As much as I would love to give the Bishop a higher rating I just can't bring myself to, let me explain.... I have been here several times and I have to say the food is fantastic, a bit more fancy than your normal pub grub. The burgers in particular have never failed to disappoint! So, all credit to the guys they have working in the kitchen. Now the reason for my 2 star review is all because of the service (or lack of) in this place. Every single time I have been here it has taken ages to even be acknowledged by one of their table staff, even on quiet days. There was one occasion where we had been waiting for quite some time, so I walked over to the waiting staff (they were having a chat) and asked if I could order some food to which I got the reply "oh we do table service here, take a seat and someone will be with you", could have fooled me..... On most visits it has taken quite some time to get the bill after asking for it too. If the service thing was a once off then fair enough, but it has happened on every visit. To the point now where my girlfriend and I don't want to give them our business, so we go elsewhere, which hurts because I really love their burgers! As mentioned before it's a real shame that this place lets it down with the service as the food is so nice, and the pub itself has a nice feel to it. I am really not being overly fussy about the service, I am not expecting silver service! I myself have worked in a restaurant and I know how hard a job it can be, but I'm only being honest in my personal experiences of this place. read more

I've never actually been here at night to drink - only daytime for a soda or a meal. I would imagine it gets crazy at night, but during the day, I love sitting in the comfortable window seats with the sun streaming in on you - a lovely place to relax. Or outdoors in the seating there, if you've got smoker friends. Had lunch here the other day and was shocked by the quality of the food. I guess I always expect pub food to be - well - pub food. But this was proper restaurant quality food, and high grade at that. I had amazing bacon and turkey lasagne, which sounds like a weird combo, but somehow works. My friend had the macaroni and cheese, also amazing, any my other friend had the burger, which had no hidden surprises but looked incredibly well done. I would actually make a voyage to this place any time for a midday meal. The prices are about what you'd expect (9 quid for a meal I think?) and well worth it. Service is friendly and relaxed. And there's an awesome gray dog named Clarence that lives there and will hang out with you. And the toilets are even clean. I popped into here today for the sweet potato and puy lentil burger as well as a pumpkin and sage cake listed on the online menu. I was pretty disappointed the latter had been removed but the waiter was very apologetic and offered me tea on the house. I got the burger without a bun and chips. The burger is smaller than I hoped for at 11.50 quid but it's pretty tasty. The very good taste of the sweet potato and lentils sticks out, and the tiny piece of halloumi fried? grilled? atop is a complement. read more

Friday night was maybe not the best time for a first visit here as it was clearly a popular haunt & therefore rammed, with everyone seemingly intent on not having the background music (which seemed to be at a reasonable volume) intrude on their conversations. The bar itself was well stocked & the two ales sampled were in good condition so no complaints there. The menu was perused & looked suitably wide ranging but in the end the cacophony of our fellow punters drove us onwards to more sedate pastures. A good sized establishment & probably one to come back to when less busy for a more rounded opinion. read more

Whilst visiting my best pal in East Dulwich we always find the time to pop in here for a chat and a catch up. It's a large, trendy bar with lots of seating, including an outside smoking area. The staff and manager are very friendly and the owners dog that just casually wanders over to say hi is so cute and friendly and helps create a relaxed atmosphere. Credit as well to the great food, 3 of us ate for under £30 with sides, the food was all freshly made and was very good and the table service with it was great. We always leave before it gets too busy but as an afternoon venue I think it's one of the best in the area. read more

This pub is great: lovely decor but unpretentious, great food but not overpriced - and they let dogs in!! If I still lived on Lordship Lane I'm sure I'd be there every week, as it is it's the place I always suggest to friends if they want to meet East Dulwich-wards. I spent a most enjoyable birthday at The Bishop last year, supping cider with friends on a Sunday evening. It gets crazy busy on Fridays and Saturdays, as it should, but weeknights and Sundays are good for a chilled out drink or two. If you don't have your own pooch to play with the pub dog is very friendly. read more

I've been here drinking in the evening on a Friday and it's a great venue. It's got a good, lively, vibe, but not too boisterous. Definitely a great place to go for a drink. I've now also eaten here during the day. Unfortunately the pub plays the same evening music during the day which rather sours your simple pub grub meal and chat on the weekend with friends. That said, the food is tasty and relatively good value. If they'd only turn down the music a tad for the daytime revellers, then it would earn 5 stars. read more

A brilliant local pub. The staff are all well trained and friendly. The landlords gorgeous dog and very non intrusive dog can often be seen sitting in the window seats. The pub has great music and good food, their sunday roasts are really good. As it is very popular you do have to book for eating. The window seats are particularly nice. Would recommend to anyone who is visiting East Dulwich. one other great thing .they have loads of girls cubicles in the toilets so you never have to queue! read more

Ahh, the Bish. Love it. Especially on a Sunday afternoon when I can usually be found sipping a good Sauvignon Blanc, from a nice glass (very important), in one of the window seats. Table service for drinks is always a winner and the staff are all so friendly. The resident pooch is a bit indifferent it might raise an eyebrow when you plonk yourself down by its side, but that's about it. Food is good but it does get busy. My only complaint it the NOISE (sorry, music). It's not somewhere to go for a chat on a Saturday night, which is a shame. read more

When visiting my best friend in East Dulwich this is the first place we pop into. Not just because this smart, young bar is a fantastic place to sit and chat with friends with affordable drinks and a really good food menu but because the owners dog is so cute and usually comes over to say hello. The bar is very deep with small outside area and situated by many good bars but is by far the best. read more

This place is hot. Awesome staff and service. The pie was amazing! Try the pie for 2.

A very busy pub, but nonetheless a mainstay of any true pub-crawl along Lordship Lane. The Oyster and Guinness special is a must for newcomers. The Bar is well stocked and the pub itself is well maintained with a number of helpful Bar Staff on hand. It is also one of the few pubs on Lordship to serve real draught ale which is a bonus. read more

I never liked the look of this place from the outside but it's not bad after all. It is a fairly standard drinking place, but they have some rather fun high tables and chairs in the window so you feel like a tiny person when you sit there. I remember them having quite interesting christmas decorations last year too. Probably worth a visit if you're in the area, but nothing special. read more

I love this pub. The food is lovely, the staff are nice, it has a good patio area, and it just has a really relaxed, laid back, easy vibe. In short, my favourite pub in East Dulwich. A great place to come for a quiet drink with friends and family. read more

The Bishop is another of Lordship Lanes recently renovated bars/pubs. Try and walk past on a Friday night and the heaving bar is spilling out onto the road, I however am not such a fan. The Bishop is too new, impersonal and formulaic for me. Ok for meeting up with friends but personally I would never choose to go here for the bar itself. read more

The Bishop is one of my fav pubs in ED, friendly staff, good food, good atmosphere, prob the best pub in ED ....well done folks!

The service here leaves a lot to be desired. It took almost 2 hours to order and get a burger which came out cold. We were consistently ignored by staff and there appeared to be no management present to keep things in order. read more
