Tonight I was here for the first time. I am here on business and my colleague recommended it. The two of us spit the stuffed dates, cheese curds and the prosciutto and cheese pizza. It was so good last time that we visited again during our most recent trip to Normal. This time we tried the spicy chicken sandwich. I had it without jalapeños, and my son had it with. What a great menu to choose from! So many yummy options. Our table had a variety of items: pretzel, cheese curds, Mahi tacos, pickle pizza, sandwich and soup, burger with eggs and fried bacon (fried bacon was a miss and odd, but the actual burger was good!). Everything was great. Here's the deal with Destihl and what I like about it: Lots of components to dishes and it works. Each component is well-thought out, very fresh and seasoned perfectly. I have never had a bad meal and recently was in town and had dinner at the original location. I went with the fish and chips and the taste and presentation was excellent. The service is always good and the food was some of the best I have had in Bloomington. They have some limited outdoor seating when the weather allows and a good sized bar. We have now been to the Destihl restaurant twice and we loved both experiences! Probably our favorite meal while in town! We used Tock to make a reservation in advance, just to make sure we had a guaranteed spot. From the moment we walked in, the service staff took good care of us. From being greeted and sat down to the hostess, excellent service from the waitress, and a kind farewell on the way out. And the ambiance of the building is wide-open, chic, modern, and clean. It really feels like a fancy upscale restaurant, but with very reasonable prices! Both times we visited, we started with the shredded Brussel sprout salad. It is so delicious, flavorful, light, and wholesome. We also got flights both times. Flights are made up of four beers. There are always prescribed flights, as well as create your own. My husband likes to get the prescribed flights and I like to get the make your own. Some of our favorites include "Extended Jam," "Key Lime Gose," and so many other of their IPA's. Both times my husband got a pizza. He thoroughly enjoyed the fresh and flavorful ingredients and the heartiness of the pizza overall. The first time I got the ahi tuna salad and it was so delightful! Refreshing and light, while still bursting with flavor and filling, I walked away happy. The second time I got the special penne Ragu with garlic bread and it was the perfect hearty meal for a cold day. Destihl has won our hearts and tastebuds. We followed the recommendation of a nearby dealership and are so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, the space felt inviting - flooded with light, warm atmosphere, and a beautiful, fully stocked bar . As Germans, we had to try the Schnitzel and Spätzle. The twist of mixing raw red cabbage directly with the Spätzle (instead of serving it on the side) surprised us, but it was ABSOLUTLY delicious. On our first visit there was a little confusion on how to order food. I may not have this 100% correct, as we only did it one way but it appears you can put in your orders either at the counter or at the table using a QR code.
