This was a known shutdown but was not reflected on hotels.com. This is a major amenity so without it the cost should be adjusted. 2) The only available reservation to visit the Thermae spa, one of their partners, was 9-11am the morning of checkout. I asked the front desk if we could extend checkout to just 12pm to accommodate. They said yes but it was going to be an extra 10£. I could see if we were asking for a late checkout on a busy weekend but it was a Monday morning, not known for being a busy check in day for hotels. 3) I was supposed to receive a welcome drink per hotels.com but they did not offer one and no easy way to reference that that was owed per my reservation.

It was exactly that! It was decorated magnificently with a unique art painting on the wall, clean and had a lovely view of Great Pultenay Street. We were on the top floor and didnt hear any road noise and we had the window open all night.The finishing touches are spot on, Dyson hairdryer, pillow menu, large flat screen tv with Sky channels, fancy coffee maker and to top it off a surprise 'Happy anniversary' card and complemantary glass of prosecco for my husband and I. The staff are all very nice, friendly, and helpful but the hotel is clearly understaffed. We ordered afternoon tea in the lobby and it took 45 minutes for the sandwiches, scones and pastries to arrive, by which time the tea was already cold. The rooms are very small and cramped although the bathrooms and amenities were top class. Several bulbs in the light fixtures were burned out. We reserved a bedroom with two twin beds and when shown the room, there was a double bed in the room and a small room next-door with a sofa bed. When the sofa bed was set up, there was hardly room to get by it to close the shutters. The assistant manager, who is really a very nice person, brought up an additional lamp to replace the bedside lamp which was shorted. Plugged it in and it shorted immediately with a spark. It labels itself as an "art" hotel and is the most incredibly over decorated hotel I have ever been in. We very politely informed the management of the shortcomings. They comped the wine we ordered at dinner in their sister hotel, The Abbey and credited us 50 pounds so they are trying hard but I would wait until they sorted out the electrical issues before staying there. I stayed for 3 nights, though pool and fitness room were closed due to Covid restrictions and lack of staffing, in very comfortable room on 1st floor level... So no grand view. My room was tidied up daily which was lovely!! Also they provide shampoo and shower gel along with tea and coffee in room- Electric tea pot. Iron, ironing board and hair dryer. Note: no wash cloths so bring your own. Restaurant in Hotel is called Keeper that provides full bar and balance meals on menu. English Breakfast bar for 10# when you have hotel room or 15# other wise mate. Quite of variety for buffet but I give it 3 stars as wait time for breakfast items to refill so breakfast took a bit more time. Staff service is pleasant and kind even with mask restrictions. The window wouldn't open so it was either suffocate in a stuffy room or deal with the noisy AC. One of the elevators wasn't working, the one that did, periodically smelled like sewage and they were both missing buttons. On a positive note, the hotel was in a good location, did have parking (which was very tight) and was next to the Registry Office. We won't be staying here again when we return to Bristol.

We made separate bookings with different names and credit card details but asked to be sat together for dinner and breakfast. I was delighted to see the lovely waiter Julian (I thought he was the Maître d') from our recent visit in reception to check us in with a warm welcome. Luciano (he said he was called Guy) however, was aloof and not welcoming at all. At a later stage I asked him if it was possible to look at one of the bedrooms in the main house (we were staying in the lovely 'annexe') either to pay for an upgrade or to book for a future visit. Luciano said that was not possible as all rooms were occupied. Lie number one. Another member of staff said the hotel was not full and with further investigation, we could book a room there and then online. One of our party went into the restaurant before the rest of us. When the three of us tried to join her at the table, Luciano said she was not there and we had to wait. When we pointed out she was sat down he appeared reluctant to let us in. He did not welcome us with 'Good evening' or similar salutation, he didn't tell us what was unavailable or ask about any allergies. He tried to rush us to choose our menu and due to it's limited choice, we were struggling what to choose. We ordered our starter and asked for time to choose our main course. Luciano told us we needed to hurry up as the table was needed at 8.30.........another lie as there was always a spare table and by 8.30pm most people had been served. No one came to our table until 40 minutes later when we asked if we could order our main course. At this point Luciano aggressively told us he had cancelled our earlier starter orders. He spent his time trying to up sell the main/steak with £10 supplement and as the 3 mains were not accompanied with a side dish, he was too bent on trying to get us to pay an extra £5 for each of the small side dishes. With wine starting at £46 and cocktails at £15 we felt we'd spent enough for poor service. I commented on Luciano's poor manner, after which he reinforced his aggression and arrogance. I asked for our table to be served by Julian which Luciano took objection to and refused to engage in that request. In fact he went a stage further in his rudeness by saying Julian was his junior and not in a position to make decisions. I found this to be utterly unprofessional especially as Julian proved more than capable of running the restaurant at our previous visit. We had to suffer the downright rude attitude of Luciano who just about slammed the bottle of wine down on the table. He did not pour any wine or ask us to try it. The four of us had bought a Wowcher voucher for our stay which stated it included a welcome cocktail. When asked for, we were told it was not included. Another lie. I had arranged with Julian for our bar bills to be split between the two rooms which he arranged and did for us. However, when it came to settling the bill at the end of the meal Luciano refused to divide the bill and said it could not be done. He deliberately made things difficult for us and we said we would go to one of the lounges for a last drink and sort the bill out. Luciano shouted out "You are a typical Wowcher guest who won't pay their bill". How rude and wrong was he. At no point did anyone suggest we wouldn't pay. We saw Marco in the lounge next to ours and wanted to talk to him about the appalling service but he denied he was Marco!!!! How pitiful is that. We were told we could not have another drink until we paid the bill. We had had enough of Luciano at this point and said we were going to bed and would sort out the bill in the morning. It was not until we complained at breakfast about Luciano were we told that he is Marco's son. This explains his arrogant and entitled attitude. After a wonderful breakfast served by Julian this morning, we went to reception to check out. When I said we needed to settle the bill Luciano told me there was no need as everything had been put on my credit card last night! He lied again about not having the bill split ( after all we were separate bookings) and told us that in the 5 months of working there we were the rudest customers he's met. And he commented on the fact that we hadn't given him a tip. The biggest tip I can give Luciano is to leave the industry he clearly is unsuited to. All I can say is he hasn't met a really rude guest as we were far from rude. We spoke home truths as opposed to his lies. Interestingly, other guests in the dining room overheard our complaints and told us they also found Luciano very arrogant and rude. What is so disheartening is having got home I have read so many reviews many of which are of a similar vein complaining about Luciano presenting as entitled, rude, arrogant and telling lies.

I was in room 3 which overlooks the Market Street (although no Market) and another local Public House. Nice plesant public areas including a recently refurbished restaurant which is relatively modern but still in-keeping with this old building. There is also a bar area where lots of the locals enjoy a wide selection of drinks including 4 cask ales, 4 draught lagers and Guinness, as well as a local Cider (Ashton Press). The Front of House Staff are all very friendly and accommodating namely Nicola, Emillia, AJ and Flo. The owner of the property is frequently on site and ensures everyone is made to feel at home (David). The food is good, many dishes cooked in-house and mostly 'to-order'. I couldn't find anything negative to say about this property and (I for one) will be back , they are gradually refurbishing the hotel and what has been done to date is nice and tastefull. Well worth a visit, the room rates are excellent, and includes freshly cooked breakfast to individually placed orders.

I always appreciate when this service is available because there's such a disconnect between when you have to check out of a hotel (usually 10:30am or 11am) and when you can check into a hotel (usually 2pm or later). Our room was really stylish, sort of a modern Marie Antoinette vibe. It was a definite departure from all the old-fashioned B&Bs that dominate England. Some might say the room was on the small side, and it was probably the smallest room we stayed in during the trip - although not by much in some cases. My husband and I both prefer small spaces anyway (which is why we were able to live in a New York City studio for a year and still be in love), so this wasn't a problem for us at all. The staff were friendly when we dealt with them, which wasn't much since everything went smoothly.
