do multiple sessions to get the blonde highlights I wanted. I showed Crystal a picture of how I wanted it, and the results is so close to the picture. The whole experience at the beauty institute is amazing, I came on a Saturday morning and did not wait too long. I spent a total of 3.5 hrs, this includes filling out paperwork, waiting...etc. Anyway, I will definitely come back again in the future. Made a appointment last week drove 45 mins to Lehigh valley Mall. Even got a text confirmation that appointment is set. Once at the location wrote my name down was told to sit my appointment was for 6 pm @ 6:35 pm I asked how much longer a man replied no one got back to me regarding my color was told sorry no one showed up. While sitting for 35 mins not one communication about no one was available. Not professional. I was scared and nervous to begin with. After this episode I will not go back. I was looking for a new look and decided to try The Beauty Institute - Schwarzkopf. I couldn't be happier. I was so nervous at first but everyone there was so friendly and nice. The salon was clean and everybody just had a really good "vibe" going on. It was easy to relax and get comfortable. Lanisha and her instructor did a great job of turning my "inspirational look" into a reality. They totally exceeded my expectations and I will definitely be going back. read more

I had made an appointment for my mother to get her makeup done and when she came home it looked like a 5 year old did her makeup and her experience was awful, the student doing her makeup was more focused on finishing her own hair then her client I understand these are students in training but they should know in the real world the job she did would be unacceptable, and if the girl couldn't do the makeup look my mother wanted she should've suggested other options. My mother said not one teacher came to check up on the student on what she was doing to my mother face. I suggest the teacher pay more attention to the students and educate them not to rush someone's makeup.The only good thing about this was my mother didn't have to pay for the makeup only for the eyelashes they put on her. read more

Amazing experience! I received the best haircut and color of my life (and I'm over 50!) at The Beauty Institute in Allentown. I had an appointment with Sabina. Firstly, Sabina epitomizes style and beauty, which, to me was encouraging. She's European and seemed to be innately in touch with the essence of fashion and beauty. Sabina was not afraid to consult her teacher, Sheren, for her support and opinions. Sheren gave Sabina help and advice after the two of them listened carefully to what I wanted. I ended up with the best cut and color, exactly what I was hoping for. The cut can go either funky or sophisticated, and the color is perfect. I wanted a cutting edge yet elegant look, and together, Sabina and Sheren succeeded. I am so, so happy. Everyone loves it!! read more

I did not like the beauty school in the least. The receptionist was always very snappy, impatient, and borderline rude. I have an expectation that the appointment will last awhile as it is a beauty school, but the girl I had was worse than slow. She had no confidence so she would go very slow in the hopes that the teacher would come by and let her know she was doing okay. It got to the point where she was drying my hair and doing the SAME spot over and over again while looking around for the teacher that I finally told her forget it, it's dry enough. The teacher that was assigned to her was nice though. I found another beauty school nearby that was better equipped and nicer. read more

All I can say is WOW! Amazing service!!!! The stylist took their time with me. Jose did my hair along with his teacher and they did such an amazing job!! They consulted me with every step of the way. I went there to have my hair cut and colored. The stylist who was assigned to me was Fatima and she really took her time to make sure she knew what I wanted. Throughout the entire process she was extremely attentive and gentle. My total service was $40 and it's well worth it. I'd rather come to a place where the stylists are learning all the new techniques, rather than a cheaper alternative with stylists that don't keep up with new trends. I'll be coming here more often. Seriously Horrible. I never write reviews but this place destroyed my hair. I asked the instructor when I walked in if they had anything similar to a Malibu hair treatment so she recommended a cleanse. The "cleanse" destroyed my hair, literally fried it! I get it a hair school but it was the instructor who told the girl to do it. Chloe (the student) was such a sweetheart but I wouldn't pay $60 to have my hair ruined again. I would recommend people to just spend the extra money and get it done properly & avoid this place at all costs. Updated: I was contacted by the owner of the school (who was amazing!) and she resolved the issue. Although my hair was pretty much donezo she was sweet enough to mail me a box of goodies to bring my hair back to life as well as a refund. This fantastic customer service would encourage me to give this place one more shot! read more

This is an honest review. Went to this salon for close to 2 a year at least 2x a month Loyal customer Needed hair done with coloring past Sat Spent money utilizing groupon and it was payed for and verified with my bank Got there and they couldn't find coding for payment I was shuffled like an animal with dye in my hair and told by my stylist to go with wet hair to my car to charge my cellphone & get it ! Afterwards, I was given a student who treated me like an animal I asked if she could clean my neck n ears from dye because I was itchy Ignored me - put a hair dryer over my head attached to my skull and asked nicely if it could be lifted higher. She walked away and played with her i pad I was so upset I left my glasses at the front desk No one reached out either to announce glasses were there Blow out was done in a rush leaving my hair not as I was use to and wet in the back Asked supervisor if she could correct and said no !! I went in last week to have my hair dyed from brown to black. I get this done about once a year, and this was my first time going to the Beauty Institute. Other salons in the past have tried to talk me into going with a different color when I tell them "just black" but when I told the student who was working with me- I believe her name was Lyas, she was enthusiastic about it. Process went as smooth as possible. Some dye happened to get on my forehead and ears (as it always seems to every time I get it done) but it was wiped off before I could even point it out. Professional salons I have gone to in the past don't even do as good a job of getting it off skin as here. Will definitely be back! read more

My friend and I went in a short while ago to have our hair cut. We both received bad haircuts and before anyone says, " don't pick on the students, they are just learning." Read the rest of my message!!! It was not the student who gave us a bad haircut. It was the instructor!!!! we went in and I showed the student first a picture of how I wanted my back and then combed my front and sides the way I wear my hair. The one a shorter instructor came over and the girl explained and she asked me to see the picture again. Then the girl started to cut my back. It was done very well for someone learning. Then she called the instructor (it was a younger taller instructor) she immediately took over the haircut. Every time I said something, the instructor mouthed me off. She was arrogant and rude. I tried to say that that is not how I WANT MY HAIR!!! and she mouthed me off and ignored me. Well there were strands of hair longer than the others. My back comes to a point when I told her SEVERAL times I don't want a point. My hair will not lay the way I wear it. it parts wrong, the hair over my ears is wrong, and the back is jagged and comes to a point. My friend had the same experience with the same instructor. The instructor would not listen and did her own things. Both of us have bad haircuts and had to try and fix each other's hair the best we could by cutting the strangling hair that hangs by itself all over. Neither one of us received the haircut we asked for. Also, how can a student possibly learn if the instructor takes over and does the entire haircut form the point she is asked to come over. It is no wonder she is working at the beauty Institute no one I know would go to a shop and let her butcher their hair. As far as the Beauty Institute, I have to ask why would they hire an instructor who is incompetent and CANNOT cut and WILL NOT listen to the CUSTOMER! this is my hair and I should be able to have it cut the way I WANT MY HAIR TO BE!!! As for the student she was nice, professional, kind, and listened to me as a customer. She is will make a good hair stylist some day. As far as the instructor she should be fired! read more
