Cocina en Cantilado - Baked scallops

It was a few minutes away from the whale shark watching where we were prior so we definitely came in hungry lol The restaurant was by the road so it was easy to spot. They also have parking space so that was convenient. Be aware that the restaurant is an open one so there is no air-conditioning but they did provide us with a fan which really helped from that hot July weather. Some of the items on the menu were not available at that time like their pizzas but otherwise the rest of the filipino food were. The scallops were good but I guess it came a bit to buttery/margarine-y (lol) for me. Good nonetheless. The pork belly was tasty as usual but my favorite was the crispy pata which the staff mentioned was also one of their best sellers. Perfectly seasoned and cooked! Crispy and meaty at the same time. Writing about it is actually making me hungry. There was one on the menu which was a tad too salty but i forgot which one it was. Anyway overall we had a good and filling meal which was what we were looking for. Clean space, good food, very nice staff and had a wonderful view of Oslob's blue waters. Just be careful coz the "nest" is by the cliff, thus where they most likely got the restaurant name of "Cantilado" from.

Our mixed group of adults, children, Filipinos and Canadians all enjoyed the meal. the crocodile sisig is a nice novelty dish (their specialty) and i was not at all disappointed. it was very good!! I easily recommend this restaurant for anyone intereted in Filipino food and travelling in the area for the famous Oslob whale shark watching tour. 10/10

It comes with rice and a papaya side dish. We also ordered kinilaw to share. So good. And the chicken is juicy with a fabulous marinade on it. The kinilaw is very much the Filipino version of ceviche. Light and refreshing. We also got halo halo. Decent. Not the best I've had but it's a good option. Could use more toppings. Still refreshing to eat on a hot day! They have hand washing stations outside which is helpful since the food is sticky and a bit messy to eat. Tons of covered seating here with great views of the ocean.

This is one of the most awesome views I've ever had from a restaurant. I simply don't like the food as much as the Bayawan branch. I think this is because they served their coke in cans whole Bayawan served theirs in glass bottles. A very picturesque setting that was ruined by horrible canned Cokes. The only Cokes that are worth a damn are Mexican Coke. The Philippines should take note. Mexico made Coke only use Mexican sugar in their Coke. Their glass bottles Cokes tastes OK. The canned Coke is HORRIBLE. They both list "Sugar and/or High Fructose Corn Syrup" I still think that is why everybody in America has diabetes. Unrelated I know. I just hate bad coke.

Harolds Rooftop Cafe is located, yes you guessed it, on the rooftop of Harolds Mansion in beautiful…read moreDumaguete! What makes this place great for me are the people, the warm reception and the 'all heart' approach which shines through the picking and choosing of mixed Western and Filipino dishes on their menu spread catering to tourists from all over the world. We met families from France, based in Manila for work, who were staying at the Hostel for a couple of days as they planned their trip around Harold's extensive island trip privileges and all so affordable, like swimming with their giant turtles around Apo island. I will have a different review specifically on that experience. (Harold, the owner of the hostel and cafe) operates/owns a diving and snorkelling expedition with his shop just by the entrance of the hostel where you can book day trips and rent gear for whatever activity you choose. We had the chance to meet Harold a couple of times as he is also based in L.A but was in town for a vacay. Harold is a gregarious local who ensures your stay in Dumaguete is gravitated outside the walls of his cafe/hostel which is why his love for the open water seeps through his warm smile as he passionately shares his virtuous take on salt water adventures that will entice visitors within the Philippines and from all over the world. Diving trips has a more intricate process as there are open water courses and certificates before your first dive with the crew. (Again will go into detail on a different review) I just wanted to give readers an insight of how Harolds Rooftop Cafe is the start and end to a fun filled day. My favourite picks from the menu are the Adobong Tuna and veggie lumpias. You cannot NOT have adobo when you visit the Philippines. Adobo is the ultimate dish which has all the fixings of garlic, soy sauce and vinegar simmered to perfection with seasonings to heighten the tenderness of any meat of your choosing, in this case the tuna. Sooooooo GOOOD! The second show stopper for me was the veggie lumpias and this cafe serves them BIG AND BOLD and stuffed to the max, fried to the perfect level of crisp and washing all that down with some ice cold beer while your wifi connection has a speed advantage on that rooftop so FaceTime with the parents was uninterrupted as I showcased my sun set view and authentic, good tasting grub. I mean everything else on their menu is portioned unsparingly compared to other restaurants in the area and you can't go wrong with quality. Price point on meals is important especially when your travel budget includes island hopping, travelling with family and excursions. Everything adds up quickly when you're on vacay mode so it's best to know places where it won't disappoint pockets and taste buds.

There really isnt a lot of parking available, but as long as you can fit your car in a spot, youre good. There have definitely grown a lot in the many years of my absence. I remember it was an all outdoor setting and the restaurant was still halfway through the field. Now, it takes up the entire lot with a second story spaces and airconditioned rooms and private rooms. I dont ever recall having a turo turo/ karenderia setting, but its there now and its the same as the food as they serve in the menu. Like most restaurants here, they have a place to wash their hands that is outside of the restrooms which makes it super convenient and you dont have to crowd the restrooms for that. Also, you can fill your own water pitchers or glasses at their self serve water station just beside the hand washing station. They were all very attentive to us. We had over a party of 15 of all ages and everyone was pretty fed and satisfied.
