My daughter has attended this dojang for about two years since she was 6 and we'd still be going…read morehere if we didn't need to move. But move we did... so it's about time I leave a review. It's located on Bellaire next to Pollo Campero in a slightly run down orange retail center. It's hard to miss once you see it. They do have a shared parking lot with a handicap spot right in front of the dojang but parking can be tight during busy times like belt tests or larger classes. They offer a 1-week trial period, which is ideal. In my opinion, trial classes are mandatory before joining a new dojang just to see if it's a good fit but if it's only one class, it's merely a peek. One week - if you can make it to multiple classes - will give you exposure to most of the other students and instructors you will meet and is more accurate. There are several martial arts places in the area, but this one won based on value but also the atmosphere. They offer unlimited classes for the monthly membership cost as long as you attend the classes for your age group (ages 4 and up), they don't pressure you to compete and has a more supportive and relaxed feel so you can go at your own pace. The classes aren't very crowded either so you sometimes get more attention to work on things you need to work on. You have the option to apply for a belt test every 3 months so that's not rushed either, so this place is definitely not a McDojo. They do provide a handbook that outlines all the testing material for each belt so you're not going in blind and they'll focus on testing material leading up to it, helpful for the students that don't attend as many classes. The other students are pretty good sports overall. Females are in the minority and my daughter is small for her age but she never really felt left out by the other boys. Master Derek and the other instructors are knowledgeable and personable. They teach WTF taekwondo here from stances, kicks, blocks, punches, and poomsae to footwork, breaking, kicking combinations, self defense, and sparring (though no weapons so far). They also teach the five tenets of taekwondo. I even joined the adult classes when I had time though very casually (more for exercise) and I didn't feel pressured to go any further (though there's always encouragement). It was fun and Kim's Olympic Taekwondo felt like a second home with how often we were there. Both my daughter and I miss them but there were some pretty great memories. Fun fact: Master Derek has a background in physical therapy so that's a plus while practicing a contact sport... especially once you pass a certain age. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to learn taekwondo, whether or not you're a beginner. Or at least try out a few trial classes to see if you'll love this place as much as we did.

Her knowledge of Tae Kwon Do goes beyond measure, but her attitude and persistence in her teachings and encouragement is second to none. Although, I consider myself a well-rounded athlete, I have never been pushed both mentally and physically as much as I have here. What I love most about the school is that each instructor has learned under Master Kim and developed his or her own unique way of leading a class. The school not only challenges me physically and mentally, but it is fulfilling in a cultural, social, and therapeutic way. I highly recommend this school to any ages and all levels!

She said be there 5-10 mins early I get that at 5:22 am. The whole gym is closed and no one there. I wait a bit because I used to work at a gym and I know sometimes people can be late. Guess what?! A white car pulls up. I'm like cool another student. Nope! Some white man who looked like he just got out of bed and gets out of his car. Does he greet me? Does he say he give me a moment let me get the gym set up? Nope! Just looks pissed off he's up super early and looks miserable and looks like he just rolled out of bed. Honestly I waited another 4-5 mins seeing if he would kind of get out of hiding. Nope just never saw him again. Saw the gym lights on. Didn't even see him unlock the door. Went missing for quite sometime. So I just left. This was supposed to be my first class visit and it completely was not what I was expecting. I'm pretty active already. Today I was going to rest more after slowly getting over something I caught from Labor Day weekend and was excited to try something to as a workout. But this place really is a disappointment.

Escape rooms are great to play and then discuss over a meal after, and they make a great team-bonding experience! If you have some extra time, you can play another game afterwards for a discount on the same day :D The only thing I can find fault with: if you have less than 8 players, then there may be other groups joining you. So if one wants to guarantee a completely private game, they'll have to book out 8 spots. Other places don't have that rule, so if that's not an option, look for the game rooms in the suburbs (namely, in Sugarland!). There's also another location at City Center that has even more rooms! I'm pretty sad that we've pretty much played all the games over the years, so I'm really hoping they swap in some new rooms... fingers crossed! The Escape Game continues to be my favorite escape room, so whether you're a newbie or a pro, do check them out!

There's free parking in the garage (upper level), which made things easy. When we walked in, we were greeted right away and got checked in while waiting for our time slot. The waiting area was clean and had some photo opportunity spots. Our game master, Brianna, came over and gave us a quick rundown since it was my first time, which I really appreciated. As soon as we entered the room, I noticed how clean and well-organized everything was. The props were also well taken care of, making this whole experience super immersive. Brianna was really helpful and gave us hints at the right moments whenever we got stuck. There were multiple layers to the puzzles, which made it more exciting and less predictable. It truly kept us engaged the entire time. It ended up being such a great escape room experience for me, and even my friends who have done others said this one stood out. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for something fun to do with friends!

Politely offering a more appropriate solution would've been sufficient. Instead this lady was aggressive with me as I was juggling two toddlers and a newborn in the Texas summer heat. The gym has a spin room and a separate room for their many classes which include, body pump, yoga, Zumba, pilates, strength training, women only classes on hand and over 60 classes as well and many more. There is a monthly schedule listed online. I believe with the membership you also have access to the pool and they do have classes. The downfall is that they don't have a ton of evening classes for working folks, but there are some options. Most classes are in the morning to early afternoon. Overall I am very happy with this gym. People of all ages and all walks of life will be found here.

I highly recommend this experience; kayaking was such a blast today!

Chayon Ryu means, 'Natural Way System' - we should move in ways that are bio-mechanically friendly & efficient for humans to move. Injuries are very rare as students and instructors treat each other with respect and patience. I started studying Chayon-Ryu when I was in high school as an almost desperate attempt to end the bullying I experienced for most of my childhood. Chayon-Ryu instilled valuable skills, confidence and life-long friendships into me. Train for more than a couple of years and the benefits, beyond learning how to kick and punch, will pour forth into your life. And if you have any children interested in learning karate, Master Sean Kim is FANTASTIC. I have never seen someone so great with kids. Like I said great, honest and loving people. Recommend it to all. Kids are from 6 years and older, we tried joining at 5 but there was no partner for us. And we where not ready either. This is an Olympic sport after all.

Want your kid to be a pretend martial arts master? Become a "black belt" after 5 or 6 years? If that is the goal, you can get your kid into karate or tae kwon do or kung fu or whatever... Just make sure they don't try to use it in a fight with someone who can actually fight. And do not expect them to get the same lessons in humility and respect that they will learn first hand in bjj. After going through countless phone calls and online searches, I found Meng's Martial Arts. Facility is clean, spacious and well maintained. Plenty of room for students to exercise and learn. Diverse class and Sifu Ryan usually has an extra set of helpers/assistants to assist the students. The staff is very attentive and gives a lot of emotional and physical support. The Tiny Tiger program (ages 4-7 I think) meet 3 times a week, for 45 minutes which I believe is great in addition to their reasonable prices! The class is more than just being physical and learning self defense. My son has learned to be more respectful and disciplined, to have more self control and awareness. The instructor is great and we are happy our son is learning effective self defense techniques and respect, while having fun and getting exercise.
