    Blues on a Sunday!
    Abrianna R.

The Blues Kitchen definitely exceeded our expectations- especially on a dead Sunday night in London! I came here at the beginning of my trip in Europe at the advice of the pocket travel book we had and I'm so glad we made the trek across the city to get here! When we walked it, we were shocked at how CROWDED the enormous room was, it seemed like everyone had the same idea we did. After squeezing our way to a spot at the bar, we were able to get our drink orders in and listen to the wonderful live band that was entertaining the crowd - birthday parties and friends galore! The bartenders were so friendly and made us feel right at home there - the highlight of our experience at the Blues Kitchen (other than the amazing jazz band of course). The only thing was there just wasn't anywhere for us to sit or stand when we got our drinks. Everywhere we stood we were asked by servers to move, or given dirty looks for getting in the bubbles of other people. Hello! We are trying to relax and enjoy the music too - not like we WANT to be in everyone's way either :( Overall a learning experience - next time if we want a spot at the bar or a table come earlier I suppose!

This is a bar, music venue and a Cajun BBQ house all in one. I am giving it five stars for excellent service, great ambience and good food. The interior is quite lovely with dim lights and an old world look. The service is casual and modern. The menu is a meat eaters paradise and they do have options for vegetarians and vegans. We had the sharing plate of starters and it was huge. The wings were nice but not spicy enough for me, but the sauce that came with it was great and spicy. The onion rings, fries and other bites were also nice. My main of brisket was huge and after a huge starter I really struggled to finish it. The meat was tender and tasty. The food overall lacked a bit of seasoning for me but nothing a bit of salt can't fix :-) Our waiter was fantastic and very engaging. He was happy to recommend options and was very friendly and funny. We had some nice cocktails here and ended up staying till they threw us out at closing time :-) Nice live music was playing on stage but it was not too loud and you could still have a conversation. All in all a great experience that I would be happy to repeat again.

Burger if the month (April 2016): the Holy Cheezus with two grilled cheese sandwiches as the bun!!!

Great vibe, tasty drinks, and authentic southern cooking have you leaving happy! I had to make a trip after seeing their burger of the month on their Facebook page: a beef patty with caramelized onions, bacon, and béchamel, all sandwiched between two friggin grilled cheese sandwiches!!! Holy Cheezus! How could I say no? The burger was a 5 out of 5, though not because of the grilled cheese bun. The quality came from the beef, bacon, and onion combo. Top ingredients all around. The grilled cheese was an afterthought. It felt a bit like a stuffed-crust pizza where the cheese was simply relocated to inside the bun instead of on the meat. It still worked its magic there, but really I'm excited for all of their burgers now since they'll all share that same amazing beef patty! And I'll dream of those onions for weeks... The service was fine, some bartenders friendlier than others. The place was super popular on a Sunday night and would've had to wait 2.5 hours until a table opened up (8:30), so had a drink at the bar and waited for a barstool to open up to order food. Great ambiance and a live gospel choir Sunday nights. Can't wait to try their Monday rib special.

Tangy chicken wings with strong lemony flavor with a pinch of heat.

I have been to this place when it was known as bar musical. Not very sure about the name change is take over our whatever. I didn't ask about it or search about it. Not much has changed in terms of interiors. As you enter you are the square bar with the walks lined up with drinks. Around the bar counter is were you have a lot of space to sit. Pick your own table, grab a drink and chat as long as you like. Cozy environment. Lovely music. There is a stage in the right hand side corner of the restaurant. Not sure when live music stars. The last time I was there I left too early to see any live performances. While sitting there sipping my drink I was served some hot spicy chicken wings with a distinct lemony flavor and a hint of heat. Left my lips burning. But good kind of burning. It almost felt like, the bourbon I was having, had just found its true love. I'll definitely go there again. Not too far away from where I work. Will keep you posted with updates. Would love to see some live music.

Love love love this place! After arranging to meet a friend for brunch at the breakfast club and finding it was packed, we were left looking for a back up plan! We stumbled upon this place while walking around shoreditch and what a great find! Great food, friendly, efficient service and a man playing the piano whole we are. The brunch menu has plenty of choices, all southern inspired - chicken and waffles, pig and biscuits, crab benedict.. Everything sounds great, after much deliberations, I went for the healthy breakfast, avocado, halloumi, poached egg - basically all my breakfast favourites together. Total no brainer and absolutely delicious! My friend opted for the pig and biscuits and couldn't stop raving about how good it was! Price wise, when the bill came they had made a few add ons, a charity donation and a service charge, but it still came in at the not too shabby price of 20 pounds for the two of us! Win win! I hear this place is good for a cocktail and for dancing to blues late into the night, so I'm keen to come back on a Friday night to dance the night away!

This was my first visit to the Blues Kitchen in Shoreditch having previously checked out the Camden branch and I have to say it's a marked improvement. The venue looks like a lot more care has been put into the decor and it is very East London with tiles and exposed brick. There is a great selection of beers including bottles of Innis & Gunn and if they could expand the range to cover the rum aged version I'll become a regular! The food menu is fairly standard although they do sometimes run specials which are well worth keeping an eye out for. There's currently a burger that looks incredible. During the week there's various music themes going on. I was there on a Tuesday for what sounded like jazz but I'm definitely heading back on a Sunday to check out the gospel night. Should be great fun. Let me know if you want to join me!

Good, a bit sweet. Messy to eat. 3/5 Truffle fries - good but average 4/5 Polenta - very tasty, a must. 3/5 Duck and waffle - I expected this to be bigger but it was good. I normally prefer chicken but the duck wasn't bad. All the food was decent and the staff were all nice. It's unfortunate that the walk to the restaurant passes by the smelly toilets. Also there was only one lift working that day so it took a little time to get up/down.

I've been looking forward to visiting Duck & Waffle for quite some time. The views are incredible,…read morethe space itself is striking, and on paper it promises that perfect London mix of skyline, late-night energy, and elevated comfort food. Unfortunately, our experience was soured before it even had a chance to begin. My girlfriend and I walked in excited, completely amicable, simply hoping to head upstairs for a bite and drinks. We were greeted by the doorman with an immediate, dismissive "Are you good?" -- not in a welcoming or helpful tone, but in a way that felt skeptical and unnecessarily confrontational. There was no warmth, no "welcome in," no attempt at hospitality. It immediately set an uncomfortable tone. He then proceeded to call upstairs as though he were doing us some sort of favor just by allowing us to go up. The entire interaction felt transactional and judgmental rather than gracious. First impressions matter, especially at a place that positions itself as a premium dining destination. Hospitality begins at the door, not at the table. When we finally made it upstairs, the room was filled with visibly drunk, rowdy groups -- which only made the earlier attitude feel even more misplaced. If that environment is acceptable (and profitable), then two polite guests looking for drinks and food shouldn't be met with suspicion at the entrance. By that point, the damage was done. The initial interaction had already rubbed us the wrong way, and the energy upstairs didn't help. We ultimately decided to leave before even sitting at our table. That's how strongly the first impression impacted us. It's difficult to justify staying somewhere when you don't feel genuinely welcomed from the outset. Duck & Waffle has the potential to be memorable for all the right reasons. But someone representing the brand at the very front needs to understand that hospitality isn't optional -- it's foundational. A simple, respectful welcome would have changed everything. I hope management takes this seriously, because no guest should feel judged or dismissed before they even step inside.

WOW, this place is delicious!…read more Our family stopped in London for the last part of our cruise. After touring St. Paul's Cathedral, we were pretty hungry. We found The Fat Bear via Yelp!, and decided to give it a try. There were so many things on the menu that looked really good, but I had been craving chicken and waffles. The waffles were crisp on the outside, and fluffy on the inside -- the chicken, cooked perfectly, too. The syrup they serve it with is incredible. I wanted something with at least one good veggie option, they wanted something with meat, and it had to be somewhere in-between Camden and Canary Wharf, not too pricey, and ideally close to the city because otherwise our Italian friend probably wouldn't make it. And lo and behold.... THE FAT BEAR!!! It was all we wanted and more! This place is sort of tucked away and up some stairs above a pub. It's really just a room and a half, which makes it super cozy and they have a pretty awesome looking bar. It's got warm lighting which makes the atmosphere really nice. Their cocktails were delightful and the service was excellent. I will make a very strange observation that someone working there had a very drunk friend who just sort of made herself at home. Then more joined and it turned into me watching this table of really really drunk people trying to order food. Two of them ended up just falling asleep. It was super strange. Anyway, me being distracted aside, I really loved the cocktail I ordered- Sloe Boat To China, and everyone else seemed happy with theirs. I was dying to try the pimiento cheese starter and the fried pickles. The cheese was particularly sharp and delicious. The pickles were good, but quite skinny (I mean come on, you're in an American restaurant I was expecting some serious pickles). The vegan gumbo was super spicy and delicious. I was impressed and enjoyed it. My husband dropped the ball and ordered the regular jambalaya (with sausage) rather than the seafood one which broke my heart a little bit, because I really wanted to try it. You know, I guess that means we'll just have to come back. Oh also another bonus, this place has brisket which is really hard to find. I can't say how it tastes but my friend said he defo approves (am I becoming more British with these words, or just more annoying?) Anyway, to finish it off I had the oreo cheesecake which the bomb. I love oreos. And it tasted like oreo. So all was right with the world. A wonderful place to come if you have people who want to try American food, or if you have out of town Americans who are too scared to try other food, or if you have hungry friends that want to try cajun food, or if you just want to try some really yummy food.

Fortunately this spot was super close to my hotel. Despite the rainy gloom, this pub was busy and lively! The front end of the pub was mainly for ordering at the bar, but the back end was for proper sit down dining. I got myself a table in the back and the waitress was super nice in giving recommendations for food and drink. I got myself a hard cider on tap (£7 = ~$9 USD), Ocean's fish and chips (£23.50 = ~$31 USD), and sticky toffee pudding (£8.50 = ~$11 USD). The cider came out first and I instantly fell in love with it. Had a nice bubbly fizz to it, but it was incredibly light and refreshing! I haven't had a cider like that in the States, so I was cherishing every drop I had. The Ocean's fish & chips came out next and it was A Lot of food. The fried fish was amazing, as the batter wasn't excessive but still had a substantial crisp to every bite. The fish weren't fishy and tasted quite fresh. The fries were just standard and the mushy peas weren't half bad. Really the fish was the star of the show. I wish I held off before ordering sticky toffee pudding because the fish & chips filled me up. But I'm a dessert (or pudding in the UK) sucker, and it helped round off the meal. Overall very fresh and the ice cream complemented the pudding very well. Good amount of toffee with every bite! Price point mostly felt on par with dining at a standard US restaurant in the Bay Area (fish and chips seemed pricier than what most US restaurants would charge, but it was A Lot), but I left feeling absolutely stuffed but incredibly satisfied.
