Everything tasted fresh and homemade. They didn't fill the burrito with mostly potatoes like other places would to maximize profits. This was the real deal in breakfast burritos. I wish I had taken pictures, but it was just a nasty, congealed looking mess-- not even close to the picture advertised. The cheese sauce was a pale greyish yellow and just not appetizing looking at all, and was hardened like rotel dip that sits out too long and develops that film processed cheese tends to develop. I only live 10 minutes away, so it was shocking to see the presentation. The Buffalo chicken was not coated well in Buffalo sauce. Lots of gaps where you could see the normal plain breading. Buffalo chicken wrap: First, it was just made incorrectly. Zero Buffalo sauce so I thought perhaps I had received the other wrap which has ranch in it. No ranch either. It was wrapped very poorly/loosely and even with toothpicks the contents just immediately fell out. The wrap itself was very dry. 60% tortilla, 30% iceberg lettuce, 10% chicken. Spicy turkey wrap: Much the same presentation as the Buffalo wrap. Totally messy but this one happened to be drenched in dressing. Also the same issue with portions within the wrap. Very little turkey and cheese and the bottom third of the wrap had neither-- it was all tortilla and lettuce. My husband had made that comment all on his own before I could point it out. He DID say the flavor wasn't bad though. Corn dog nuggets: Hard to mess up something that was probably just taken out of a box in the freezer. Edible. Cottage cheese: Decent portion but also hard to mess up when it's a ready-made item. Tator tots: A mushy mess. I get it, potatoes get soggy. I would fully expect it if I lived 20 or 30 minutes away but again, I live 10 maybe less away. Thank goodness my air fryer saved them otherwise I honestly think I would have thrown it away. Containers: I normally never ever comment on the packaging food comes in, but wow was it bad. They use some kind of most likely recycled paper product versus Styrofoam. On one hand. Better for the environment. On the other hand. Any dish with moisture or steam causes the packaging to collapse and not hold its shape. The packaging could BARELY hold the weight of the mac and cheese and I had to support the bottom with two hands so it wouldn't collapse and spill out to one side or the other. This place has many other decent reviews so I'm not blind to the fact that my bad experience might be a fluke but really there was just no part of this meal that even tempts me to try it again. Having spent some time in L.A., Flying Stove got it right, with a truck, attitude, and culinary chops that pull it off reasonably well. They do things like Thai tacos, vegetarian tostones, and truffle fries. For example, I went to that event recently at the Ice Center where all three of Wichita's food trucks were gathered for charity or something. In the one corner, you had The Flying Stove, serving umami burgers with a parmesan crisp, sugar snow peas, and rosemary potatoes. Not stuff you expect to find in a truck in Wichita! Right next to them was BS Sandwich Press, which featured things like... sandwiches. Don't get me wrong, the basil turkey was all well and good (maybe not quite as pressed as it should have been, and the freshly-made chips were fine (definitely not as fried as they should have been), but you're throwing a panini press and a Fry Daddy into the back of a trailer and calling it a food truck. It's not even really a truck. It's a trailer. And if BS Sandwich Press gets to be called a food truck, then Wichita has had food trucks for years serving Mexican treats throughout the city. Again, I like sandwiches as much as the next person, but I'm not going to chase down a truck to get some cold cuts. The challenge of a food truck is finding something unique and portable to attract an audience. Chimichurri fries. Whoopie pies. Cheeseburger dumplings. We're getting diminishing returns here, and if people think the only requisite to become a part of the food truck culture is to renovate a trailer and hit the road, the city isn't really much better off.
