A couple of years ago I came home from work to find a massive swarm of several thousand bees had taken up residence on my front door! I had no idea what to do or who to call! I tried calling Yarra Council, they suggested calling the zoo or Museums Victoria, who in turn said to call the council again. Eventually, someone at City of Yarra put me onto the Bee Wrangler, who had just done some work for them removing a bee infestation on some council building. So this guy John pops around very soon afterwards - he's based in Fitzroy I believe - to have a look. He reckoned that the bees had been trying to migrate from some large chimney stacks nearby but had been blocked by a row of houses on Nicholson Street, and had returned to the middle of the street (i.e. my front door) to build a hive!
Anyway, John the Bee Wrangler came round over two nights (in the middle of the night, when the bees were more docile I guess) and removed them. He was so quiet I only just heard him outside because I happened to still be awake. Really friendly, quick and efficient service, I can highly recommend him. He charged about a pretty reasonable $110 for the job from memory, but I just forwarded it to the real estate agent/landlord and was reimbursed.
In the unlikely (and frankly terrifying) event that thousands of bees decide to set up camp at your house, I hope this gives you an option for their removal. read more
