When we arrived we noticed that there was not a lot of parking available. Maybe we just couldn't see further back behind the building but it didn't seem like there was going to be a lot of parking. We were kind of surprised that the theater was not completely full so not sure if just a lot of people drove in separate cars or what. We walked in and there was really no direction as to which way to go to enter the theater area. We finally asked somebody, who graciously directed us to the correct door. It was easy to find our seats and the seats were comfortable, even as slightly larger people. Not long after we arrived the play began. I had no idea what we were in for with this play but quickly found that it was lighthearted and funny. Just like any play or show, there were areas that I liked better and there were areas that I did not like as much. I really struggled with was the use of a shotgun in one of the scenes. Just two days prior a student at Oxford high school shot numerous classmates and staff, tragically killing 4 of the students. It was hard to laugh at the comedy that was associated with the scene knowing the horrific violence that just occurred two days prior less than 40 miles from us. As I write this review three days later, I still struggle with that scene in the play as my heart continues to ache for the young souls lost in Oxford.

Inside, the smell of freshly popped popcorn will greet you as you make your way into the lobby/foyer. Despite the ornate gold fixtures and red velvet curtains in the auditorium that speak to the theatre's bygone days, it's now a family-friendly place so popcorn as a snack option is a hit. Ticket prices are reasonable so the whole family can experience live theatre without breaking the bank. The matinee performances on Saturdays and Sundays are perfect for kids and birthday parties are a regular event. At the end of performances, after curtain calls, the cast announce the names of the birthday boys and girls and everyone, including the audience, sings happy birthday. Community theatre is a wonderful way to showcase local talent and it's fun to see such an active group alive and well in historic Northville.

During my time with the company (two mainstage productions and one cabaret over about a year and a half), I saw a clear divide between the quality of the performances and the care for the people creating them. After I reported a more serious recent incident to members of leadership, it was deflected and ultimately ignored. In a follow-up call with a board member, he emphasized that their priority was "getting shows on stage," not addressing what happens between cast members offstage. That response made it clear that actor/performer safety and accountability are not treated as part of their responsibilities. From the outside, the organization looks polished and community-oriented. Inside, it lacks consistent, transparent leadership when harm occurs, and more troublingly, behind the curtain in rehearsals and offstage. The company prioritizes polished productions and familiar faces over genuine community. Long-standing contributors, especially skilled musicians or directors who have been around for years - also seem to operate without accountability. When serious issues arise, leadership's focus stays on keeping shows running and maintaining optics, not on addressing harm. This makes it difficult for newer members like myself to feel safe or valued. Connections at this theater stay surface-level because the culture doesn't encourage honesty or care beyond the stage. The theater's attention to sets, ticket sales, and production value is clear, but that same energy is rarely shown for the well-being of the people creating the work. New or prospective members/actors should be mindful of this culture and take care to understand how leadership handles concerns before committing their time energy, and talents here.

My son was crushed and cried his way to school this morning because he found out that he was…read moredismissed from the 'School of Rock Farmington' by the new owner Chris, for nothing that my son did. Chris, without any notice or discussion with us, decided to dismiss my son from the school this morning, because I responded to a SoR customer survey that he didn't like. My concern and issue was mainly with the new ownership who I believe has changed the 'School of Rock Farmington' from a music loving family culture to a money focused operation that takes advantage of the love we have for our kids. Shortly after Chris took over the Farmington location, my first conversation with him consisted with him telling me how poorly the school used to be run by the prior management and how he was going to make everything bigger and better. Soon after the ownership change, Eric, the former GM, along with many other staff members that we loved, were gone. While I really didn't like the changes that I was seeing, I eventually decided to ignore it because my son was so in love with drumming. And most recently, I had an "interaction" with Chris over paying cover for two young kids that we had in our group from this past Sunday's mid-season concert. When I asked him why our 6 yr old daughter and her 6 yr old cousin needed to pay for cover (because little kids didn't need to pay before), Chris immediately got defensive and angrily told me that since he became the owner at Farmington everyone needed to pay no matter how young. Then he went onto tell me how expensive it was for him to run the shows and called me "petty" for even bringing this up. My son really loved the school and all of his teachers and friends he made so far at SoR Farmington. He really fell in love with drumming and really fell in love with music, which I credit the prior SoR management, and all former and current teachers and staff members for. My son and my family loved the program and would like to thank everyone at 'School of Rock Farmington' that looked after him. He's currently heart broken, but I'm hopeful that he will find a better school that looks out more for the kids than their own ego and bottom line. P.S. My brother-in-law emailed Chris this morning (without me knowing) because our whole family is heartbroken right now. Chris responded back saying that he will have my son back in his school as long as I changed my review score to an 8. I have no intentions of making any compromises and don't need to have my son back at his money/review hungry institution. I hope Chris well too and wish him luck as he tries to make a ton of money off the kids that just wants to love music.
