Cool little brewery in Champaign. It has a pretty good selection of beers to choose from. The Blind Pig is an old school looking place. Great for those looking for a more interesting place for a drink. Has no food but they let you bring in some from outside. After eating we headed here for a drink. It wasn't that busy and we were able to get seated at the bar and able to enjoy the place. This is an old looking place but it's not that old of a business, they just used a lot of old wood. Has a small but good selection of beers. It's about $5 a pint. Best was the U Of IPA. This had notes of light caramel, orange marmalade, orange peel, and pine. Had another location near this that was a little bigger. It seems like they might have closed that one. The only bad thing is there's no food except potato chips but you can bring some in though. read more

The Blind Pig Brewery is a really cool stop in Champaign that is away from the college bar atmosphere. All of the surrounding wood decor plus decoration mixed with dim lighting create a cool spot for a relaxed ambience. It's so cool and unique - sitting at the bar feels like you've been transported into another country and into a bar that's hundreds of years old. They did a great job creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. I didn't realize there is a second bar in the back - this place is huge, don't let the smaller, intimate looking front portion fool you. My favorite Chambana brewery, this cozy pub feels like stepping into the UK or a story book. Beautiful polished wood everywhere and decorated in a very quaint fashion. The beer is just as good as the venue. They rotate fairly often and dont expect to spend much as pints are generally $5 or less. Highly recommend for a night out with friends. read more

Best place to get a good variety of beer in town. The beer brewed in house can be hit or miss but I appreciate that kind of experimentation in a brew pub. I also always secretly wished they served food but if they did, I'd probably never leave! In my opinion, the best night to check it out is Tuesday and Wednesday for mug night. They charge $4 for a mug, and then you get $2 off each tap (unless otherwise noted). A lot of the drafts end up being 50% off! After two drinks, you've already paid off the mug. Keep in mind that unlike other mug clubs, they do not replace the broken mugs for free. If you break it, you must buy another one. I've had a friend who had a faulty mug, one that split down the middle right where the two halves of the mug were attached, and they still wouldn't replace it. But, the mugs are cheap so I guess it's not a bad deal. read more

We went about 4pm on Friday. The place was not busy as there was only us, the bartender and the 2 people that brew. We enjoyed the dark beer they had on tap and the bartender was very nice. I also was able to talk to the 2 brewers about brewing. Not a fan of the parking in the area. Our only vehicle is a 22' pickup that doesn't really fit into a parking spot. The Blind Pig Brewery is absolutely amazing! I reached out to them while planning my sister's bachelorette party to see if they could accommodate our group and potentially do a private tasting. Karen was incredible to work with and extremely flexible while working with me. She and her team set up a private tasting of 4 different beers that incorporated our preferences. They opened up the brewery an hour early for us and it was such a fun and interactive experience. Afterward, they let us stay and bring in food from a nearby restaurant. It was the highlight of the bachelorette party. We had such a good time and the beers were all unique and delicious! Would highly recommend going here for either an event or just to grab a few drinks with friends. read more

Definitely our favorite stop in Chamapign. Loved the decor and the atmosphere. Amazing beers as well. We stopped early in the day, so we were the only ones there, which made for a nice, quiet time. A nice local brewery. Do not get this place mixed up with The Blind Pig Company which is located around the corner. This place has the local craft brew and is strictly beer. Bartender said they do not really do cocktails but could mix something up for my friend that does not drink beer. Also, no food but the friendly bartender did recommend some nearby places to eat or get some food and bring back. I ordered a flight and they were all pretty good. I gave the porter, IPA, hefeweizen and raspberry wheat a try. All decent solid beers. I like the atmosphere inside. It reminded my of some the bars I visited in Belgium with the all the wood paneling and wood benches. There is a large outdoor patio which would be great in the summer time. If your visiting in the area, I would definitely recommend a stop to try some local beers. read more

One of the two Blind Pig locations, but this one brews their own beer as the other doesn't. Their beers rotate pretty consistently so you can pretty much always find something you like. Though it's smaller than the Pig on Walnut St., it has a great beer garden which provides some great outdoor seating. They have lots of trees planted and a variety of different foliage which makes for nice outdoorsy views even though it's in the heart of downtown. Overall, great place for a new, unique, and local beer. Also one of the best places in downtown Champaign to enjoy outdoor drinks. Highly recommended. read more

I like the ambiance better here, they have a cool look near the bar because all the tall canisters are lined up -- they brew their own beer there! (sorry not sure the official terminology for the fermentation vessels.) Bartender was super nice also. I ordered the Coffee Stout, soo yummy! I happened to have a peppermint candy with me, so I had that in my mouth while drinking the beer & it made it taste even better. They have a lot of wooden furniture, and many options for you to sit (in a booth, at the bar, or at a tall table with friends). It's definitely a casual feeling place, and I'm from the area so I know there are a lot of locals who come here. I always have so much fun at this place, but if you're looking for more of a "trendy" spot, this probably isn't the place to go. Perhaps try DESTIHL down the road. read more

I would love to be able to leave a great review but simply can't. Our party of three walked in on a Saturday late afternoon. We thought we might be greeted by the bartender but this was not the case. She was more concerned with her cell phone than helping us get seated. We found a table on our own and didn't know if we were to order at bar or if we would be waited on. The Blind Pig Brewery is located on beautiful and busy Neil Street. I must say this was a fantasic way to be welcomed into the Champaign/Urbana community and I'm very proud to be apart of it. We visited on a Friday after moving and discovered that this is a hot spot amongst locals and travelers alike. From the outside it is unsuspecting, yet upon entry is a lounge and pub type brewery; I hope in the summer there will be live music, as I heard someone mention it. I gave The Blind Pig five stars for three reasons; the decor, the ambiance and the brews- delicious. The decor is in the style of a pub and lounge, for me it felt very intimate and midwestern- a unique charm for the area and I liked the upstairs space with darts and another bar. Highly convenient in case it gets crowded, and the little bar lights reminded me of summer barbeques. Secondly, the ambiance was very relaxing and upbeat, you could hear music and great conversation at the same time- which is hard to find. Only as it got a little later did the patrons become loud, yet were still composed in public. Good patrons. The outdoor seating was packed, as I believe they share a space with another business- either way I'd love to try the outdoor area when I return. Lastly, the brews. One word; excellent. I'm more of a wine drinker, yet I do like the parellels that wine and beer share- the way it rests on the palate and the flavors that arise from the particular glass. I had the Cherry Milk Stout; barley, milk sugar, and Oregon cherries mingle in this full bodied stout making it just the right amount of refreshing and sweet- but not overly sweet. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I also sampled the He'brew She'brew draft IPA, as a huge IPA fan I can say that this one was amazing as well; though the alcohol content was a litle high- 11.0, it was still a delicious brew. We also tried the Wild Berry Cider, which I liked as well. Overall a wonderful drafting experience and if I had a draft pick- this place would be in my number one for the ambiance, the brews and of course the pub decor. For some reason, my original review of The Piglet (Blind Pig Brewery) got merged with The Blind Pig Company down the road. Obviously the same owners, and institutions in Champaign. I guess both where done on 9/18/2012. Anyway... One of my all time favorite breweries. If you like the original Blind Pig, then you will no doubt love this place. It looks the same, and has the same wood work as the original. With an old barn look and lots of dark wood. The wood is taken from a 200 year old barn and antique tables. A relatively small and centrally located bar in front of the taps, the bar back is over 150 years old as well. The area has a couple of tables out front, and a great beer garden out back. Character oozes out of every wood poor here. Really laid back and relaxing. The service is good. The bar tenders know their stuff, and are usually quick. Sometimes it takes a little to get noticed. The house beers are great. Now 5+ is the norm. What has always amazed me about this brewery is the ability to make fantastic and true to style old world beers, and then other times make fantastic "innovative" beers that match the tastes of all the hyped stuff going on. I mean hardly any brewery in the country does session beers..which is below 4% ABV as well as here. Just a couple of old world classics would be...Zwickel Pils (tell me how many breweries to an unfiltered PIls, and one this good to boot), Ordinary Bitter...yes ordinary in every way except probably the best session beer made in the States, maybe the newly remade Uber Weizen...one of the best pale Weizenbock's this side of Vitus. More adventurous you say, well how about barleyines, DIPA's, Brett Saisons, and anything else they come up with. About the only thing I wish they would do would be traditional cask beers. Ordinary Bitter on cask would be even more divine. You can't beat a quality brewpub, and this one is excellent. Very fresh and always enjoyable. It blows away anything in the area, and it is not even close. Destihl is too cookie cutter, with no character at all, and boring, Triptych is just not that good. Really, one of my favorite brewpubs I have been to, regardless of location. I can't recommend this place enough. read more

This might be the best place to grab a beer in Chambana. Great owner, great staff, great location & setting. The owner really cares about his business, staff, and customers. I often find breweries this size make beers that I don't find too drinkable and I usually wouldn't hang around for more than a tasting. At the Piglet, in-house brews have been really good and I frequently find myself ordering exclusively from their in-house selection. Mug night is a great deal - definitely get a mug or seven. The courtyard is the place to be on warmer days. Please please bring back the dart boards! read more

After my 4th drink, in a bad attitude, the bartender told that she can't sell me anything more because I had enough alcohol!!! "If you want another drink, you have to take a walk!!!" I understand if they want to keep a calm place, free of drunk and problematic people, but they have to watch the attitude and the way they talk to the clients!!! I'm an outta-towner. Loved the creaking floors. Loved the ol' European feel, with the American style applied. Loved the musty odor. Definitely loved the Beer. Loved the motto: The Beer Of Champaigne. A direct dichotomy of the champagne of beers. Then the bartender bent my mind informing me that my Bloody Mary had NO Worcestershire sauce in it just moments after I told my wife that I enjoyed her liberal inclusion of it in the drink. My husband and I just walked in and instead of having great service, it was a nightmare. The bartender has ignored us from the moment we walked in, just looking at my husband and I EVERY TIME she walked passed us, MULTIPLE times. After sitting there for approximately 15 minutes, I asked the a woman who was mopping the floor if the bartender was available, as we wanted to order a couple of beers and had been waiting longer than average. The bar was not busy and the bartender was constantly looking at her phone, continuously walking past us and the other patrons were already drinking. This (cleaning) woman, who was unfortunately quite rude, yelled and said, "she'll be right back!" I tried to explain that we had been sitting at a table by the bar without getting served, and she kept walking past us. The woman (who was still cleaning at this point) said, "you need to go up to the bar to order!" This is something that I have NEVER heard of, as my husband and I were customers sitting right in front of the bar, in clear view of the bartender who, as I must reiterate, continuously walked past us without a single acknowledgement. As much as I had anticipated trying some of their brews, their customer service was beyond terrible. I wish I had asked for their names, but my husband just wanted to leave out of frustration. read more

The Pig has a nice relaxed atmosphere and offers some great brews. The bartenders have always been great over the few years I've been coming here. Their own beers are quite tasty and they've always got guest drafts and other items on tap. This rotates regularly so you'll have a new experience often between their seasonals and the guest drafts while still having some of your tried and true regulars available. The beer garden is a great way to spend some time with friends for an afternoon or evening drink (weather permitting). Inside is also a nice place to socialize with friends (and was where I first really had that deep connection with my now-husband). The atmosphere is lively without being packed like sardines with music blaring four times too loudly to hold a conversation or enjoy yourself, which is a welcome change of pace from most bars. The prices are very reasonable and if you expect to return even with modest frequency, joining their mug club is a must. For a small price, you can buy one of their mugs and being it back on mug night for discounted drafts. This pays for itself quickly. For $5 you can purchase a growler and have it filled with your favorite that's brewed on site or bring your own growler in. read more

With their recent expansion, the piglet as I call it, is one of my favorite bars in downtown Champaign. Not only did their Monday specials introduced me to the only beer that I can drink (the stout) but there is now enough room for a large party and outside seating if I really wanted to enjoy the weather. There's only a couple of bartenders but they work really hard to keep the place non sticky and table top clean. I can also avoid all of the rowdy Bros from guidos and the obnoxious dancers in cowboy. The piglet is a safe space for people who just want to drink with their friends and actually hear what people are saying to them from two feet away. I highly suggest this bar on Mondays when they have beer specials but any night is pretty much going to be great. read more

Bartender Jaden was awesome! A colleague and I ordered an old fashioned and she made them perfectly. Upon complementing her mixology skills she admitted having never made one and had to look up a recipe and put her twist on it. I made sure to let her know she knocked it outta the park! It's much larger than it was originally (it was initially a small place only accessible on Neil), but it's a lovely little spot in a quiet, dark area where people don't bother you and you can hear someone talk. Their beer selection isn't quite like their sister bar, The Blind Pig Co., but it's excellent nonetheless. I mainly come here to hang out with friends, and sometimes just to be alone. The bartenders here are really sweet, warm, lovely people, that want to have great conversations with you rather than condescend to you about your beer choice, and the courtesy of their bartenders runs neck and neck with Quality Bar, which is a similar establishment in regards to beer and having a 'hipster' vibe. The Piglet is Blind Pig Co., but without the pretentiousness. read more

So we went here because we heard great reviews. The drinks were fine, but the bartender was really uninterested in her customers. She was not being friendly and didn't respond to our nice jokes/compliments. Then we asked her around 11 what time the bar closed, she said "2am or whenever people clear out"... well at 1:12 am she kicked us out and said they were closing. I find it rude that we spent over $80 there and she never was nice to us and close on us early and made us leave. I prefer better service and a less hostile environment if you ask me. Really disappointed to have rude staff. I love being outgoing and friendly and when that happens it really kills the mood and makes us not want to return. read more
