Hubby got the fish and chips, which were the best I've had anywhere - huge fresh melt-in-your-mouth chunks of creamy white fish lightly battered in tempura, and crispy plump chips (fries). Some of the dishes featured an unexpected touch of Asian spice that really brought out the flavors of the fresh ingredients. We sat in what seemed to be the family area, and we could relax and not worry about disturbing the adults in the front area of the pub, and the kids were out of range of the drinking area with pool tables. When they got bored, the kids went to the garden in back and ran around with other kids. Great kids' menu too. The combination of excellent food, friendly service, welcoming atmosphere, and something-for-everyone make Weaver's a sure shot for families passing through or living in Newmarket-on-Fergus.

I got a pint of Guinness and the roast of the day. The roast was absolutely excellent. I really enjoyed the gravy over the top and the stuffing underneath. The meat was cooked very well. The service was great and made me feel at home on the other side of the pond. I really enjoy when the server walks you through the menu after you ask questions to help you arrive at the right entree, which is exactly what happened. I will be visiting again before I go home and definitely when I come back to the fine town of Kanturk.

Anyway, we sat down and ordered 2 appetizers, 4 mains, 3 desserts and 2 coffees all for the whopping price of 73€, I nearly fell off my bar stool. I could eat that brown bread all day but resisted since I had a fillet of fish on the way. My fish was cooked perfectly, not over battered and super moist. Almost everyone at the table ordered the fish which was a crowd pleaser. The table shared sides of veg, potatoes and chips which were all delicious, I'd say my favorite was the broccoli. Despite being smothered in creamy maybe cheesiness, I can still say I ate my greens for the day, right? Whatever they put on it, I could eat those just on its own....ok with a side of that brown bread. I would definitely come back. It's a nice sprawly pub, roomy, pleasant, really inviting atmosphere. Having ascertained there was food on, we walked through the busy front, bar to a more open plan area beyond that led out onto beer garden. We parked ourselves In front of a glass case on the wall containing an old rifle, and other items, and straight away a friendly lady came over & took our order for food & drinks. The items in the case turned out to be memorabilia from the Irish war of independence. The effects of one Michael Geary a local commander, including his so called 'Black & Tan Medal', awarded to IRA members who participated in the Irish War of Independence. As well as his Sinn Féin membership certificate. After a very reasonable 10-15mins the food arrived, it was all very well organized. Being a vegitarian I'm usually quIte cynical about choice on offer, but this was great. I was well pleased with the lovely asparagus risotto. Although smallish, it has two fireplaces, a few mini sofas, several plush easy chairs, a tall bistro table and a communal dining table for weary radio/audio makers to settle into, enjoy a drink or four and relax. I had their signature hot tea & whisky toddy with lemon, cloves and a bit of sugar. I also had a few Bushmills as one does. They have a full espresso service as well for a quick daytime pick-me-up but honestly, as I believe day-drinking was invented in Ireland, a coffee functions more like a gateway drug here with a pint or something quick to follow. It should be known that the prices are a bit more than other spots on main street but the slight uptick is worth it for the vast collection of curiosities and knick knacks that line the shelves and the general inimitable vibe--it's like a mini museum with drinks! The owners/bartenders/hosts are very kind and cheerful. I had done a bit of shopping earlier at the butcher's for a dinner party the following day and they refrigerated my purchases until I was ready to leave.
