By far the best coffee place in the Annapolis/SP Area. I'm not saying all the other places are awful or anything like that but in my mind this particular coffee shop stands out from the rest. They serve awesome java and at the same time have super friendly customer service. I know this first hand because I watched them greet each customer that came in as if they'd known it other for 30 years. They literally know everyone by name and the kind of coffee/drink they prefer. They even had cool nicknames for each drink like "Java Jenny", "Eddie Espresso" and "Vacuum Bill". I was blown away. Bottom Line: A cute local shop with friendly baristas serving coffee, tea and other concoctions. Yay local business! What a cute little place. I can't claim to be a connoisseur or either coffee or tea, but I do really enjoy both, and particularly tea. Initially I went here because someone at the gym had some awesome smelling black tea. As I entered The Big Bean, I learned that they had many varieties of tea - both bags and loose. I knew I wanted to loose but still needed help deciding. The staff showed me their tea labeling system (black, green, etc.) and was able to eloquently describe the different teas. (Don't worry, no one was behind me in line!) I also got to take a whiff of a few teas before picking one out. Not only was my tea delish, the overall experience was quaint and friendly. Mmm, and now I am officially craving some Big Bean tea. read more

I love The Big Bean. The staff is SO friendly and genuine and they are so familiar and close with their regulars. Which they have plenty of. It's not difficult, even on your first visit here, to see why. Now,I'm not a big coffee drinker. I do enjoy my random cup here and now but I'm more of a tea person. Which they have plenty to choose from for sale. But what I really like there is their Hot Cider. Though,you may want to give it several minutes to cool because it is definitely hot. They also have a good selection of food to order. And ,monster finger puppets. (I'm weird) All in all, this place is awesome. And,it's right next to Sofies Crepes. Double trouble for me. read more

I love this place. The coffee, the service, and the price. It's a nice little shop with delightful coffee. They have a featured latte everyday and the ones I have tried have not disappointed me. I've also tried the Mexican mocha and it was delicious. My kids love their fruit smoothies. It's decent price and certainly better than Starbucks. The staff is always friendly. Stopped in on a Saturday morning for my coffee fix. Cute shop filled with people chatting away. You will definitely meet someone new here! After getting to the front of the line, the owner introduced herself, took my order and then took the time to ask me about my plans for the day. It was a nice touch. I got the vanilla latte and it was excellent. I'm trying to get away from the big chain coffee brands and support local shops. This one is a must! Afterwards, I checked out their outdoor patio area and the trail right behind the shop. Highly recommend checking them out. read more

This is for the new Annapolis location only, second time I been there; first time not to bad but sluggish service. Today I went down before meeting someone about 12:30 , nobody but myself in the store except for a lady who had been serviced and proceeded to have about a 10 min bull sht session with the manager. Right when I was going to say something, both looked at me and said sorry in a snotty way. The lady who was manager said we girls need our chat sessions!! I did get a nirto which was good but this ended my buying anything at this location. read more

VISIT THIS PLACE!! This coffee shop has the best oat matcha latte I've ever had, and their hot London fog is also remarkable. I drive 30mins just for this place on my day off, and they also have really good sandwiches and small desserts. I've tried everything from their chipotle panini to their muffins, and everything has been super good. read more

I met a friend here at 11. I've never been here before and didn't read any reviews before I went. They have a big coffee menu. Pretty much anything you can imagine plus bulletproof coffee and tea and hot chocolate. They had a decent selection of pastries and I was hungry so I got a chocolate chip muffin and a toasted praline latte because it was up as a special and I was feeling uncreative. The latte was delicious. Thick, rich, and creamy. The muffin was good but the chocolate chips were only on top, which I was a little disappointed in. It was a nice spot and much better than larger chains I've been to. Apparently it's right on the trail so a future trip with a bike might be in order once it warms up because I'm a little bit of a cold weenie. read more

All of their coffee products I have tried have knocked my socks off. They always have a good selection of pastries which are dee-licious. Highly recommend over any other coffee shop. What a cute, delightful place! While I was staying in Severna Park I came here several times. Everyone is super friendly, not quite Natalie-Portman-in-the-SNL-Jamba-Juice-skit super friendly, but close! They were also running an Oscars voting contest while I was there, and they let me know where they keep the soy milk so I could grab it myself. You can tell that the owners are very community-oriented, perfect for this little suburban neighborhood. We went here for breakfast Sunday morning. We were sans kid, so took the opportunity to try a local place. It was pretty nice. The coffee was good. I wish the pastry/breakfast selections were bigger but it's a small shop. (I was jonesing for either a cinnamon roll or breakfast sandwich.) The service was quick and friendly. The bagels and muffins were clearly fresh. The coffee was good. Hubby is more of a coffee person than me and wants to go back to try their other coffee options. Coffee purists beware: The Big Bean is NOT a specialty coffee kind of place. I had to explain the ration of espresso:milk:foam for a cappuccino, and then it was served to me in a small paper cup (I mean a "free water" paper cup. Plain white. I don't know why, but it just felt cheap). Tasted Starbucks-esque, ie bitter and burnt. They don't have anything lighter than a medium, medium-dark roast for regular coffee brewing, either. It's sad that yet another coffee shop has decided that charring a coffee of its flavor is the best way to partake. But I will say that, for what it is, I liked it. They have some very delicious sugary espresso drinks, and their choice of flavored coffee was impressive. The barista was friendly and, even though she probably thought I was insane, listened to my directions when I told her how my cappuccino should be. Their mugs and memorabilia caught my sister-in-law's eye. There was some good looking stuff, but it wasn't quite my style. Honestly, I had hoped that I could find a good specialty coffee place nearer to me than Annapolis. Unfortunately it wasn't in the cards this time. However, I will return to The Big Bean for what they specialize in: sweet-tooth satiating coffee drinks. read more

I recently moved to Severna Park and my new roommates weren't lying when they said this was the finest coffee establishment in town. The kindness of the sweet sweet staff was out of this world. They made me the BEST mocha ever. They even gave me extra whip cream, I felt like it was truly my special day. Shout out to Val at The Big Bean! She had me try Almond Milk Vanilla in my latte to save on calories. I tried for a few times but just wasn't liking the vanilla in the almond milk. I asked her if she carried Almond milk without the vanilla and she told me regretfully no, so I just switched back to my normal skim milk. I walked in today and what do you know, Val was there with a gallon of new Almond milk without Vanilla (just for me, hee hee!) Recently read a book, "Hug your Customers", and she did just that today and I'm very grateful. read more

This little "Mom & Pop" coffee shop is very colorful, has a very friendly staff and makes a good cup of joe. There was free wifi (pretty fast too) but I'm not sure it was the shops because the name was rather strange. It worked though... There was a steady stream of regulars coming in while I was here so I would guess it is consistently good. read more

Highly recommend this place. The 1st sign(literally) that you are at a place designed for convenience and purpose is a notification to bicyclists to fill up on water. Staff are super friendly, very easy on the eyes, and creative. I wanted a butter rum macchiato but they were out of the syrup so we substituted butter scotch and peacan. Great alternative. Also introduced my daughter to Mexican chocolate in hit chocolate form. Excellence!! read more

Ok, I'm not a coffee drinker. So my opinion may be a tad suspect. But I do love this place. I had to take my girlfriend here numerous times to meet people for work. While here I sampled the teas. They make good tea! Ok, so what, right? How hard is it to make tea? But there's more. The place has a very pleasant atmosphere. There are snacks and such to go along with the coffee and tea. And my favorite, there is a bookshelf. Bring a book and take a book. It's kind of a mini library. Just don't rip them off. If you want a book, bring one to leave on the shelf! Seriously though, this is a great little coffee house. It's got a great location in the heart of Severna, close to everything else in the area. Very convenient. We always missed Bradley Food & Beverage in Bethesda when we moved up County, until we were introduced to The Bean Bag - Robyn and Mitchell. WOW! It's as if we never left home. Amazing sandwich combinations, unbelievable soups, wonderful cookies and more. We also learned that they cater so when a friend lost their loved one we sent a deli platter to their home. This was years ago but we still hear about that platter all the time. Think of them for lunch, catering and platters. read more

I came here for the first time yesterday when riding my bike along the B&A Trail. The folks working in the store were super friendly and came out with more chairs for the group and offered to fill up our water bottles with ice which was a huge treat on a super hot day.
